"Wanda, what has happened to you?" Her voice was laced with fear and shock.
"Wanda has accepted a dreamland, my dear. You have a choice too." Nightmare's tone was almost soothing, and if one didn't know the truth, they might be easily deceived.
Stephen Strange's ireful voice filled the darkness.
"It wasn't a choice anyway. Like it or not, you're my captive." His tone became calmer and darker, and his dark eyes focused on Strange
"You just chose the hard path, Stephen."
Wanda moved like a puppet and, without another thought, attacked her friends on the order of Nightmare. Her hands glowed dark red or mahogany of malevolence rather than her scarlet glow of power.
A wave emerged from her hands and threw both of her former friends away like a raging sea wave sweeps away anything that obstructs its path.
They tried to bring Wanda back to her senses, but it was futile as she was fully under Nightmare's control. She had submitted herself, and there was no going back. Nightmare unleashed his demonic army.
"How is this even possible? She has her powers, and I'm feeling pain even though I'm dead."
"You mortal fools, this is my world, and everything here is possible if I want."
When physical pain failed to shake the morals of his enemies, Nightmare employed the other way.
The darkness engulfed everything again, and Strange and her apprentice found themselves wrapped in a dark fog. They couldn't see or feel each other's presence.
Nightmare unleashed his demonic army—creatures that could shake even the bravest of humans, creatures too hideous for the human world. Dark, no physical form, just a wave of your deepest fears. A symbol of misery and grim thoughts.
And then another blow hit.
"Hey, honey, don't you want to live with family? We all miss you."
"Yes, cupcake, we do miss you."
"Stephen, I made some cookies. What do you think of these premium Donna cookies?"
"Here's a gift for you." Christine's face was all sweet and kind.
Time will tell you how much I love you
The mirage was luring the tired desert travelers, waiting to swallow them into the quicksand.
"STOP!" The apprentice took a deep breath "I'm willing to join you."
The fog vanished and turned into a figure.
"Your friends are smarter than you, it seems."
Strange was betrayed. He couldn't believe they were on the brink of the demise of mankind, and the one he trusted and considered the equivalent of family would be the one to bring mankind's doom. The future he had seen was wrong.
"No, you can't give up." His voice was shaky with disbelief.
"We're powerless. There's no chance of winning when we're against him. Believe me," she said, looking down at her hands, and whispering, "There's no other way."
"I cannot be defeated, Stephen. I am the Master of the Subconscious, the Midnight Leviathan, the ruler of the Nightmare realm, and now the ruler of the mortal realm."
Strange was banished to the prison of the Nightmare realm, a lonely place with nothing around to make him feel sane. The power of the reality stone was back, and so was her family. Wanda was lost in her little utopia, oblivious to the consequences of her reprehensible act.
Nightmare had finally succeeded in merging his world with the real world.
"The worlds will coalesce soon, and I will take a human form. My plan has come to fruition with your assistance."
Wanda was standing beside Nightmare, watching the portal to the outside world form.
"That thing about everything you want being done holds true?" The former apprentice of Strange sounded sceptical of the offer.
"I remain faithful to my words. Whatever you want shall be yours in this realm."
"I would like to talk to Stephen Strange once."
"I too would like to see him witness my victory as proof of what a terrible defender he has been."
In a few moments, Stephen Strange was facing them.
The portal was to open soon. The surrounding was turning cold, and everyone was silent in anticipation, with dread or triumph.
Suddenly, a red glow enclosed them—the glow of the aether. The smile on the girl's face exhorted Wanda to read her mind.
"No, YOU CAN'T!" exasperated, the scarlet witch waved her fingers and sent a mahogany wave toward the red glow. Both Reds collided, and Wanda was thrown back at the same time the portal opened behind her and she was thrown out of the realm.
The red glow was being overlapped by the black waves. There was only one way now. She gave a deferential nod to her mentor as he went through the portal. She vanished in the discoloured surroundings, and soon the portal vanished.
The red tinted surrounding was back, the land of the eternal sunset.
