Bride + Best Man = Divorce
I got into a bit of trouble in life. Not going to lie. I didn’t really get in trouble with the law…… it was just in general really. Quite frankly, I hated the person I was. I was a bully, and even worse, a racist. I can be grateful to the fact that as I got older I was able to learn more from my mistakes.
I used to hurt people because people used to hurt me physically and mentally. Fighting back and being a horrible bastard was the only coping mechanism I had pre-built into me back then. Nowadays I’m nothing like I was, but I did have to learn the hard way, and so the story goes…..
I grew up fast and decided to move out to Kent when I was 18. It wasn’t easy being in a new environment but it allowed me to come into my own and be my own person. I met a girl named Jamie and we fell for each other instantly. Cut all the soppy stuff and fast forward – we ended up engaged. At the age of 24 I was married. Jamie was 22 so everything seemed perfect at the time. It was a massive wedding – like a fairytale. I imagined that was going to be me set for life, so of course I went big. Go hard or go home, and I went hard, and ended up falling hard too.
Naturally, I made my best friend my best man. Paul had been my best pal since the age of 4. There was no contest as to who would be my best man. He was great on the day too. It actually felt like the best day of my life – everything was fantastic and everybody seemed happy, at least that was how it appeared.
On our honey moon in Thailand Jamie and I went for dinner that evening at some swanky restaurant. For some reason Jamie had looked serious all day. I asked her what the problem was and she decided to unload. She told me that her and Paul had been sleeping together for the last 2 years. I thought it was some kind of sick joke. My girlfriend and best friend had been doing the dirty behind my back all this time. I was livid. She told me she was sorry and begged me for forgiveness to which I refused. I wasn’t having none of it. In fact I flew back to the UK the next day and moved out of our apartment.
That was that. It hurt worse than any beating I had ever experienced before. But I’m headstrong. There was no going back. No hate. No revenge. Nothing. Since then I’ve heard Paul and Jamie have children and are happy living happily ever after. Good luck to them and good riddance.
I’ve moved on and I’m a better man for it trust me….
