Hey there, thought I might start this Tumblr with a small text about myself.
I’m Michael Fuchs. To clear things up right ahead, Fuchs is the German word for Fox. I know, it can get a bit confusing for English speaking folks ;), so, no it’s not a dirty pun, it’s just my fuchin name. In the interwebs I’m often known under my pseudo Juicefoozle, which i still use on many platforms.
I’m a dad, and I have a dog, which is a wild little beast. I’m born in the south of Germany, and am currently living in Berlin.
I’m also a Graphic Designer, or better UX Designer as most of my contractors prefer to title me these days. When i learned my profession it was still Graphic Designer, so you guessed right, i’m in my thirties already. Illustration and character design were always a passion of me, but never THE thing i earned my bread and butter with.
My Career started as a flash designer, with a focus on design and animation, but with some mid level as2 and later as3 coding skills. When flash for web died, most of my jobs split up in either after effects animation or ui design.
After a couple of years working in advertising, and reaching the art director title i decided to go self employed. Being a freelancer got me enough freedom to get back and more into illustrating again, and to widen my skill set by teaching myself new things and softwares.
As almost everyone who is loving to create creatures and characters the most exciting thing is when your creatures come to live with animation. The only thing that tops that for me, is when you go a step further than animation, and thats the possibility of interacting with them, so I ended up tinkering around with the Unity game engine. I also started to dig a bit deeper into C# coding, and would say, i have a good hobbyist foundation of it.
So, i know, the title of this tumblr claims that i am a gamedev, but i’m more a tinkerer, or how Thomas Noppers once helped me to define it: a game brewer. But as it isn’t a common known term yet, i decided to exaggerate a little bit, and call myself a gamedev, i hope all the real devs will forgive me.
Why this tumblr?
Because i want a place where i can store and share codesnippets, news, and stuff that simply extends twitter’s character limit.
If you’re curious about what i’ve done so far, here are some links to portfolio pages and social networks i am using:
