ludumdare experience

the last weekend i partecipated to the ludum dare 48h competition.

It was one of the most beautiful thing i've ever done.

I finished my game only one hour before the deadline, and it still had some bugs unresolved; anyway the game is still playable and fully enjoyable.

UniBomberman on the road

hi! i'm making a simple bomberman game to play in-LAN at the university with the entire class... i spent the last week working on it, and now i that i finished the "game part", i'll start working on the LAN connectivity.

i hope i'll manage to post some screenshot, and, of course, the entire source code when finished!

This video shows the water engine previously seen applied into a platform tile game i made time ago.

The tile map is generated randomly with the perlin noise algorithm.

"Lakes" are placed on the map whenever heights are below a predefined level, and the water surface width is accordingly set. Everything is generated randomly.

This is a really nice goal for the water project; CPU does not suffer the real-time simulation at all (it takes ~2% on my intel core duo E6550 2.3 GHz); and the surface can be easly modified by extern objects (i'm working on it). The biggest problem (at the moment) is that water itself isn't made by particles, so that it can't flow through a hole.... if you break a wall under the surface, nothing will happen. That mean it can't be applied to destructible tile games. Well... I'm gonna search something to emulate water flowing.

I've made some nice progresses with the water simulator... it's quite similar to the real water, but i'm not satisfied at all... I've hardcoded some parts, and i want it to be fully personalizable through the use of some constant; like density or viscosity, so that it can be possible to create different substances like oil, honey or lava.

Well... i got exams in january, so do not expect too much :P

At the moment i'm working on 2D interactive water rendering to be applied in a game. Here i'm sharing the video of my first ~45min work... it clearly doesn't work properly, but i found it quite funny anyway :P

Well... seriously, i'm trying to emulate waves propagation without using particles (like ex. RealFlow do); and i'm trying to save as many CPU as possible, to make it apllicable in a videogame.

When i finish it, i'll probably share some code or the alghorithm; so stay tuned!

P.S. if you don't get it from the video; i'm working with C++ and SDL ;)

I actually don't know what types of contents i'm going to share; so that i've called it Thoughts in Proch... it's going to be a projection of myself onto these digits.
