WHAT IS IT

Think of your favorite movie about astronauts and space. Now picture the monitor-crowded rooms back at Earth where maps are displayed, threats are tracked and decisions are made. That’s a control room, and that’s where Roomdimensions’ work shines.

From pieces of furniture such as consoles or meeting tables, to technical solutions such as videowalls or cabling management, the company does whatever it takes to provide clients around the world with everything they’ll need to take their facilities to the next level.

MY ROLE

As a project engineer, my job consisted of creating custom CAD documentation for every proposal, based on the client’s requirements, showcasing the following information:

Workplace layout: description, distribution, dimensions.

Ergonomic visualization studies.

3D models: Assemble, adapt or compile required console models and additional furniture. Export to render-friendly format.

Technical drawings for every console model and additional furniture.

In-Depth infographic drawings of features: cabling conduction, connectivity, monitor arms and arrangement, accessories, gadgets.

Product codification, registering, archive management.

Assembly guides.

WHAT IS IT

Guitar Pedals are devices you put on the floor and turn on with your foot, because your hands are too busy playing. They make sound effects, like distortion, reverb, even that wah-wah sound is made with a pedal.

The Elevator Pitch gives you delay, as if you were playing in front of a huge wall and the notes bounced back, but with a catch: every note comes back more distorted and an octave higher (pitch elevates, get it?)

MY ROLE

I built both the Nibble brand and the Elevator Pitch from the ground up. Here are some tasks, in case you want to start a pedal company:

Electronic prototyping: Breadboard + Stripboard.

PCB design: Schematic, components layout, CAD for hardware layout and drilling.

Graphic design: Pedal art, packaging, user manual.

Branding: Naming, logo design, custom typography, audio logo.

Communication: Social media, content creation, strategy, engagement.

Production: PCB + outboard soldering, assembly, inventory.

Real life contact (my favorite part): Sharing my work with artists that inspire me, getting feedback, going to gigs.

WHAT IS IT

You check in to the hotel, and now you need to get to your room. Can’t take the stairs because of the luggage, and you also want to know where the spa and the dining rooms are. What do you do? Follow the signs. And who makes the signs? It’s Roura Studio, of course.

Following the footsteps of prestigious large-scale sign maker company Rótulos Roura, Roura Studio creates all kinds of pieces of signage, but specializes in hotel elements like directional signs, room numbers or evacuation plans.

MY ROLE

Hotel signage requires lengthy methodical processes due to the large amount of custom units and particularities each building may have. My work spanned from interpreting architectural plans to exporting each unique sign for printing or fabrication. Here are some of the tasks:

Drafting original design proposals.

Marking reading points on the map and assigning the correct identifying code to each.

Drawing each individual sign with special attention to location, orientation and surroundings.

Exporting (macros came really handy here).

When working on evacuation plans, some additional aspects had to be taken into account:

Floor plan orientation according to the reader.

Nearby safety elements, like fire extinguishers, hoses or alarms.

Secondary evatuation routes.
