to-the-edge:
Heâs been here a couple of months, now, and though the Jacuzziâs in the client rooms take a strong second to being one of his favourite pleasures about the Haus, his first would have to be the outdoor pool at night. Heated, and lit with calming blue and purple lights, he likes to sit on the edge of it in the evenings, when people have retired to their rooms and the sounds of the community are reduced to that peaceful hush of nightfall. With little more than the subtle thumping base of the nightclub on the other side of the resort, and maybe some muffled voices from balconies above, Chase could hear the crickets, and the sigh of the breeze through the trees.Â
Chase grew up in a city. Urban born and bred, he wasnât used to the utter silence of being away from trafficâfrom screaming drunks and crazies roaming the backs of bars looking for cigarette stubs. He wasnât used to the peaceful hug of nature, and though there were a lot of things he truly missed about Londonâeven Leeds, actuallyâthere were some blessings he was grateful for, moving here. Sometimes he felt like he was worlds away from any trouble, protected in this little oasis. Sure, staff didnât have it as good as the Clients, in terms of luxuries, but with what was at Chaseâs back and where he came fromâthis was the best heâd ever had it, easily. Plus, they were treated well and paid handsomely. One day he could afford to travel, to see the world. To live, maybe. That was something heâd never even bothered dreaming about, before coming here.Â
The scuffing of footsteps made him look up in surprise, and he was suddenly glad he hadnât lit up that smoke heâd been hankering for, because they werenât really supposed to smoke in places clients might be trying to enjoy, without specific permission. Staff were expected never to inconvenience clients in anyway.Â
âOhâbarely heard ya come up,â he said with an easy smile, eyes trying to decipher the face int he dim light.Â
Michael slipped outside before pulling his shirt back over his head. Some client had grabbed him for a quickie in the back of the bar and pushed him off after the guy was done. Rude. He blew out a breath feeling hard and frustrated. the guy didn't say thank you. Oh well. He would just have to walk it off or go cruising for someone else to finish himself off. He strolled along heading toward the pool, pulling a pack of smoke out of his pocket, He hadnât had on in months, but he felt like he could use one now as he lit up drawing the smoking into his lungs.Â
He took a few more drags letting the night air wash over him. At least it was nice out that night, mild without a cloud in the sky. he could see all the stars where he stood. They dimmed thought as he moved closer to the pool area. the light surrounding it blurring the stars from his vision. They were replaced by something else that caught his attention.Â
He moved over to where someone sat at the edge of the water. He started to say something when the other turned speaking first. Michael smiled take another pull of his cigarette. âSorry. I wasnât trying to sneak up on ya.â He plopped down next the guy, grinning, his smoke hanging off his lower lip. âNice night huh?â
