I take it extremely seriously to do absolutely the best work possible, and the truest work possible, because I feel like that is what’s going to resonate not only for myself but hopefully for an audience. And there just aren’t yet a lot of varieties of images that my community can pull from. But I am absolutely aware of the significance and take it very seriously because we need it. Not only just for my community — and hopefully what that means to be represented and seen — but also for culture. We’re a part of it. Let us not only see ourselves, but let others see us.

What you were saying about filling up the spaces for people to feel comfortable, I deeply relate to that. And I'm sure a big part of it has been because when you're the only one on set who looks like you, just very unconsciously, I can't really tell you what it is, I naturally try to make that space smooth, make that space safe or make that space fun. Not only for the other person but honestly probably for myself as well. I don't know, but I do think that being that sole person in a different culture, a different country, somehow affected Eve quite deeply.

Like at the very top of Season 3 in ‘Killing Eve,’ you see Eve in New Malden [outside Central London], which is actually the largest gathering of Koreans outside of Korea. I wanted it to be set in a place where Eve could try to disappear for a while. It was just a small bit of the show, but I wanted to bring the flavor of that because we carry our culture, we carry our history.
