Back To Rome
Last month I said goodbye to Italy not knowing when I’d come back but yaass! I’m back again. How lucky am I? So much as I would love my visit to consist of pizza, gelato, wine and Italian boys. That’s not exactly what I’ve been up to. Maybe the boys and sightseeing haven’t disappeared but good-bye sugar and carbs. Yes, good-bye for good because I’m here for the next two months to put my body into full training mode for the Swimming World Championships held in Budapest later this year. Last week I boarded the plane leaving Cape Town and was en route to Rome. I’ve been here a week and its been everything I’ve expected. It’s been hell. Not the beauty of Italy – that will never change but the training… yeah, it’s been the hardest I’ve experienced. So much as I would love to go into to detail. I couldn’t, simply because it’s not my place. Because I’ve been lucky enough to be taken under the wing of Italian Head Open Water Coach, Emanuele Sacchi – one of the best coaches in the world who trains World Champion, Simone Ruffini and Olympic Bronze Mealist, Martina Grimaldi. So sharing his program just wouldn’t feel right. But to say the least, this week my respect for his swimmers and the work they put in has grown exponentially. And has made me realize what it takes to be the best. Any athlete should know that the sacrifices and loads of work you put in are huge but really this is a different game. Perhaps I may have to give up a little more than just sugars for a while. It’s 60 days until the start of the Champs, I’m rather excited, so take your marks and here we...

It’s been such a great experience and learning curve at my first Olympic Games! I’m happy with the swim cause I gave everything I had from beginning till end. I would have liked a better placing however I made a few mistakes in the race and it cost me towards the end of it. A huge thank you to @grahamhill196 And to everyone for all the messages of love and support!!!! Xxx #olympics #rio2016 #riodejaneiro (at Copacabana, Rio de Janeiro)
