@darcellexvshowplace passed away this past week. It is such a blow to the Portland community but specifically the LGBTQ+ community. Darcelle was not only the worlds oldest performing drag queen but also did so much for the community. I had met Darcelle a couple of times, outside the shows, in a community capacity. Darcelle cared about the community and gave back financially as well as personally. Our country is all worried about whether a drag queen can be around kids and families. They never talk about what they bring to the community at large or the impact they could have. Next month will be my 30 year HS reunion. They wanted us to share our school picture vs our current picture. It is funny to even think about the 18 year old in this picture. I have so many things I wish I could tell him. I want you to know you will be ok. You will go through some dark stuff but will see some beautiful things. You will meet and fall in love with the man of your dreams and build a wonderful life that you both create and work for. You will find healing and create boundaries and live the second half of life better than the first. You will lose your hair and gain some weight. 3 years ago @23andme brought a new family into my life. My hesitation was obvious at the start. This past week I had the chance to spend time with my pops, sister, brother-in-law and nephew. It was full of laughter, a few tears, sincerity, openness, scary movies; food and adventures. We got to visit and old mine, hike in the hills, see a snack stand that was honored based. The connections were amazing and so glad to have additional family.
