lain on the other hand deals with extreme paranoia since in his story the heroine ends up being replaced or killed, and it feels like the inverse of trust. he’s so aware that his behavior is disgusting yet just can’t stop and because of that he keeps trying to reject crown and is the only reason ceci has tried to find a cure, because he knows that if he does die before his brother that would break him, yet if he doesn’t, his brother and happy family die eventually. if he seems pretty hypocritical that’s intentional, he’s self aware of his curse and avoids people, yet denies he’s purposeful or has a curse.
they’re great members at crown, unsurprisingly. ceci is social, he helps everyone, has zero self shame to take control of things. he does his job well, and is able to work with anyone. lain also is meek, he avoids others like the plague— so he never causes trouble like a fight. he just wanders off often, returning for missions for his brothers’ sake. the only time there was a problem when trying to convince lain to go on a job, that his brother wasn’t assigned, ellis said it would make his brother happy to see him get along with others. lain had a full breakdown believing ellis to imply that he was being thrown away onto someone else and he had to be calmed.
the one voice ceci has never mimicked is lain’s. though eerily, some members of crown swear they’ve heard a woman singing in the depths of night. lain recognizes this, but chooses to do nothing about it as it means ceci still wants to be his brother.

lain’s sleep is horrible. at some point he started taking medication, prescribed after by roger specifically. he doesn’t verbally tell anyone, crown knows nonetheless, keeping this knowledge between them. sometimes jude has flicked him, those are the only times he sleeps well. he has extreme night terrors, waking up screaming or covered in sweat as his paranoia seeps into his dreams, constantly of him either losing his brother or of his brother killing him out of hatred. he prefers to just not sleep, the only times he finds himself able to properly is when he is on his medicine or under jude’s curse, at least he won’t remember. he often finds his dosages feeling too light to work after time, and if it won’t work he won’t turn to roger yet, he just keeps taking multiple until he passes out or is physically sick. he’s also tried drowning himself in alcohol on a few occasions, and though it helps a bit, the feeling is not as effective.
