With huge thanks to @benfeldmanlove21-blog , who first spotted the differences between the images, and to @hopelostinmemories for helping with the search, I spent far too much time trying to understand the photo MW posted last night.
The conclusion seems fairly clear. The question of why is another matter, and thatās where Iāll need your help.
Let me walk you through what I did.
First, @benfeldmanlove21-blog pointed out the differences between the images, and there are simply too many of them to dismiss as a resolution issue. I stopped counting after five.
So we know that the version P posted appears to have undergone fairly extensive AI retouching. The differences are visible, as are the unnaturally smooth skin and hair.
My first thought was that P had taken the circular profile picture posted here and used an AI prompt to fill in the missing parts, turning it into a complete square image.
So I tried doing exactly that using three of the leading AI platforms. Iām attaching one of the results.
The circular image doesnāt give the AI enough information about the man. With most of his face cut off, it has no way of knowing that the person is supposed to be Sam Heughan, so it simply invents someone.
Then I tried again, this time specifically telling it that the man was Sam Heughan. This time it did generate him. Iām including more examples here.
(Not posting Gemini because it just created something completely different.)
So what did that show me?
Even when the AI knows who the man is supposed to be, it still doesnāt recreate him as perfectly as he appears in the image P posted. The angle and features are always slightly different and things are missing or added.
The most obvious conclusion is that Purv received the full image rather than generating the missing section herself. But the version she received had already been heavily retouched using AI.
Who would have access to the complete original photo? One guess.
Why retouch this particular image when she herself had already uploaded a different version? Excellent question.
But at the very least, this strongly suggests that AI is indeed being used by her, as Iāve suspected and mentioned here several times before.
As for whether the original image itself is real?
At this point, with her, who knows?
