sometimes i do really like you. i am not on your level. you are another type of stupid boy i walk past daily. you shouldnt mean that much to me. i dont really know you that much. but for reason it felt nice every single time you glanced at the same thing i did. it felt nice when we looked at each other at the same time. you didnt need to speak to me to stand out and thats the issue. i need instructions, words. yet you speak out to me most for someone who doesnt speak to me at all.

You and Hobie were friends. At least to you, since he never officially said you were a friend to him. He doesn't use labels. Usually, you guys would meet in each other's universe, and you guys would be hanging out doing all sorts of shit.
It would be lying if you guys weren't pushing the platonic line. He does seem more expressive with you.
On this Tuesday morning, you been irritated from a bad morning. Just overall a bad mood.
"Boo-" Hobie sneaks behind your back as you're writing in your journal. "I sensed you." You murmured, unimpressed by his tricks. He shut your journal and tossed it across the bed. "Not even asking about my day? Must be in a mood, hm?" He taunts, teasing you.
You scoff at his little immature act. "Well, you did interrupt me. I don't tend to enjoy that." "Oh dear!, What a downer you are... " Hobie leans back onto the wall, still teasing you. "Did you want to do anything special...?" A small pause. He smiles at you, "If you're so eager," while tilting his head to the door.
Next thing you know, you guys are sitting at parlor with cones of ice cream in your hands. "Cotton Candy?" He questions your decision. He thought it was quite a childish flavor choice. "Yes. It's a nice flavor... I personally like it- thank you very much." "Seems fitting for your stubborn behavior today..." "I'm sorry? Do you have a problem?"
His little smirk faltered for a split second. He takes in your reaction and tones down the teasing. "Ah. I see. My apologies." "No.. it's whatever- sorry." You wave your hand dismissively as you sigh. The cotton candy flavor can't rejuvenate your mood as well. A long, awkward silence was spent on licking and consuming ice cream. While a loud tension between them was there.
"Y/N... did I do anything?" He spoke in a softer, lower tone than his regular speaking voice. "No... It's not about you, don't worry about it." You smile at him to try to pressure, but clearly, something was off. "Come on. Tell me." He nudges your shoulder. Finally, "Ugh... okay, I had a bad morning, that's it. Ever since then, every single thing has been ticking me off increasingly!" as you groaned, sinking your head into your arms. "You sure-" "Yes!" He begins to smile again, but instead of a mischievous one, it seems more of a tender, authentic one.
You glanced down at his smile. It felt nice to find a friend who could understand your mood swings. You couldn't help but smile because of his smile.
Hobie noticed your eyes darting down. But he took it as you glancing at his lips. Yes, it was flattering in his head, but you're his friend. It felt weird. He ignored the nagging feeling in his chest, his heart fluctuating. He gulps and clears his throat, "Just checkin'," trying to hide his concern.
You did not notice his loss of composure yet. "Glad you understand, man," giving him a fist bump. "Yeah, glad." He responds verbally and gives you a fist bump back physically. A small silence falls between you, too. "You just made it weird... Why did you say glad like that?" "I didn't." "You definitely did, Hobie." "Don't think too hard.." He fluffs the top of your head. "Whatever you say.." You dismiss his tone.
When weeks pass, it was a busy month for you. It wasn't problems or villain of the week, but more like daily and constant. You didn't visit Hobie's universe in a while, and the last time was when you were irritated. You figured you might apologize one last time for that behavior again once you see him.
On the other hand, Hobie occasionally thought about what happened between you, too. Especially, you were looking down at his lips. He began to wonder and remember the small details of your behavior. He tries to convince himself he's being foolish for taking this much detail for someone, but he can't stop. Why am I affected? he would question.
At the end of your busy month, you decided to crash over to Hobie's universe. "Morning?" You walk into his messy bedroom with his overdecorated walls and attire. He lies on his bed with his electric guitar, strumming. "Fancy seeing you here.." He looks up at you with his prominent smirk. "Oh, zip it.." You head over to sit on his bed, looking over at his guitar playing. "Go on and ask me what I'm playing already.."
"Actually, I wanted to apologize for my behavior at my last visit." "You didn't need to apologize... But appreciate it." "Just needed to say it out loud again."
Hobie slows down his strumming as he gives more focus to you. "Were you busy?" "Yeah, I was. How'd you know?" "Didn't give me a reply for my few messages." "Sorry, Hobie..." "Eh, no need. I just spent time with Gwen." He attempts to make you somewhat jealous. "Oh, I see. I'll try to contact you when I can." Was she jealous? Doesn't seem like it.
"So what did you do when I was gone?" You asked about him instead. "Well, you know, making new songs for our band, quite difficult naming them actually... Catching the bad guys. Fucking fascists." "Two different meanings..." You sarcastically said in a teasing tone. "Oh fuck off, you know what I meant." He spoke in a lower tone subconsciously. He looks over at your face, finding your features alluring. "Hmph." He pokes the left cheek of your face. "Weird compliment, but thanks."
Why did I do that? He was secretly embarrassed by his impulsive action. "Forget it." He instantly moved away from you.
You raised your eyebrow at him, "What's wrong-" "Weather's looking a bit cloudy. Might rain. I know London." "Uhm.." The change in topic was sudden.
Long pause of silence.
A sudden awkward tension in the air.
"I think we made it weird again." You tried to lighten up the mood. No response. He's so inconsistent with his mood, and now you can't even tell what he's feeling. "Isn't that correct?" He finally mutters.
"Hey, let's forget this and watch a movie. What do you guys here watch?" "Jaws is now available." "Jaws? That's an oldie in my universe... But sure, if you haven't watched it." You hoped that the movie would ease the tension, and it did. You two both eventually forgot about the awkwardness.
Halfway through, Hobie scoots slightly closer subconsciously. You notice his scent. He smells like leather, citrus, and sea salt. Surprisingly, it didn't give you any discomfort. You actually eased when he got closer for some reason. It felt safe to you.
You sighed.
He looked over at you.
You turned your head.
He looks away.
"Are you staying for the night?" Hobie quickly asks to check. "...if you don't mind." "Don't see a problem."
She's staying for the night. He hides his smile with his hand while you focus on the movie. He doesn't understand why he feels this way, but can't help it.
"Since you're staying for the night... I do have a couch in the basement." "Basement? Sounds comforting." You scoff sarcastically. "No?" He tugs on a smile at your reaction. "You can sleep on the floor. Maybe the bathroom floor?" "Okay, I'll take the couch, okay?" "Suit yourself, luv." He mumbles the nickname to test the waters. "What?" "What?" He responds, playing dumb. "Nevermind I thought you said- eh, forget it."
When the movie came to an end, you went through his closet, finding blankets, and you took one pillow from his bed. "Basement's nice." He comments in a sarcastic tone. "Very nice..."
"What's wrong with the basement?" "Well, I just think you'll prefer the bathroom after 10 minutes in the basement." Hobie taps consistently on his guitar. "But.."
"Your choice."
"Whatever, I don't understand your shit.. seriously." You walk out of his bedroom, heading down the stairs that lead to the basement. As you glance around the room, the walls are blue rustic bricks, the floor is cold concrete with an old, raggy rug hiding its imperfections, and the plaid couch in the corner. "Who puts couches in the corner..." You mumbled.
"Smells funky." You turned the lamp light switch off. The only source of light was coming from the hopper window. Once you lie down on the couch with the blanket and a pillow, the uncomfortable feeling grows stronger.
Dark, dim, and eerie. But what held you back was Hobie's teasing that kept you in this stupid basement. "Shit." You mumbled under your breath. The anxiety on this floor gotten stronger. It started to overwhelm your spider senses by taking dust particles as threats,
You try to tell yourself it's nothing, but you know it wouldn't be a good sleep either way.
"Ugh..." You shift back and forth with intense discomfort. "Fuck this." You got up and went to the bathroom. "I can't believe I'm taking his word seriously..."
"You don't need to sleep on the bathroom floor." Hobie quickly yells from his bedroom. "Just come here." He said in a lower volume. You sighed and sat on the edge of his bed. "How was it?" "It sucked." "Don't pout." "Oh shut it, dipshit."
The night continues to crawl, and it was awkward at first. Until he turned over to face you. "Awake? Figured." You glanced back at him. You took notice of the moonlight making his cheekbones gleam. "The moonlight makes your face nice." You mumbled. "Hm?" Hobie's gaze softens at your words. "Nothing."
Hobie cheeses at your compliment. It felt fuzzy inside. "Are you acting shy now?" You lightly tease him. "Hey. I know I'm nice-looking. It's just nice to hear it from you." His tone was genuine towards you. "Hm.. really?" "Really."
You both immediately glanced away from each other after noticing the long eye contact. "Yea" You started. "Yeah." He repeated.
Why am I so nervous... You both questioned.
"Goodnight, Y/N."
"Goodnight. See you in the morning."
For the rest of the night, you guys both slept for the most part. But you did sleep first. Hobie would look over at your features in admiration. He wouldn't admit it yet, but he would have traced your profile with his fingertip so he could memorize it in his sketchbook.
The sun rose from the dead. Soon, you guys did too. Hobie woke up first with the sunlight beaming through the curtains. He scanned your face and smiled.
Eventually, you woke up to Hobie's alluring face. "Ah, you.." You seethe with fake venom. He scoffs and nudges you, "Get up..."
Weeks pass, and you were one day talking to Pavitr in spider-society, catching up on what's going on. You kept talking about the eventual crimes you fought in. You were so immersed in your storytelling that you didn't notice Hobie watching you two from afar.
Why is she there? Doesn't Pavitr have a girlfriend? She shouldn't act so close towards him... I exist.
"What's going on here?" Hobie quickly invites himself into the conversation with his elbow resting on you. "Hm?" His tone was defensive, with his other fist clenched.
"Hobie?" Pavitr looked and observed you two really closely. "Wow, you two have extreme chemistry since the last time I saw you guys-" "Pav!" You snapped. "I don't understand what you're talking about." Hobie was playing dumb and nonchalant. Pavitr raises her eyes at points with his eyes at you and Hobie, "Look at you two!"
"See if I would probably put my hand-" Pavitr was about to put his hand on your shoulder until Hobie snapped at him. "Too far, man... too far." as he shakes his head no. Pavitr only smiles and crosses his arms. "I see the sexual chemistry, too." He said only to tease you specifically.
"Hey! You!" You instantly become embarrassed about the current topic. "Ugh!" You groaned in irritation. "Don't like me?" Hobie smirks, teasing you as well, but it was an excuse to just flirt with you. "It's nothing like that moron." "So love?" "No!" "You're red." "It's just embarrassing, not me being flustered!" "Is that not the same thing?"
"Pretty much the same thing," Pavitr adds. "Both of you shut up!" Hobie raised both his hands in defeat, and Pavitr stayed quiet.
"Do you think she likes me?" Hobie secretly darts his eyes around, a code to Pavitr.
"She does but doesn't realize it yet." He messages back.
From your perspective, it was all awkward as you looked towards the ground.
Hobie quickly grabs your wrist and drags you to a secluded area. You did find his unpredictability annoying. "I'll give you time."
"What do fucking mean by that?"
"Just sayin'... "
"I'm so tired of you, seriously." But there's no true spite in your voice.
These days, you notice how jealous he gets when you talk to anyone. The thing about Hobie is, he's not direct with his emotional feelings. But you knew him enough to know how he "acts" up when. He encounters something he dislikes.
"Why are you acting like this? You finally confronted him. "Hm? What's wrong?" He tugs on a smile, staring at you as well. "I just never took you as the jealous type..." "We're not dating, Y/N."
"You sure act like it."
Silence tumbles.
You look at him. A spark of burning eye contact was established by you two. You felt nauseous when you swallowed whatever nausea you shoved down. Why did you feel this way? You always felt this way with Hobie, but it's stronger at this moment.
Hobie took a small step closer, and you mirrored the same. He slowly raised his hand to hold your face. He raised your head up while he leaned down. The distance between your faces was narrowing down until you went up and kissed him.
In an instant, he kissed you hard with passion. He brought your body closer to him with his other hand gripping your waist. "Fuck..." He quickly mutters under his breath during the kisses.
You pulled away from the kissing for a few seconds. "But I don't love you." Fuck I ruined the mood.
"I know." He mutters.
"I'm sorry." You took steps away from him, and you walked away out of panic. "No, I'm really sorry, Hobie!"
Fuck.
You slammed your body against your bedroom door. You regretted what you did. You can't even sort out your feelings right now. Feelings and relationships were not a great time for you. Shit. Shit. Shit!
Did you love Hobie? Well, you don't know... but why did you kiss him first? You should sort this out first... Did you want to be with him? Well, you're not against it... It's just how you never noticed it before.
Thoughts ran all over your mind, panicking. You most likely fucked up your friendship and relationship with Hobie.
The days past but only the thoughts of Hobie trespass through your mind. And each day you regretted it deeper.
For once, you decided to go and talk to Hobie yourself. You went into his universe and looked all over for him, yelling out his name. "Hobie? Look, if you can hear me, I'm sorry!"
"Hobie?"
"Hello? Fuck! I fucked up, okay?"
You sigh and pant out of breath from your yelling. You sat against the brick alley wall and slumped down.
"...Y/N." Hobie looks down at you.
"Hobie!" You ran towards him and started to spill your emotions.
"Hobie, I'm so fucking sorry for everything... I know I humiliated you and how you felt, and especially how I impulsively kissed you, then decided to leave. It was a bitchy move! I'm so so fucking sorry! You probably don't care because you have other girls to be concerned about! Honestly, I am attracted to you, but I didn't notice my feelings because of other things in my life! I can't believe I missed out on someone like you.
"Hm. So overwhelming.." Hobie mutters as he brings you closer to him. His hands run through your hair, comforting you. "I scared you, and you scared me. It just proves how much of a match you are to me."
"I know now. And I refuse to act like a fool again, Hobie."
"I love you too."
