Mike rolled his eyes. “You do not look fat.” He crossed his arms. Ember could be a pain sometimes. “You look very pretty, now can we go? We’ll be late for the party,” he asked his best friend, checking his watch.

At that, she chuckled a little bit, running a hand through her hair out of habit as she did. She flipped the page of the menu before she glanced up at the other, saying, “Yeah, I drink.” More than she should? That was a matter of perspective, really. “Ooh, I love wine. A red, maybe.” She wasn’t in the mood to get completely shit faced drunk.

Mike grinned and nodded. “If we’re doing that, then I might as well go with a steak. Those are two good pairings right there.” Mike laughed and ran his fingers through his hair, looking at her. She looked very nice. Mike suddenly wondered if he was dressed as well as she was. He’d never had a great sense of fashion. His mother, and he was ashamed to admit this, would pick his clothes out for him for school, all the way up until his senior year.

Mike looked away when the waiter came to take their order. Mike told him about the wine, and the man suggested the bacon wrapped filet mingon, to which Mike was more than eager to try. “I’ll have that.” He grinned proudly and folded up his menu.

Mike looked down at his hands, frowning. “A break? A break from what?” He snapped and looked back at her. “A break from you? Because I could fucking use that sometimes.” And God he didn’t mean to be so horrible.

“I’m so sorry.”

“Good.” Mike spat, looking away. He knew as soon as she was out the door, it was a slim chance to get her back in. If he lost her, Mike would just be fucking worse. He closed his eyes and shook his head. “I’m sorry too.” He murmured, rubbing his face.

“A date?” Mike asked softly. “Like... a real date?” He blushed. He hadn’t been on a date in a long time... Not since Jessica, and even she wanted to stay home mostly. Or go to parties. Which wasn’t really a date.

“Why would you do that to us, Hanna?” He asked softly, brokenly. “You slept with someone else. Being drunk isn’t a FUCKING excuse.” Mike grabbed his jacket and ran his fingers through his hair. He hadn’t smoked in a long time, but now he needed a cigarette.

Mike stayed quiet after that. What was he suppose to say? That was dark and terrible and it made him sick. Mike closed his eyes. He felt green all over, like he’d be sick any moment. Mike coughed and rubbed his eyes.
