“I’ve been watching way too much Cupcake Wars on Netflix lately. It’s taking all of my willpower to not go buy a dozen cupcakes from the bakery right now. Quick, convince me it’s a bad idea.”
“You have come to the wrong person, you poor fool. I will convince you to do anything and everything. You buy those cupcakes or I’ll do it for you. You can never have too many cupcakes.”
“Uhm… I’m doing pretty good I guess, i’ve got a lot to deal with.. Damn it’s been a long time since I was able to go out and actually party.. I miss is so much.” He said as he laughed softly.
“If you miss it so much, then just go to a party. I’m sure you can fit at least one into your schedule somewhere. Stop putting it off and just do it, y’know?”
“Well I just need food, I toke a handful of Asprin. Not literally but you get the gest.”
“You better be joking.Food I can do, well I can pay for it. Where should we go?”
“Don’t get weird on me now, Mike.” Bas half-jokes, elbowing the blonde in the ribs. “Whenever’s good, when do you wanna go?”
“I’m not being weird, you are.” He deflected with a nervous laugh. “Well, you know the best parties start at midnight but for your sake we can start earlier. Does eight sound good?”
“ So, like … ” An eye roll. We’re in for a story, folks. “ I was just chilling on King Street, right, during my lunch break … y’know, whatever, no biggie, eating sushi like any other girl … & then !!! I saw a DOG. Like, this sweet li’l old lady just !! Had these adorable spaniels & I was so glad – like, soooo glad – I was sitting outside. Those were the cutest dogs – & the lady, Jean, she was nice, too !! I think I made a friend. ”
“Wow, you got so excited over dogs?” Mike couldn’t help but laugh. “That’s actually really adorable, and I thought I was a fan of dogs. Guess you beat me on that one. Hopefully this Jean person let’s you visit with her dogs again, sounds like you really enjoyed their company.”
“Excuse me, would you mind telling me if I have frosting on my face or not? Yesterday I walked around with chocolate frosting on my chin for like an hour and nobody told me. My sisters thought it was hilarious though.”
“Sounds like something my sister would do to me. Nah, you’re good. No frosting that I can see. I’m guessing your job is to blame for such incidents?”
“Today was honestly the best birthday I’ve had in a long time. I only had to be on set for half of the day, and then I spent the rest with my family and some friends. Plus my mom is in town. Do you want a piece of cake? Seriously, if we don’t give some of this away, we’ll end up eating it all.”
“Wow, I’m glad I get to participate in such a successful birthday thus far. Well, who can say no to cake right? Anyways, what else do you have planned for tonight? I don’t even remember my last birthday so I hope it’s something fun.”
“Congrats to you because I’m hung-over, and clearly you are being to loud for my liking.”
“I’m sorry my luck wasn’t passed on to you. I think we need to get some food into your system. Maybe some aspirin too.”
Her legs almost failed her as she was whisked out of the stranger’s lap. She turned to find another blonde–– her brother of all people. Although he meant well she frowned. “Why, I was having a good time: I was completely fine, Mikey.” Her arms sunk and she gazed to the right, spotting another can left unattended, she ran over and picked it up, quickly downing whatever was left. “If you call our chauffeur will you make sure they have Rosé wine.”
“Missy!” Mike yelled out but he was too late. “What did I tell you about drinking things that are left unattended?” He sighed as he walked back over towards her and wrapped an arm around her waist to keep her steady. He was not drunk enough for this. “You know the driver never disappoints you.” Mike reminded her as he walked towards the exit of the club. “Plus we’ll have a better party back home. This place was dull as hell.”
“I might, but I can handle it.” Bas replies, laughing softly. “Mhmm, girls. S’okay, I like guys too.”
“I know you do.” Mike tried his best to laugh it off casually. “I’m sure guys will be there to or whatever. If you’re interested in anyone better keep them away from Missy. A-Anyways, what time do you want me to pick you up?”
“Well, I don’t really know about that, honestly.” August said to Mike as he laughed softly. “How are youj doing besides being surprised?”
“I’m doing great.” Mike grinned as he stretched his arms. “I’m just about ready for another party. How about you?”
“Woah, wait. before noon, in your own bed and no hangover? Who are you and what have you done with Mike?”
“Ah, you’ve caught me out. I’m an imposter. I’ve stolen Mike’s identity. To think I almost had you fooled! My plans are ruined.”
Seriously. What was a kid with a watch that had to be at least a couple grand and clothes that oozed wealth and money doing in a place like [ t h i s ] ? It wasn’t the most dive-y place he’d ever been into, but it was far from the glitz and glamour this kid looked like the would feel much more at home in. “’Let you in’?” he scoffed, giving him another once over. He looked familiar, but he struggled to place his face. “Its a bar, kid. Not th’ Upper East Side.” He’d ignore the ‘VIP’ comment, for the sake of not knowing just what the fuck to do with it. “Jus’… Relax. Take it easy. Lot’a guys in here keyed up from a long day.” It was a gentle warning, more for the other’s sake than his own. “What’s yer name?”
“I know it’s a bar, silly.” He mused with yet another laugh. He was having the time of his life. He loved people, especially the ones he met in bars. His chipper mood was also due to the booze running through his system. “I am relaxed. I think you need to relax.” He swayed on his seat as he continued to smile, resting his head in his hands for a moment. “Mike.” He almost sang his name. “Henderson. Mike Henderson. Do you know my pops?” His expression turned sour and he waved the bartender over so he could order another couple of drinks. “He’s an asshole.” He scoffed before he glanced over at the male. “You want something? Order anything I don’t mind paying. Anything to--to piss big ol’ Mister Henderson off. He doesn’t even like cops.” Mike frowned as he quickly downed the rest of his drink.
“Drugs are bad for you.”
“Very funny. Are you the poster child for; the horrible effects of drugs? You look it.”
“Oh, it’s too much, isn’t it?” Lucy asked with a frown. “I can’t wear this to a meeting. It’s too busty, right? And you know children like to…well, grab.”
“Nah, I don’t think so.” Mike eyed up the dress as he shook his head. “You’re barley showing anything. Plus you could always add a cardigan if you’re worried. The colour is really nice on you too.”
“Well congratulations?” August asked him as he laughed softly. “I’m proud of you, bud.” He said as he laughed softly and shook his head a bit.
“You should be proud. It’s a total accomplishment.” He nodded his head proudly. “I’m putting it on my resume.”
Flynn let out a light chuckle at the other man’s response. “I’m one of those weirdos whose music taste depends on his mood,” he explained, slipping his phone and earbuds into the front pocket of his jeans. “EDM’s great if I’m partying or something, but I like something more subdued if I’m just relaxing.” Flynn gestured to his pocket. “Right now, it’s The Strokes. You can have a listen if you want?”
“I don’t actually listen to music unless I’m at a party...” He admitted with a laugh. “It wasn’t a thing my folks allowed, they thought it was a waste of time, so I never got into the habit of doing it. Maybe I should change that.” He laughed a bit awkwardly. “The Strokes? I don’t think I’ve heard of them. Oh yeah I would love to, if you don’t mind?”
