How I Shave My Legs
I'm tagging this as gender journal, but it's not really an announcement about my life or anything. I decided I wanted to shave my legs and it took me a few tries to figure out how to actually do that, so I wanted to share my method in case it benefited anyone else. Note the title: it's how I shave my legs, not how you should shave yours, but if it helps someone else or gives you some extra data to ponder, it'll be worth the couple minutes it took me to write.
A Cautionary Tale
I decided to trim down my crotch hair a month or two ago, and I just took a pair of grooming scissors to it. I didn't exfoliate or shower afterward or anything, and the next two to three days were the itchiest of my life, it was pretty unbearable. I'm really really lucky I didn't get an ingrown hair, because that could have made things so much worse. Anyway, everything I experienced with shaving my legs was an improvement on that (so far), so that at least is good.
Initial Failures
I tried to shave my legs three times before I finally figured out the method I wanted to use:
I used a Gillette like 4-blade razor for men's beards in the shower, lathering up my legs with soap and water. It removed some hair but it was super patchy, so there would be patches that were completely smooth and then parts that were just as hairy as before.
I did the same thing again the next day, and got even less results.
I went to the store, bought a pack of 12 safety razors (1-blade) for about $5, and watched an online guide that said to cover your legs in shaving cream and "firmly pull the razor." Trying to follow the guide, I put on way too much pressure, and I kept nicking myself and eventually had to stop cause I started bleeding pretty bad.
Final Method
Here's the final method I settled on:
For my very first shave ever, my goal was to remove as much of my leg hair as possible without hurting myself. I put down a towel, put on a movie, and with a completely dry safety razor very softly and patiently went over literally every inch of my legs, just pushing down enough that there was contact and the razor could kind of gently scrape the skin and shave the hairs without cutting my skin. I had to adjust the angle a little bit, but eventually got in the zone. It took maybe 30 minutes for each leg. I did this in the morning so I could jump in the shower and exfoliate my legs with a loofah or a washcloth to prevent ingrowns.
Once I had done that, it was just a matter of maintenance since I don't have thick clumps of hair to worry about anymore. Now, about once a week, in the shower, I'll lather up my legs with soap and use a safety razor to just go over them very gently. The stubble is helpful here because it's easier to tell by feel which parts I need to go over or back over. When that portion of the leg feels smooth, I know I'm good. Then I make sure to go over my legs and scrape off any dead skin or hair with a loofah or washcloth.
So that's how I do it now. Once again, this isn't a recommendation for everyone, but I found this way a lot more effective and less painful than the tips I saw online, so maybe this method will be useful to others. If you have suggestions for me, I'd love to hear them, too!
inventing a new genre: nicepunk
one time i listened to punk music and they sounded really mean and i got scared so i'm making a new kind of punk that's all about radical kindness where people are really nice to you all the time and that's praxis
by its nature it's anticapitalist except for small businesses because corporations are mean but people in those little boutiquey stores are usually pretty nice
it's also anarchist because the government is mean but that could change if the government starts being nice again
nicepunk is anti-war because it's mean but it's pro-soldier because my uncle was in the marines and he's nice
it's anti-police because bad cops are mean but not anti-policing because good cops are supposed to help people which is nice

Hi I saw about getting your ears pierced, and I wanted to say congratulations! I'm a cis lady myself and I believe a bit older than you, but I remember when I first got mine done and how happy I felt being able to join in with my mom and my girlfriends. I hadn't thought about that in years, until I saw your post.
Womanhood is a blessing, I am so very pleased to be reminded of that. Thank you, Michelle.

When middle-aged women are really nice to me at work, I can never figure out if they're hitting on me or think I'm 12

Gender Journal: Entry #3
I got my ears pierced!
This was something I've been waiting for for a while, more because of what it symbolizes than actually how it looks (though I like the way it looks fine). I also got a bit of maintenance from my hairdresser to keep it growing longer and looking nice.
It's been rough sometimes these past few months. The more I think about the possibility of actually transitioning with hormones, the more I think about all the things in the way of that, mainly that I really need to focus on making some decent money so I can move out. But it's also been really amazing allowing myself to be more feminine online and expressing myself and feeling vulnerable, even if a lot of it is with people I don't actually know in real life.
Socially, I've really tried to get out there and I think so far it's worked! My pseudonym for this blog, Michelle, rapidly became not a pseudonym and is now the main name I use in spaces where I'm out. I'm in an online ttrpg community under that name that has a lot of other trans women in it, which makes me feel very seen. I also started going to meatspace events and it's so so amazing to meet other transfems there (though unfortunately the org hosting these events is having a major leadership crisis right now so hopefully it'll recover).
I love women. I love lesbians. I love trans women. I love trans lesbians. The idea that I can be as beautiful as the trans women I see in my phone makes me want to do whatever it takes to reach that goal, and I know the only way forward is to keep putting one foot in front of the other. It's scary, but I'll do it anyway.
Noooo don't lose weight you're so sexy aha

things fall apart and there’s anarchy everywhere; falcons fly freely and can’t be compelled.
Dimming the tide there is blood in the water and everywhere customs of innocence drowned.
