The rescued gentleman appeared shaken as he struggled to find his voice, nervously dabbing away the sweat that beaded on his forehead. When he did finally speak, Vanitas found the explanation for his fright to be rather dull, and his shoulders drooped alongside his boisterous attitude.
“Your stomach? Is that all? If that’s what you were worried about, I must wonder why you got in line in the first place.” Well, that wasn’t interesting at all! He did not much care for the other’s gratitude, either; he had wanted to see what the hubbub was about, and now that he had his answer, he could not leave this as a simple good deed. As is his nature, he was compelled to wring all the ‘good’ from his actions.
“You know, old fellow,” he started again, seeming to have perked back up – such could only spell bad news for the man. “Since I saved you, that means you owe me. Here’s what I’m thinking: give the ride another try. I’ll even accompany you.” Vanitas stated the fact as if that somehow made the situation better, when his presence clearly only made things much worse. “So, how about it?”
Perhaps Jarvis should have lied and said, aye, he was afraid of heights. The answer that he gave seemed to have disappoint the youth. The drooping shoulders to have indicated that. Jarvis was then belittled, rather mercilessly he may add, by the young man.
❝Erm...❞ He didn’t have a proper defense for himself. Vantias must think he is so foolish. ❝I don’t know, I just don’t know.❞ He admitted in defeat, casting a sorrowful look down at his feet. He was prepared for the onslaught of laughter bound to erupt from the adolescent. Except, surprisingly, it didn’t come. Instead, the kid was going on and on about how he was owed a favor from Jarvis. Honor before reason, Jarvis supposes, as he cannot find a reason to say that no... Jarvis didn't owe Vantias anything.
❝You did indeed save me, young man. Thus it is only fair that - Wait, what?❞ Jarvis’ head snapped back up. The aforementioned disappointment seemed to have disappeared, and the older man felt himself growing uneasy. There was a twinkle in the eye that Jarvis didn’t like. Not only that, Jarvis HAD to return the favor... apparently. The request was even worse. Get back in line, and go on the ride with him. The butler was speechless for a moment, unable for form a coherent response.
After all the trouble to NOT get on the ride, his mischievous acquaintance is basically forcing him to go. Good lord, what was he to do now? I really have no desire to do this, but it is true... this young man technically saved me, despite there no need for doing so. If this person was an Avenger, I would do whatever was asked of me, including the ride, with no questions. Can I say the same for this fellow? His thoughts were swirling.
There was no helping it, was there? ❝...fine. If that is what you wish, than I shall go along with it - despite my reservations.❞ He regretted the words as soon as they were out of his mouth.
