One of the many perks of hiking is finding wild berries along the paths, like these lowbush blueberries. I've been searching for these delicious, wild snacks for a few weeks, and now, here in Maine they're finally in season! I've got to collect a bunch and make some jam, or maybe blueberry pancakes?

The Cadillac Sunrise was unlike any other sunrise (or sunset) I’ve witnessed. It was a breathtaking moment that will remain the foremost sunrise for many years to come—until another solar event greater takes its place.

I'm happy the way my van has transformed over the last few months. I went from plastic bins and drawers to a huge wooden cabinet with a large counter top—oh, and now a fridge! It works very well, and it does not kill my batteries. I think next week I'll be moving my bed around. Right now, my bed is going from wall to wall straight over the wheel wells which because of my height requires me to sleep on the diagonal or in the fetal position. It works, but it's getting old. I think I will be moving it so that it will be in the van longways, giving me much more room to stretch and sprawl as I sleep. And, I hope to build more storage and cabinets in the future! I'm so excited!

I've been vandwelling for 10 months now, and honestly, I know it's one of the best decisions I've ever made. Yes, it's small. Yes, it may be taboo to some, but it's a great alternative lifestyle. I may not have many materials possessions, but my life far richer than it's ever been. Because of the way I live, I'm forced into the unknown, unexpected world. I've met many interesting people. I've learned to remain strong and unwavering in risky and dangerous situations. I'm now living in a place I've wanted to visit since I was a child, alone, with no one by my side. This lifestyle has taught me self-reliance and gratitude. It has shown me who I am, and what's most important in life. Until I find a better alternative, it's the vanlife for me.

I took a 5-mile hike today and much of it was vertical. I conquered Sargent Mountain, an elevation gain of 1,300 ft, and Penobscot Mountain just south of Sargent. It was a very rewarding day. ✌⛰ (at Acadia National Park)

From attending culinary art school to now traveling and writing about my adventures, Anthony Bourdain has influenced much of what I’ve accomplished in my life. His passing has now given me much more ambition to achieve my dreams in his memory. I’ve come to realize that Bourdain has fueled my ever-growing desire to explore, travel, and learn from different cultures, people, and places. Thank you, Anthony, for showing me the way. Rest in peace, my man.
