#when you’re highkey not okay but trying to be lowkey about it
Right now I feel absolutely nothing, and I’m not sure what scares me more. The feeling of emptiness or how incredibly intoxicating it is.

At the ballet → Phoebe & Michael
daltonphoebe:
Most of women would happily approve of the expensive bottle of wine appearing in front of them, knowing that the men they had desired was ready to spend some money on them, or in other words to invest into a maybe more meaningful or simply just meaningful relationship with them. But Phoebe was not like most women.“What kind of a restaurant is this if they don’t have a scotch?” The blonde sighed disapprovingly before she continued. “But I don’t mind wine, not even a musigny as long as I’ll have my dose of scotch by the end of the night.” Maybe some would say she was predictable or boring, but Phoebe liked what she liked just like she knew what she wanted. And she wanted Michael Colomba more than anyhing, for quite some time. “What took you so long?” Phoebe asked while accepting the glass of wine from him. “Why did you have to wait so long to ask me out, Michael?” He had crawled into under her skin. Througout all of their mutual annoyance, maybe even hate or simply pure dislike for each other, all the other people in their lives, they were here now, sitting in a French restaurant, very much being on their way to become something serious, very serious.
Michael gave the go-ahead for the waiter to open the bottle. “Interesting enough. Scotch does not go with everything. The wine compliments the flavor in french cuisine and vice versa.” Highly amused at this turn, Michael had this perplexed look on his face. But as that moment came and left Phoebe managed to hit him with another even more compelling question. To which he was prepared, “I thought it was your job to know how men like me work, or at least be damn good at predicting.” He grinned, looking over his glass. “I was under the impression it wasn’t that long? Maybe I wanted to see who you really were. Aside from a google search. I know how infatuation works, it dwindles faster than the high I get from making millions off a great business contract. I’m not interested in that.” Perhaps in his younger years when running with the Genovese when he didn’t have a care in the world, nevertheless his sincerity was startling to him. “Good to know you were waiting for me to ask you out,” As if his ego couldn’t get any bigger. “I would have never guessed you liked me?” Thinking of all the times they were so nice to one another, who could have guessed.

It was all she wanted to hear from him, but the last part of his response made her smile. “Likewise, but then it is settled. We have a deal, Mr. Colomba.” Phoebe jokingly used his last name, even adding that mister title in front of his name just too emphasize the joke more. “I won’t, but he’s taking it to a whole new level. Unlike of his father, he can’t be seen anywhere. Anyway, I’ll keep that in on my mind, to not take it personally.” She had more questions about Andrew, but that she’d leave for some other time. Tonight wasn’t the place or the time for that. “No, I wasn’t, but I wouldn’t mind it actually.” Phoebe said remembering how she once claimed to him that she loved everything except of Italian. It didn’t matter what was it: food, drinks, culture or men. But those were lies obviously, said only to throw Michael out of the game. “Cliche and predictable are definitely not two words I associate with you. I don’t think anyone in this town would? I’d go with mysterious and charming, now.” Once they were seated, Phoebe smiled at Michael before the waiter even had time to come back to him to ask what they’d be drinking. “I’m having a really good time, Michael.” Never had she thought she’d be saying that to him.
No one had used the word mysterious to describe him. Michael was for the dramatics, and always but always the person to make a lasting impression. Just the things he took pride in. “Charming? Now? Because I am always charming, if not always when in your presence Phoebe?” He never once looked up to catch her eyes, for there were far too many words Phoebe could have used to describe him. But he ran with it and he couldn’t help himself when the moment presented itself.
Nodding along, he had that simple smirk on his face. The one that was the most natural when he wasn’t putting on his “act.” It was a rarity but every once in a while it appeared. “Ah, the night is still young.” Knowing him he could have a few more tricks up his sleeves, but it was good to hear. And in the same breath he answered the now present waiter by requesting a bottle of his favorite Musigny wine. As long at it was vintage and red, all he cared for with french cuisine. “Since I doubt they carry your beloved scotch, will a vintage bottle of musigny wine do?” One of the things he wanted to learn was her taste in the finer, most exquisite things.
We’ll lose
This on the other hand, is Agent Romanoff’s assessment of you. Read it.
Michael after a few tall glasses of Romanée-Conti, and the ball in full swing. The youngest possibly the most capable, brilliant, maybe ingenious - but never was Michael the one to fill his own head with smoke. These were just facts placed upon facts. Since the band the Lucchase hired decided to play a more traditional set, taking everyone back to Italy - probably planned by the host herself, Michael was not complaining. It made everyone at least everyone of Italian descent became comfortable among their enemies.
Maybe Vito’s wife wasn’t so--. Michael’s half smile appeared as he grabbed the gentleman’s face in front of him. Unlike him since he VALUED personal space as most should, he quoted the familiar words of Michael Corleone from the godfather II. “I know it was you, Fredo! You broke my heart! You broke my heart!” His snort turned into a roar of laughter, he almost spilled his now new favorite wine. It was genuine, his accent ever thick as if he never left Italy.
Unforgettable - Nat King Cole
“Maybe if I knew what I wanted to do it could, but no.”
Cara nodded her head, “I can understand, kind of.” She laughed, “They can dig all they want, they’ll find some pretty invigorating stuff.” She hoped he knew that she meant it sarcastically, and didn’t actually believe her. “This is a sophisticated party, to me anyway. I get the feeling some others take it another way?” She asked, wanting to know Michael’s view on it.
“My God you stick out like a sore thumb.” He was joking, feeling she had to have some sort of sense of humour since she was hanging around these people. Also, Michael had never been around someone with high morals.
“What’s left to explain? Everyone in this room knows a great deal about the other.” All except of her, but Michael did not know what Jackson had in store for her, perhaps he knew something they meaning Michael didn’t. “Like what? Some parking tickets? Did you get caught jaywalking? I know a guy that help with that…” Laughing at himself once more. “You’d be correct, you’re better left in the dark, don’t want to be accessory to any crimes that may be committed tonight.” Partially facetious, somewhat deliberate.
“Ah well, how lovely, at least some of us are enjoying ourselves this evening. –The night’s still young, I’m sure the bloodshed and yelling are sure to come. Why, out and about. Aren’t we always Mr. Colomba? It’s only a matter of time till you find out, I’m sure.”
“Do give me a heads up will you, so I know when to make my exit?” He teased, although there was merit in his tone. “Me? The last time I found out something about your family was when Jackson was almost killed by that Lucchase girl.” He stirred around the champagne in his glass. “Please, I can’t handle anymore embarrassments like that? and I’m not even in the family”
Phoebe could have said a lot on her need for security to him, but Michael had defeated her almost instantly. She wasn’t surprised that he cared so much about her, but it was Michael and to hear him saying something like that to her could occasionally shake her up a bit. “I’ll be working against the mobs only to be protected by the same people? But fine, whatever you think I need, I’ll go with it. But if some of them ends up messing up my work, you can say goodbye to them, just so you know.” She knew that it wouldn’t be so easy to find that balance between their private life together and their work like they were saying, but it wasn’t anything Phoebe couldn’t get through. “We could be where? We’ll go there next month, how about that?” If she wouldn’t have too much work that was. Listening to him, her mind was progressing Vito’s alleged death. Knowing that Michael had him, she had to go with his wish, but even Phoebe wanted more than that even though to everyone else such a story would be more than they wanted. She spoke in a real low voice. “You’re still going with that? With his death? Vito intrigues me so I’ll do that for both of us, but the other one….” She wanted to ask was he really sure that he wanted to pull Joseph into all of that, but she knew that just him saying it was enough to come up with a conclusion. “I know how it goes and how they work. I couldn’t get through any of them last year, not even get a name, but with your help in all of this…. Carter will forbid to all his people to have a talk with me after that, but it is a great story, darling. It could even shake up his position to a matter that it would be questionable if he could keep his job in police forces, anywhere in the state. The idea I really like.” And no one could do it better than her, she knew that. After a spin, she returned a smile to him and rested her hand on the back of his neck. “Oh, come on, you know I’ll do it. Both.” Phoebe pulled him closer to her and kissed him, smiling against his lips after. “What you do to me….”
Michael was brilliant, genius mastermind. The only words that were accurate enough to describe a man like him. And on some level he was understanding, so he heard her. “It doesn’t have to be my guys watching over you. We can get actual officers of the law. I mean this is New York, some of them take their jobs seriously enough, they wouldn’t turn down the opportunity to protect Phoebe Dalton who in some ways helps them bring down the bad guys.” Sounding so understanding, he felt he deserved an award. “We won’t drop my name when hiring them, but if they screw up in anyway ….” Without question. What’s a few more dead cops, he thought. It meant nothing to him. “Just so I know. I’m more reveling in the fact that you didn’t fight me on this. It’s kind of nice.” It just wouldn’t last long, a slight look of disappointment when she didn’t agree on them ditching this place. “On a island somewhere, if I don’t have to be here handling work, trust me I’m not.” May was of course terrible for him, but they’d have to figure it out later. “I am, some very powerful people seem to think they have control over me from a deal I made a year ago.” They should have known better than that, Michael was always in business for himself. “And that other story is extra. The five families have run New York for a long time, if one should disappear off the map, that’s a good story correct?” He saw her dilemma, which was why this was her choice to take on or ignore, however something that big would she pass up? “That’s one way Carter could handle it. He’s smarter than that I think? --Not every cop is on Carter’s side. Just say the word and you can get you a lengthy list of the people that are currently playing for both teams, a police salary is embarrassing enough I would look for other jobs too.” And it was just like her to take on more work. “Both?” Michael frowned, speaking into that kiss. “Wasn’t Hvar on the table just a minute ago, you’ll be tied up in more work now. --And you’re wrong.” Disliking how that other kiss ended so abruptly, he kissed her again. “It’s the other way around.”
