“I said, ‘Do you need help with picking flowers?’” Tilting her head to side, Avery replied with a slight grin. “I am selling flowers after all.”

“I’m pretty damn proud of myself. I woke up before noon and in my own bed for a change. Plus I had no hangover too. Either I’m still drunk of this is some sort of miracle.”

“Woah, wait. before noon, in your own bed and no hangover? Who are you and what have you done with Mike?”

It wasn’t odd to see people outside using their phones but it was a little odd to watch someone wander around with their phone held in the air muttering to themselves. He had no data in this area. It was nothing but thick brick buildings cutting off his signal. Luckily there was wifi coming from the near by cafe’. It was closed for the night but if he climbed up on the park bench and lifted his phone up a little higher to be in better range it might just work. — {Message Sent} — “Yes!” He gave a little half shout at the excitement of his success. It was then that he felt a pair of eyes on him and he wondered just how long they’d been watching and how much they saw. He gave a nervous chuckle and slowly turned from his position of one foot on the top part of the bench and the other planted on the seat. “Not crazy…just no signal.”

It was one of those nights where Avery basked herself under the moonlight, there’s something about the moon that comforts her. It always has, even back when she was young and very, very innocent. Nights like these, Avery lost herself in thinking about everything and nothing at the same time, she didn’t know how long she had been walking, minutes, hours, even. 

“Yes!”

Her shoulder jumped in shock when she heard a small victorious “yes”, she didn’t think someone would still be around at God who knows what time it was at that moment. Following the source of the voice, Avery’s eyes fell upon a figure who obviously wasn’t expecting someone to see him. With a laugh and a shake of her head, Avery replied. “Nah, pal. Everyone is a little crazy when it comes to no signal nor wifi nowadays. You’re cool.”

“Because pineapple is amazing and sweet and surprisingly goes well on pizza.” Max takes a big bite of the slice. “Come on! Try it. I promise you won’t regret it!”

Avery wrinkled her nose at the other’s action, but smiling politely when she was offered a slice. “No, thank you. I’ve tried it before.. It’s just not my kind of thing, I supposed.”

“Wow, now that’s just rude. I’m gonna change the locks so you can’t get into my apartment anymore.”

“Um, you’re gonna change the locks, is it? Well, your loss. Who did you think put aspirin and a glass of water on your bedside table for you to wake up too? House elves? and sometimes the home cooked meals on your table? your imaginary wife?”

“Wait– You’re telling me some asshole is bothering you? You should of told me sooner. I’ll make damn sure he never steps within a ten mile radius around you again. Piece of shit. I’ll teach him a goddamn lesson. You should wear my work jacket tomorrow, it’s got my name on it and you can tell him I’m your boyfriend or something so he’ll back the fuck off. I’ll even walk you to and from work. I’ll bash his fucking teeth in, I swear.”

“Woah, woah. Easy there tough boy. No violence needed, he hasn’t done anything else other than trying to chat me up and I can take care of myself, thank you very much.. But....  Wearing your work jacket to work tomorrow is a good idea, maybe finally he can take the fucking hint I’ve been trying to shoot at him. Ana’s eyes lit up and a soft smile worked it’s way pulling her features together softly. “Do they… still bother you?” Anastasia asked, biting her lip. She was intrigued to say the least but obviously wouldn’t pry so much however she thrived on secrets and knowing details about people that most didn’t was a favourite hobby. “Well, that’s not what I’d like to imagine but it sounds like a perfect world.” Ana laughed.

Something crawled up Avery’s throat when she was asked the question. “Well-” she cleared her throat before answering, It has been a while since someone had asked her questions about her past, she thought after a a few years, it would be easier for her to talk about them, but apparently not- “nah, not anymore. It’s in the past now.” Avery shrugged her shoulder, dropping the subject. “Well, I don’t know if we should be sad or happy that our perfect world involves around food and nothing else.” She replied with a laugh of her own.

I don’t know if you remember this or you’re too pissed drunk to remember, but I told you there’s this weird ass boy who comes to the shop acting like he’s buying flowers but he totally came just to flirt with me and try to take me out. “Just a banana?” inquired Celeste, her orbs growing wide. “That’s only a snack. Are you alright?”

“Honestly, I didn’t realise that I was hungry, not until you mentioned that you were, anyway.” She said with a shake of her head. “I was busy with work today, apparently, it’s “I fucked up and my partner is angry with me so now I need to buy them a bouquet to make them happy” kinda day.”

“Cats are known to be sneaky and deceitful, that’s kind of why they’re my favourite animal, but I understand. Who’s hurt you?” She reached out and carefully moved a strand of hair out of the way of Avery’s eyes. “Food’s rather good like that.”

Avery inwardly flinched at the question, but she masked her reaction with a grin. Even years after, she still couldn’t shake the memories off. “Oh, just.. someone from the past.” She muttered quietly, so soft that it wouldn’t be heard if they weren’t standing close to each other. “But, yeah. Food’s really great. I just wish that we could stuff greasy food into ourselves and not get possible heart attack from it.” She replied, louder this time.

Anastasia smiled as she saw the girl she recognised from a very important discussion the other week, her eyes were still warm and her expression perfected for these sort of things. She could beg without sounding it. “Anything, I just want to help these dogs find their forever home, this helps toward their current living conditions, food, flea treatment and medical bills so that they can make an amazing recovery.” She continued, biting her lip as she shook the bucket, there were signs of a few donations. “It’d be enough for little Sami, the newest and youngest dog. He was just left abandoned with no answers. I couldn’t believe it, honestly you should see his face, oh he will be so happy with a new toy.” Ana held the bucket in one hand and retrieved her phone. “Look at him.” she opened up the gallery, biting her pouting lower lip, eyes almost glistening with forced tears. She brought up a photo of a small fluffy puppy, it’s fur already matting and it’s eyes as wide as Ana’s. “This was him just the other day, I’ve gotten his coat sorted and he’s no longer malnourished. I just wish he could maybe get a few more toys to keep him company since he’s too small compared to the other dogs.”

Avery always had a special spot for animals, especially sad, vulnerable animals. So it really didn’t take much to convince her to donate, She may have this icy aura going on around her, but it’s only because of what she wants people to perceive of her. Truth is, Avery is just a sweet girl with a haunting past. “Oh-” she leaned in closer to the screen, her eyes soften immediately at the images shown to her- “aw, he’s the cutest! But, unfortunately, I only have a few dollars with me- I hope it’s enough?” She let out a soft sigh before flashing the other girl a small genuine smile. “I’m glad that you’re doing this for the dogs, some people wouldn't even care.”

She held the green bucket in her hand and smiled, pushing her bangs out of her face so that she could look at the person before her. Her brown eyes were wide, begging like a puppy. “It’s for a good cause, please.” Plastered across the front of the bucket was a rather convincing plea for homeless dogs Ana was supposed to be helping.

Avery had just left the flower shop and was about to walk back to her place when she was being stopped by the charity girl, she had seen her around a lot, but Avery never donated anything, considering she was barely making enough for herself. “Oh.. um.” She pressed her lips into a thin line, thinking if she should donate or not, but in the end she couldn’t resist the girl’s pleading eyes and it was for dogs. Avery always had a soft spot for animals, besides one of her customers paid her extra for making his bouquet looked pretty and said that Avery had saved his life. “Here you go, I don’t have much, but-” She pulled out a few one dollar bills and handed them to the girl. “I hope this is enough.”
