Astrology Relationship Analysis - The Natal Chart
This will be the first post in a series of posts about relationship analysis in astrology.
The first step in any complete astrological relationship analysis is to check the natal chart to see what one would be attracted to, what one needs in a relationship, how one acts in a relationship, etc. There are many things to look at in the natal chart to determine this, practically everything tbh. But I’ll try to keep this post as concise as possible! Remember to consider aspects with all of these as well.
♥️ ♥️ ♥️
Obviously the first thing to look at is the sun as the sun is one of the most vital parts of your chart, thus making it important in love and romance, the sun is who you are at your core and we often click best with people who share some similarities with us. Or someone who compliments our traits (opposites attract kind if thing). For the different traits of the sun signs I would write down short descriptions of the sun signs here but I have a long post in them here.
Often people with personal placements, especially the sun/moon/rising in a sign of the same element as ours or the sign opposite of our click best with us, but so do those people with a placement in a sign sextile our own.

Next, and what I might argue most importantly, the moon. I say I might argue this as being most important because not only does the moon show our emotional needs and how we care for people emotionally, love is also an emotion and thus falls under the realm of the moon for the most part. So what do the different moon signs represent in terms of all of this? I’ve decided that I’m not going to give out my interpretations of the moon signs in this connotation as there’s too much to say and I want you to do your own studying and come to your own interpretations. You can also check where Cancer is in your chart to see some of your emotional needs.
But I will try to explain a bit, like for example a Taurus Moon would show love in a very dedicated fashion, possibly be physically affectionate and would be really caring. Searches for security in a relationship and find that to be one of their biggest needs and will look to make their partner feel secure and loved in the relationship as well. They’re much more romantic than they’d want you to know. While on the other hand a Gemini Moon may need someone who can intellectually stimulate them, communication is important to them in a relationship and is one of their needs, they need someone to talk to and want their partner to be willing to talk about their interests as well. Common interests are a likely need for them. They may show love through small gestures and through cute little short texts, or stuff along those lines. I hope that gave you a general idea as to how to interpret the Moon signs in relationships.
We generally work best with those, like the sun, who have their sun/moon/rising but this time also venus/mars in a sign of the same element as our moon, or trine our moon. But sextile’s do work well too. This is because then they hold qualities that meet our needs or that our way of showing love helps feed, or that they show love in a way that is suitable for us.

Now there’s mercury. While not generally thought of as the most romantic planet, mercury is vital for how we get along with someone as it’s how we communicate, and we don’t want miscommunication. Mercury also shows how our mind works, and often we like people who think it a way that is similar to us. You can also check 3rd house and it’s planets for this too btw. You can just interpret mercury how you usually would, but keep in mind that here we really click best with those who have it in the same element or modality as us. Similar Mercury/3rd house creates harmony in communication, making it less likely for arguments or miscommunication. So check your mercury to see who you’d have best communication with. And as they say, communication is key in a relationship.

Now for the planet everyone associates with love and romance, Venus, or as the roman goddess is called Aphrodite. No wonder everyone think of Venus when it comes to love, rather than the moon. Venus really does how us a few important things though, what we find beautiful, what pleases us, and how we go about how we show love.
I’m not sure if i’m explaining myself clearly enough, so I’ll write an example. Venus in Leo finds luxurious things beautiful, and things that are generally seen as beautiful. So they’re more likely to be attracted to someone conventionally seen as pretty. They also go about showing love in a very abundant fashion, and they may be very public about it too so pda is a possibility. They feel pleased when they feel like they’re being treated like royalty, when they feel adored and important. To use another example I’ll take the opposite, Aquarius Venus. Aquarius Venus may find more unconventionally pretty people attractive. And they may be more ditached and distant with showing their love, although it’s still there they tend to show it more sparingly and quietly, but when they do it’s completely heartfelt and meaningful. They feel pleased when they have an intellectual connection with someone and when their partner it also their best friend.
You may also check where Taurus is in your chart to see how you feel pleased, and you can check where Libra is in your chart to see what you find beautiful. And you can check both to see how you go about how you express love. We tend to be most attracted to those who have their moon/rising/venus/mars in the same element or in a sextile sign to our venus.

Of course now we look at Mars, how we show physical attraction and how we want to receive physical attraction, and also how we experience passion. We often go best with those who have a Mars opposite ours or in a sextile sign to ours. But same element works too.
You would really just interpret mars as one usually does but I’ll do a sample interpretation. Virgo Mars often prefer to give physical affection than receive it, but of course they do still like som in return for their efforts. They show physical attraction through a bit of awkward flirting, or through pay silly helping them with something. Virgo Mars like someone who’ll listen to them. They show passion through small acts of service. While less physically intimate than other mars signs these people can have quirky or kinky desires with physical intimacy. Although these people do prefer the passion of intellectual and mental intimacy.
You can also check where Aries and Scorpio are in your chat for this, as well as the 5th house.

Now to briefly touch on the outer planets, they all show things too, Saturn shows us what we need for stability and for something to last. Jupiter shows us what would bring us joy and what kind of humor we like in someone. Uranus shows how we deal with the struggle of needing to be a unit in a partnership but also needing to be your individual self, it can also show us our little quirks that might attract someone. Neptune shows unconditional or “true” love, and what we might sacrifice for it. And Pluto shows us where we are willing to become intimate and deeply bonded with someone.

Now to touch on house placements that I think are relevant. To start, the angular houses are extremely important as those who have planets falling in them are more likely to be significant to us once we meet them. Thise with planets on our 1st/7th house axis are likely to be attracted or attractive to us. With the 1st house it’s an attraction that is based on similarities, and with the 7th house it’s an opposites attract kind of deal. There is still a strong connnection with the IC/MC axis. People with planets by our IC seem very familiar to us, it feel like home and secure with them. People with planets on our MC also feel secure to us and there’s a sense of things going to last for awhile.
The succedent houses are also very imporatant. They show how we feel secure and what we’re willing to have as joint resources (2nd/8th) and how we form joyful relationships with others (5th/11th).
The cadent houses don’t play as much of a role, but they still show us what kind of thinking and ideas/values we like (3rd/9th) and what might be a bit of a burden to us or may take a lot of work from us (6th/12th).

Now to quickly touch on relevant asteroids in our chart.
Juno shows us how we act in our long term relationships, and also who would make for a good long term partner for us. It shows what we need for a long term relationship and what we have to offer for one.
Ceres show how we care for people physically and mentally, and how we feel cared for as such. Thus this is important for feeling cared about in our relationships.
Pallas shows us how we deal with difficult decisions and other complications in our relationships, it shows how we strategically go about it.
Chiron show how we can help other heal and care for them in that way, which goes in part to how we can help care for a partner. It may also show what could hurt us.
Lilith shows how we provoke our partner sexually, and how we attract them through our independent selves.
Vesta shows how we need to be respected, by ourselves and those around us, for your wellbeing and self-care. Thus it’s be best to find someone who can easily respect such needs.
Eros can show how we get passionate almost to the point of obsession with our sexual and self expressive creative desires.

Also be sure to check your Vertex and Sun/Moon Midpoint because those are two very important points in your chart for relationships!
I hope this first post in the series I’m doing has helped you all a bit, and I hope that my Mercury trine Neptune in the 3rd managed to clearly explain everything lol.
