GLANCING UP TO THE TV SET ABOVE HER, ANNICK ROLLED HER EYES AT THE SIGHT OF HER COANCHOR; THE MAN’S SUAVE SMILE SEEMING TO LIGHT UP THE FLORESCENT SCREEN. He acted as if he was the Leonardo DiCaprio of newscasters, when in reality his ego was as big as the amount of gel he put into his hair. Being on a news channel where it’s biggest story was a man trying to keep a baby shark in his bathtub wasn’t exactly what she had in mind. It’s not why she busted her ass in university and spent years with male executives debating on if she had “the right look” or really if she was pretty enough. No, she didn’t go through hell, just to report on puff pieces, but everyone had their starting point. She just thought at this point in her life she had already paid her dues and she’d be headlining with Colbert or Maddow. “I’m Neil Goldfarb and this is Channel 6 News. Stay cool.” Before Annick could even say her lines, the man was already sending off and the credits were rolling. An awkward smile plastered across her face before the man yelled cut. Watching herself always sent a shiver down her back, but at least she has her trusty pal vodka. Speaking of which, she was on her second martini and ready for her third. Letting out a small groan, Annick buried her face in her arms before yawning loudly. “That guy is such an asshole, can you change the channel.” She asked the bartender. Slumping back in her seat, nimble fingers tresseled through her long blond locks as she sulked.
Curiosity getting the better of her, Whilemina glanced forward in the direction of where she heard a female's voice. Underage and carrying a fake ID in her bag, she sat down upon a stool beside her as she ordered herself a strong drink. She’d been doing this ever since the passing of her father - drinking that is. Despite being small, she could hold her liquor well. Bartenders rarely questioned her now, it didn’t matter how young she looked - she didn’t cause them any problems. Other than the occasional cubicle hook up with nameless girls. Minnie watched the bartender flick through the channels in order to change them for the woman and played with the cocktail stick in her drink. “I would ask for your autograph but m’afraid I don’t watch the news. Ey, maybe Abuelito would know who you are. He never stops watching the television, we tell him it’ll rot his brain but he tells us if he can live through 79 years of smoking he can handle the TV.” The girl rambled, making small talk and then popped the olives that had been hanging around at the bottom of her drink into her mouth. “Most men are assholes, unless they’re your family and then they’re someone else's asshole. That’s if you were dealt some good cards.”
