Part of an ongoing series my partner @janedayreader is creating, #poetrybarter, where she writes you a poem in return for something from your garden/yard. I get to take the photos. This one is a portion of a poem about rhubarb: For our last encounter, I’d simmer a pot of creamy mushroom soup made from tender oyster mushrooms, ruddy russulas & ramps. I’d garnish it with chiffonaded plaintain & freshly ground pepper. I promise I’ll coo like a pigeon from the other side of the bathroom door. Honey? Hooooney? Hon? How are you doooooing in there? Prettiest of woodland fungi. Brittlegills. Whiskered. The sickener. Emetic russula. Nausea. Vomiting. Abdominal pain. Diarrhea.
Part of an ongoing series my partner @janedayreader is creating, #poetrybarter, where she writes you a poem in return for something from your garden/yard. I get to take the photos. This one is a portion of a poem about dandelions: I used to pick dandelion bouquets for my mother when I knew the tulips were out of reach. Otherwise, dandelions were only good for uprooting, for target practice with weed-killer. But they’ve banned cosmetic pesticides & our lawns are hazy with whitened seedheads. The death toll tonight? That some plants are weeds & others worthy. That flowers are purely ornamental. Also: four infant canker worms. One black ant, tightrope-walking the table’s edge. A little spider. But I’ve marmalade boiling on the stove, half distant citrus & half local weed. I’ve managed to eat the city.
