Dominick Cruz Injured, Vacates Belt; Renan Barão to Defend Against Urijah Faber at UFC 169
Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) women's bantamweight title contender Miesha Tate has agreed to help Cristiane "Cyborg" Justino train for her next bout. Could this be the beginning of a beautiful friendship?
Tatsuya Kawajiri wants Jose Aldo fight after UFC Fight Night 34 win
It took 14 years and and 41 professional fights but Tatsuya Kawajiri finally made it to the Ultimate Fighting Championship's (UFC) famed Octagon when he took on Sean Soriano in the co-main event of UFC Fight Night 34: "Saffiedine vs. Lim" yesterday (Sat., Jan. 4, 2014) at the Marina Bay Sands in Marina Bay, Singapore.
He won by submission 50 seconds into the second round.
It was an impressive performance from "Crusher", who has now won five consecutive fights since dropping down to the 145-pounds to compete in the featherweight division. With the considerable lack of depth within the weight class, why not call out the champion of said division, Jose Aldo?
From the post-fight press conference:
"I'm looking at this fight as just the beginning. I'm looking to go into the main land of America, and fighting in bigger pay-per-view shows. ... If it's possible I'd love to fight the champion Jose Aldo immediately, but I'm sure there's orders I have to follow. So I want to fight some top-ten fighters."
Fortune favors the bold but Kawajiri isn't currently ranked in the UFC and even after his victory over Soriano is accounted for, it's unlikely he'll end up anywhere in the top 10.
There may not be many worthy challengers to Aldo's throne at this moment but that doesn't mean there aren't fighters who are legitimate threats to become that within a fight or two. Those are the combatants Kawajiri will have to worry about first.

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Middleweight Champion Chris Weidman opened up as the early betting favorite over Vitor Belfort. The two middleweights are expected to fight mid-2014 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Cruz and Faber Named Coaches for TUF 15
The inaugural season of The Ultimate Fighter LIVE on FX will debut on March 9 and the coaches have now been named.
UFC bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz and top contender Urijah Faber will square off first as coaches during this new season of the reality show, and then meet with the UFC’s 135-pound title on the line when the show concludes.
Cruz and Faber have been the leading candidates to coach the show since Faber’s victory over Brian Bowles in November at UFC 139.
Following the fight, Faber mentioned that he would love the chance to coach opposite his long time rival, and now he gets his wish.
“I can’t wait to be the next coach on The Ultimate Fighter. I am looking forward to mentoring a bunch of hungry and talented fighters. The new cast needs to be ready to work hard and learn,” said Faber onUFC.com.
Chael Sonnen vs. Mark Munoz Set UFC on Fox 2
UFC on Fox 2 has its co-main event and it will determine the next challenger to Anderson Silva’s middleweight title.
Former title contender Chael Sonnen will meet top ten ranked middleweight Mark Munoz in the co-main event of UFC on Fox 2 set for Jan. 28 in Chicago.
UFC officials confirmed the bout for the co-headliner, alongside Rashad Evans vs. Phil Davis, on Saturday.
Chael Sonnen was gunning for a rematch with Anderson Silva after their hard fought battle in 2010. Sonnen controlled the fight and was up on the scorecards going into the fifth and final round, but Silva was able to come back and end the fight with a Hail Mary triangle choke to retain his title.
Ever since then, Sonnen has been seeking a second shot at Silva, but with the champion on injured reserve until deep into 2012, he’ll face another tough challenge instead.
