I’ve been trying out a different illustration style. Keeping a tight colour palette, which is a great way to constrain my designs.

I am adding to the pity party with @thecutdirect as we cannot attend BlendFest - an epic motion graphics conference going on in Vancouver today and tomorrow.
Originally I wanted to portray the character as though he was drowning his sorrows in some kind of alcohol, but in the end, decided that the alcohol was not needed...and it may give an incorrect impression of the animator.(Although I will partake in some beverages tonight to keep my mind off missing this conference.)
Thanks @thecutdirect for inviting me to participate!! Had so much fun!
There’s a big motion graphics conference this weekend and I’m bummed I can’t make it. A classmate, @mightysally, and I decided to make animated gifs to demonstrate our sadness and distress. And practice some frame by frame animation.
During the thumbnail process, I really wanted to use a fox. But the perspective, looking up and through the blender, was gonna make it hard to telegraph sadness (droopy ears, etc.).
Switched to a little girl, but the perspective, again, seemed like it would be challenging with the blender switch and her arm on the right: hair is important! Ended up going with the plaits girls wore when I was growing up, and those plastic bubble ponytail holders.
Thinking through the simple sequence of events (the gag?) took longer than I thought it would: should I start with the rainbow or the unicorn, and how does that affect the story? How to keep it cartoony and not gory?
I’m taking Character Animation Bootcamp now, and today I just learned about the importance of staging: giving the audience time to catch up to the story I already have down in my head. This was just a one-off, a goof—it’s not even character animation—but I want to start building this skill.
Even if nobody else gets it this just makes me laugh, so I’m happy with it.
Made in Photoshop CS4, line work done with the Stumpy Pencil brush. 19 frames at 12 fps.
Great work with my animation bootcamp pal, @thecutdirect. This is so much fun. I’ll be posting my Gif shortly too!

Some studies I've done through Noah Bradley's Art Camp.
Basic Furniture Props for the Rollers
Another asset for The Rollers.
Some game assets I've been working on for Rollers of the Realm. More to come!
More depth of field. This time using z-depth as a mask with the Lens Blur in Photoshop. Render time was much quicker which means I can go watch an episode of Homeland before I crash for the day!
More experimenting with depth of field.
Trying out Bokeh with depth of field and glare effects. Render took forever and I still didn't get the proper camera target distance. Oh well, this is what I get for rushing through. Don't ask about floating text...I think that was all that was left rattling around in my brain at 9pm last night.
