I Don't Care Enough To Think Up A Title
Since it's been about a month since my last post on here that wasn't a reblog of other people's posts about #gamergate, people apparently are wondering if I'm alive or dead.
I've been feeling a bit sick, but I'm, of course, alive.
There was a death in the family (my uncle). We weren't particularly close. In fact, he was a lot closer to my late brother. Still, it's sad when a relative dies. I think I got sick from going the wake. All that handshaking and hugging and stuff. It's a germ farm.
I spent most of September re-watching all 86 episodes of THE SOPRANOS. The first three seasons are great. Season four is awful. Season five is pretty good. Season six is spotty. The last five or so minutes of the final episode are still the worst ending to a TV show ever.
The fall TV season starts soon. I'm hardly watching any network shows this year, pretty much everything is cable.
I'm also still watching DOCTOR WHO, but I've been feeling lukewarm at best towards this current series/season. I hated the Robin Hood episode, and the rest just haven't grabbed me. The show has dropped a bit in priority for me, like it did during the 10th Doctor era. I want to like Capaldi, I just haven't seen a great or even a very good story for his Doctor yet.
I also finally finished up the 1978 SPACE PIRATE CAPTAIN HARLOCK series. It took me about twenty years. I saw a horrible english dub of the first episode back when I worked at the comic book store in the early 90s. Then I never saw another. Last year, Discotek put the entire series out on DVD and I pre-ordered it. It took another year for me to actually get it out of the shrink wrap and then I watched one to two episodes a night at bedtime for a few weeks. The show holds up really well, even if the animation is dated. Space opera at it's finest.
I've also watched some movies. EDGE OF TOMORROW was pretty good.
In games, I played AKIBA'S TRIP on the PS3. (It's actually AKIBA'S TRIP 2, but we didn't get the first one here in America.) Basically it's a JRPG where you go around an accurate version of the nerd mecca that is the city of Akibahara. The game's gimmick is that when you fight you tear the clothes off of your opponents. It's the sort of game the fun police hate, and it was only $40 so I had to buy it.
You have to give it to the Japanese. They don't give a fuck about political correctness. While western developers might start to cave to the complaints from feminsts and sites like Polygon and Kotaku, things will be different overseas. The folks over in glorious Nippon will keep cranking out whatever sorts of games they feel like making. They'll keep promoting them in ways that certain people over here would find objectionable. They give zero fucks about what a bunch of crybaby gaijins think. Which, to my way of thinking, is a good thing.
So, that's some of what I've been doing instead of writing on here. But why haven't I been writing on here?
Ultimately, I've just gone sour on Tumblr. The platform itself is alright. There a few things I don't like about it. Like not being able to center images in text posts like this one!. I'd also like to be able to reply to posts on other people's Tumblrs without having it be a post on mine. Lack of webm support is pretty disappointing as well.
Mainly, I'm not nuts about the Tumblr community, if you want to call it that. While there are still quite a few really good sites on here, Tumblr has pretty much become an internet dumping ground and I'd prefer to spend my time elsewhere. While the "special snowflakes" are everywhere, they're most associated with Tumblr, which means I'd rather not be.
Well... I've been blogging for a long time. In fact before "blogging" was even a term. I plan to keep doing it. I'm just not sure where I'll be doing it or what form I'll be doing it in. Whenever I decide what's next, I'm sure to link to it on here. In the meantime, I can be found on Twitter (link's in the bio at the top of the page.)
