Mikel’s full statement on his next challenge.
Mikel Arteta leading a coaching session at the 2016 FA Wales Coaches Conference.
“For me it was a dream to come here because I always admired this club. My Arsenal debut was something special. I was so happy and privileged to be a part of this club. When you have the chance to get up on those steps at Wembley and lift a trophy, it’s unbelievable. Arsenal was my favourite club in England when I was a kid.
To become the Arsenal captain and to share the nice moments that we’ve been through has been a spectacular experience for me. I’ve tried to take on board all the help and commitment that has been shown by all the players and the staff in every department, who I have tried to bring together. I hope whoever follows me as captain carries on trying to maintain the values of this club because that is what sustains us in the long term.
I would just like to thank you all so much for the way in which you’ve supported me during my time here. It’s been a huge honour, a privilege, and I can only promise that I’ve done my best. I tried to behave in the most professional way and maximise the resources we have. I’m at peace with that. Our ambition this season was to win the Premier League and we’re so disappointed that we came short with that aim, because it’s not good enough for this club.”
where are you? i miss you. I've been following you since you were bestlittlespaniard. please be active again soon xxx
Sorry only just seen this. Life got in the way, this was probably sent like 2 years ago but thank you for the love.
Can't believe the day is here that @m8arteta is retiring. Since the day he joined Everton in 2005 he has always been my biggest hero. Before him never had I seen a player for Everton with the same qualities he had as a player. And I am so proud that we got to watch him week in week out when he was at his absolute best. When he left for Arsenal I was gutted and still am but I was so proud seeing him lift a couple of trophies because he so deserved that.
I am sure every fan who has watched him play over the years has one or two memories that they will never forget. For me the one that stands out is his goal against Fiorentina and although we ended up getting beat on penalties I will never forget the noise at Goodison when that goal went in.
I am so proud to have been a fan of such a wonderful player, and I'm sure he will make an amazing coach and some day hopefully a great manager. Thank you for all the brilliant memories you have given me over the years.
You will always be the best little Spaniard I know.
Happy birthday Mikel

Fan Project
For anyone who missed it the other month. I am making a fan book to send to Arteta to celebrate his 10 years in the Premier League this January if you want to take part please read this post
http://mikelarteta8.tumblr.com/post/97458841259/10-years-of-premier-league-football
Also if you do not want to write a full letter you could answer these question and send me a message.
1) Favourite Goal
2) Favourite Moment
3) One word you would use to describe him
4) Favourite quote he has said or someone has said about him
5) A picture of you meeting him.
I'll be starting to put the book together mid December so you have up to the 16th to get yours in. Thank you to all the people who have already sent something over.
10 Years of Premier League Football
This January it will be 10 years since Arteta joined the Premier League and I'm hoping you will all get involved in a fan project to celebrate this. There are many ways you can get involved but the main project is a fan book. I'm looking for the following things:
A fan letter to Mikel, either send me it as a message or if you want to hand write your letter just ask for my address and you can send it to me
Your favourite memory of Mikel, whether that is meeting him, a specific goal, or any other memory.
One word you would choose to describe Arteta
Your favourite quote that either Mikel has said or someone has said about Mikel.
Your favourite picture
A picture of you meeting Mikel if you have been lucky enough to do so.
I'm also hoping to get some fan video message, so if you want to record your message for Mikel you can send that in.
Also if you have any other ideas to celebrate Mikel's 10 years PL career let me know. I'm not just looking for Everton/Arsenal fans though I'd like to hear from any Rangers fans or any other people who support Arteta.
You can either inbox me your messages or send me an email at [email protected]
I'd appreciate if you could help spread the word. The deadline for all of your messages is Friday November 28th.
Cazorla on Arteta's Captaincy
“It makes me very happy. It was important for me to have him around when I arrived here. He helped me a lot on and off the pitch. He really deserves it.
“There are always players who are born to be a captain and he is one of them. He talks a lot on the pitch and also in the dressing room.
“He is always up for whatever the guys need. And that is what a captain has to do: transmitting conviction in order to keep the team together. And Mikel is prepared to do this.
“It is easy to tell what he’s like [as a person]. He is a guy who lives for football. He is always looking after himself, he is super professional and he also cares about the team so everyone is happy. That is why he is the ideal captain.
“Whenever there is a problem he is the one that goes and talks to the manager. He leads this group, so this captaincy is well deserved after his hard work here at Arsenal.
“He speaks the group when there is a problem. Whenever there is a meeting with the manager he is the first one telling everybody. He is always there for whatever problem it may be and also to address it with the manager.
“He transmits that motivation you need before an important game. The captain has to be the first one to speak. Mikel was doing this when he didn't wear the armband, so now he is the captain he will do so even more."
It will be 10 years in January since Arteta joined the Premier League, hoping to do a fan book and other things to celebrate.
I'll give you all more information when I've planned it properly, so I hope you will all get involved and help to spread the word.
