I want to make a post about diseases, mental disorders, disabilities, and trauma unique to the omegaverse (ex. Obsessive Compulsive Bite Disorder {OCBD} where someone has the obsessive and compulsive need to bite people and their things), but I'm really flaking on ideas and names n stuff.

Anyway, I'm officially asking for your ideas or some inspo so I can make a big post about it. Thank ya ;p

Oh I was actually thinking about making a little post about a concept I had I’ll piggy back off you if you don’t mind

I don’t have a good name for this but a concept I had was for like overactive/sensitive olfactory things. Ov is a lot of sniffing and smelling and as a person who’s allergic to a lot of scents and gets super bad migraines bc of perfume or cologne I do think about how overwhelming it must be to smell everyone always all the time and this came about.

Individuals with overactive noses would get really overwhelmed by scents. This can create migraines and headaches, but I also imagine it comes with “venting” (let ur cat smell like lotion or hand sanitizer and they’ll scrunch up their little face and open their mouth smth like this like parting your lips to vent/process the smell), and excessive drooling. It also causes a lot of moodiness and shortened tempers. This is different than just being sensitive to smells as sensitive sniffers don’t start drooling at dinner parties or start losing vision from a migraine on a date.

There are otc solutions like nasal spray that mutes smell or stronger prescription ones for severe cases. Sometimes tho these sprays are strong enough to block all smells so it can be really disorienting in a society that relies on scent so much to be without it

One of my characters has this! If he’s in a crowd or room with more than like 3 people he gets overwhelmed and irritable and drooly. He’s always got a handkerchief stowed in case of a slobber emergency even tho he uses the nasal spray religiously

do you think licanthropy could exist in an omegaverse setting? im trying to make something of a harry potter rewrite with it and, while i know full transformation into wolves is not something i commonly see in fics, it is something i want to have. but then, how could remus or any other werewolves exist and not lose their identity? (i actually reworked all the parts of licanthropy i didn't like in harry potter before thinking of making it omegaverse, but still - not entirely sure how could i integrate that or the original thing anyways)

I don’t see why not! I’m not familiar with Harry Potter at all I’ve never interacted with the media there so I’m unsure of the specifics or the exact werewolf vibe you’re going for since you reworked it but I don’t think omegaverse takes away from the werewolf being special/different.

The way I usually use omegaverse it’s just people with some wild speculative biology going on, I personally don’t use any animal traits besides giving alphas larger teeth bc I think it’s hot. If you’re doing the same thing or something similar the werewolf would definitely still stand out bc no one else is animalistic in a physical sense to that extreme (omegaverse tends to be more hormonal and psychological I think). I think the only thing that might conflict is the concept of packs. You could run it a few ways you could take it in a direction where werewolves stick to themselves and once they become one they leave their own pack for their wolf pack (like new moon when Jacob peaced out for a hot minute there and Bella was like where tf did you go and was really mad about the tattoo for some reason like when he joined sam’s “cult” yk) or you could have it that some packs have werewolves as sort of protectors (again like in twilight the tribe elders are in on it even tho they aren’t wolves themselves), or you could even have them outcasted and have characters trying to hide their identities.

Things also depend on if it’s like a curse/blessing (Skyrim style) or if it’s something genetic some special guys inherent (twilight style).

All that to say it totally depends on what you want to write! The two aus do overlap a little but you can make it work, people have before this is a concept I’ve seen people play with (some aus have shifters that are basically just werewolves). Omegaverse outlines your sort of social script but it doesn’t determine your setting or other worldbuilding, it’s really flexible honestly.

ANYWAY all that to say that i appreciate ur post, i don’t see enough critical thought abt omegaverse and u hit p much all the hot button topics in one fell swoop. if u decide to revamp and post it again u def have a supporter in me ✌️

Yeah twt is an insane place, I just deactivated my account yesterday to make a more solid move back to tumblr so I still have some like twt mentality going on.

I really like dark subjects and I’ve always enjoyed thinking about them more so I agree with you. A lot of people just want a comfort universe which is fine I think but I like to dig deeper and get uncomfortable… it also makes for more interesting characters for me bc you get people who are all kinds of fucked up. Straight fluff has never been the genre I enjoy anyway

And ur so right about the animalistic side of it I wasn’t able to put a word to it but that’s it. It’s raw and instinctual can we really hold these characters to the same standards we hold irl and if we do what happens? It’s food for thought

I will say one reason I deleted the post is that it wasn’t up to my writing standards either I felt like I dropped the ball on it a bit. I still have the writing saved so it’s possible I’ll get in a mood where I want to rewrite it a bit and put it back up ! I feel like when I first started having the thoughts about it I had more in depth things to say but I lost it when I wrote it

hey just so u know polyamory and polygamy are different! what ur talking abt in ur problematic omegaverse post is polygamy. polygamy is what u commonly see in mormonism, sister wives and the like—one husband, multiple wives. polyamory can mean dif things to dif ppl but often has more ‘equal’ dynamics such as ‘throuples’ (all partners are dating one another) or situations where two primary partners are both allowed to date other ppl. i don’t disagree that polyamory can be dangerous if not done correctly (ie with a lot of communication) but what ur referring to is actually polygamy, which historically has a lot of problems as well such as the ones u mentioned

I think I used the term polyamory because that’s the term I see most often with ov headcanons and stuff. I wasn’t aware there was a hard distinction between the two either mb I assumed it was a rectangle square situation where polygamists are polyamorous.
