Yes please! More behind the scenes lore! Love your fic, so glad someone else is also giving Sentinel some more depth lmao.
Also random suggestion? Rung exists, got send out at mortal manifestation of Primus again but he forgot so he just hangs around the edges of Cybertronian high society, just out of reach. He gets summoned at some point for therapy purposes (maybe Red Alert?) And maybe Prima feaks out but nobody believes him when he tries to tell everyone that thats Primus, because he keeps slipping peoples minds.
Oh, Rung HAS a spot in the lore of Hatchling!
Honestly i spent a lot of time thinking about how i wanted him there, because i DID want him there, but he would have also completely negated a good chunk of what makes Optimus' an outlier in regard of his relationship with Primus
(which, you'll find out how it works as chapters come out, but i'm very happy of how i made it work hehe)
So, basically, in hatchling Rung is an old vessel of Primus that the god created from scratch to check on Prima during the war - post the fall of crystal city, so very early in - because he knew that Prima wouldn't have taken well having to surrender the Matrix
He was his therapist for some time and a good friend, but Prima never learned he was Primus, also because Primus did his real best to act out an entirely made up persona during that time frame
he left behind the vessel only when he was sure Prima could have returne to walk on his pedes, and basically injected the frame with a custom-created spark and some of his memories; basically bringing 'Rung' to life as a real cybertronian, a real person separate from himself and with his own will
Rung is still alive at the time the movie takes place, and while i don't think he will appear physically in the fic (as for nw, things can change), he will be at least name dropped a few times
While The 13 aren't going to get more POV chapters i made up enough lore about them to feel like it would be a shame not to mention it somewhere, given it will never come up in the fic itself
Prima is the oldest cybertronian that ever lived, and outside of Optimus' potential life span, also the only one who reached (and will ever reach, given Op will sooner terminate himself than live that long) 80 millions of years in age
He spent the first 5 mil of years wandering cybertron along with an avatar of Primus, who was particularly eager to show him around
the Cape is made by Primus himself and while it's not on paper, it counts as a relic of Primus
the star pattern changes as you move it, basically reflecting the stars of the portion of sky you're facing toward, and can be used as a compass when you're outside - assuming you know the stars well enough
Primus made it once he realized he forgot Prima's internal compass and the guy was, thus, completely clueless about where he was going
it cannot be used indoor - or well - it's useless. which is why Prima always had attendants, acolytes, knights, or any other form of underling around him in public
after Sentinel was created, he was Prima's first pick
especially because Prima took care of designing Sentinel's frame, and they look starkingly alike - albeit Sentinel has more defined features and to human perception, looks older (picture 25ish vs 35ish years old)
He was not a fully volountary thing, Prima just saw the sparkeater ass looking thing Amalgamous had designed and said Oh Hell Nah
The lightbulb thing is ALSO thanks to how Prima's armor is structured, since it can both gather and expell light
He does not do it often because it's VERY bright, and risks blinding someone
Despite using He and She both, only his closest friends know about it, and everyone else refers to Prima as He/Him
Prima's title - "The Moonlight Blessed One - is just one of the many titles that came from the myths of his birth (among them you can count also "son of the moon" "Beloved by the stars" "graced by the cosmo and Primus alike" and several others) and while many are exagerations, he was indeed born under the light of one of Cybertron's moons (unsure of which, i still gotta decide)
He is a little closer to Primus conceptually thank his siblings in arms, in a way he is divine made mortal, rather than mortal partially divine (or mortal elevate to partially divine, like Optimus), and was the only one who could speak to Primus via the Matrix in his day to day life
Optimus can, albeit only via meditation and thanks to the weird fuckery he has going on with his being dead but also not
He lost this ability when he had to surrender the Matrix to Zeta
not by his choice of course, but he was in a VERY bad mental place after the fall of Crystal City, and he agreed a leader in a better headspace was a safe choice
this only made his depression and guilt worse tbh - after all, Crystal City was among the first territories lost to the quintessons, and he watched his people be whiped away, completely powerless to help
and because of his connection to Primus, he was way more empathic toward mortal suffering
the cape Primus made him was a large source of comfort during that period
also, ngl, even if they won the war, to get back the political influence and prestige he had before passing on the matrix, it would have taken centuries probably - he had really withdrawn from most social, political, and religious events during that time frame
some other details:
he knows by memory all hymns and chants that his people ever wrote for him, and could sing them from top to bottom without issues
and he is a very good singer (contrary to Sentinel who is a better dancer, but they still matched fairly well at public events and functions) with quite the wide vocal range as well
The only one with a larger vocal range than him was Nexus, who had 5 different voices she swapped between
He thinks that memorizing those songs is the minimum he can do to thank the one who wrote them
Prima's name is formed by 2 glyphs, like Primus' name, and is the only cybertronian who ever took Primus' first glyph rather than the second (like his siblings in arms) - this denotes both importance and closeness
his alt mode is a large sized speed car, but has 6 wheels instead of 4
He had many lovers over the course of the millennia, and conjuxed most of them
Given his lifespan however, they all died of old age. He choose to live the life in the momemt and apprecciate temporary joys because he could not bear the thought of cutting that happyness out of his spark to forsake the suffering as well
In a way Primus himself was also his lover, which is also why having to surrender the Matrix deeply hurt him
I can't properly explain how his relationship with Primus worked, it's way beyond what a mortal can really understand or experience - it's really something only someone who knows for a fact that god exist, has empirical proof of it, and has entertained said god in chats regularly, can experience
plus Primus' love could be considered both a wonder and a horror beyond mortal comprehension (Optimus has a similar thing going on as well, even if it will be rarely brought up in Hatchling)
If any of you watched Iron Lung: the god in Iron Lung and his affection/love toward Simon is the closes comparison i can think of to what i mean - the sentiment is there but it does not necessarily translates or manifests into something a mortal can experience and call "love"
Prima never questioned this because Primus was the first "person" he ever spoke with, and saw a lot of fuckery in those 5 mil years; so for him it was pretty normal
Nightmare fuel aside, if you ask him, he'd talk about Primus like an old friend (or an old lover, depending how close you are with him)
overall a pretty easygoing person, easy to get along with and basically everybody's cool older brother
enjoys most kinds of entertainements, hobbies, and arts
he's also very easy to amuse and laughs at a lot of things
contrary to his smile - which is basically 100% trained to make him look good - his laugh is naturally beautiful to hear
his chest opens upward, like a picnic basket
despite his pristine armor and delicate look (per cybertronian standards), he is technically a warframe
or well, the distinction is very blurry with him, especially given the civilian alt moder... but also he was Primus' first guy, cut him some slack!
He''s a very skilled warrior tho, and an expert swordsmech
The guiding hand existed in the settings of Hatchling, but instead of Primus and his buddies, it's Prima and his 4 first knights: Mortilus, Solomus, Epistemus, and Adaptus
(They were not tied just to him tho, for example Solomus was also Alpha Trion's disciple, and an archivist - while Adaptus was liked by amalgamous, but this isn't about them lol)
they were pretty much normal cybertronians but they got mythicized a lot to be fair
both the starsaber and the skyboom shield are his relics, both were forged by Solus
aaans this should be all? welp, if anything more comes to mind i'll just add it to the post :P
If any of you sees similarities between how i write Barricade in hatchling and how TC writes Barricade in Crossed Sparks/Hardware Failure, it's fully intentional
His design is losely based on the IDW version and has a mostly black, blue and white colorscheme, for who is curious
Barricade is not planned to have his own chapter, but he is the Chief enforcer of Iacon, and a relatively close friend of Sentinel (no matter what the little bastard says)
he's a pretty easygoing person, and cares about his friends and underlings both - to the point of ignoring rules or law if it helps keeping them safe
althought sometimes it does not look like it, mostly because of his slightly nonchalant demeanor
picture his attitude as similar to Earthsparks grimlock, in a way
He is a mech forged halfway in the quintesson war, and has been among Sentinel's closer circles from the beginning because of his pedantry for whatever job he is assigned to
because of this he trusts Sentinel's words and judgment, sometimes even a little too much despite knowing the guy has more brains than common sense
If you read the fifth chapter of this fic, you'll know that he is not one for overexplaining or sharing information outside of what he considers necessary for what he has in mind
Jazz on the other hand HAS his own chapter, but i wanted to show him off anyway
He is a young enforcer and detective, he has completed the training required little before being sent on the field, and unfortunately his lack of experience is also part of why what happens on chap5 happens
despite this, he is still a competent enforcer and a good agent, and even Barricade can see it - which is why post chp 5 Jazz will get some extra training to put his best qualities to use
His growing relationship with Sentinel is one of the reasons for why Barricade trusts him with Sentinel's safety, and why never sends anyone to tailgate them whenever they are outside (Airachnid does not count, Barricade has no control over her whatsoever lol)
Honestly i feel like i should describe more of how Jazz is outside of his job but i feel like we all know how Jazz's character is, and we all know why nobody dislikes him
He is good friends with Bee, and as per chapter 5 he shares an apartment with Prowl - who is not aware of Jazz being kind of friend with Sentinel, otherwise he would have lost his shit
(he WILL lose his shit when he comes back from his first day at work and gets told by Jazz "oh yeah he is like that" after he complains)
later on in the story he is among the ones that leave Cybetron along with Optimus and Megatron to drive off the quintessons and force them in a real surrender rather than a simple retreat
because of this he is also one of the mechs that end up on earth first, and while he does not have a human buddy (i'm not even much of a fan of that concept tbh), he goes along well with Jack and Fowler both
He is also going to become a good friend with Smokescreen (picture tfPrime smokescreen, personality wise), and they feed into each other's bullshit a little
Barricade on the other hand remains on cybertron - he fought in the first war, and when he got to remain back and not return to the front lines, he jumped at the occasion
He later joins the main autobot forces at the earth base temporarly during Sentinel's first visit, and gets into a bit of tomfoolery
mostly because scaring humans by honking as they walk past his vehicle mode is, according to him, the funniest shit
Jazz does not approve of this outwardly but he finds it kinda funny and as long as no one is getting hurt it's fine
i usually end up forgtting about it, and i was forgetting about this one as well, but i spent quite some time coloring these under @tcfactory's coaching and i'm pretty proud of them
these belong to a minor/side crossover setting based on his fic "Crossed Sparks" and the SG version of my main au/fic, with the little pink guy functioning as a little spy/cleaner for the much bigger guy
Hihi! "RAAAAHHH" anon here, I know you said it won't be canon I'm your au but....
Did you ever have a opisent fankid design in mind?👀👀
hey anon!
Your question got me thinking really long honestly, way longer than what i would have thought lol
but the real answer is, unfortunately, just a vague "kinda?"
Mostly because in hatchling, assuming that's the setting you're referring to, sexual reproduction for transformers is not really a thing - and mostly because their interface method is not really a mean easy to make function with sexual reproduction in mind
HOWEVER
i did come up with something along the lines of a workaround, which i can share in a separate post if anyone is interested (i don't want to turn this into a lore dump lol) tho even there, there would be multiple complications for both Optimus and his idiot conjux
With the whole "Optimus is just a very socially presentable zombie" deal taking the crown... Which, can be solved, but would require Primus basically blasting his own spark energy through the matrix during a sparkmerge to trigger the budding, given Optimus does not really have a spark anymore - so the bitlet would be mostly Primus' rather than Optimus'
yet, if we assume they manage to work around it, i think they could have an offspring (if you want to have a chuckle, me and TCfactory joked that his guy here could be a rather solid concept for what would spawn out)
But overall, i'd say that an hypothetical kid could be a very large guy, like a class 10 to 13 (so between 18 and 25 meters in height, if not more), likely a carrying flight frame like a shuttle capable of boarding other mechs like Astrotrain, with a predominantly blue/purple color palette, maybe some very light lavander? idk where that came from but i had it in mind and it would not leave
maybe one day i will sketch down what they could look like, but right now i'm swamped with several things, including illustrations that i'm finishing, my uni courses ending, and the next chapter of hatchling :')
i hope this answered your question, lovely anon <3
