AHAHAHAH for the “boyfriend moments” comment: i think it was just a way to mean the typical boyfriend/couple-like stuff! Likely that person wanted to ask if there were gonna be scenes that are kinda domestic and romance. Which we’d all love, but I think Kit and Ty have higher fantasy stakes than that in their world and their love too👀🌈

I think you are right about fantasy stakes. When I think of romance, at least in a Shadowhunter context, I think high stakes, high emotions, massive consequences and, usually, the absence of the luxury of time. Also, usually Magnus walks in on you at some point or another.

I do think of TWP as very romantic books. Part of focusing in so closely on the main four characters is to give those romances space and time. It allows for Kit and Ty to be on a desperate chase across Europe but occasionally have time for squabbling over whether licorice is disgusting (yes, yes it is) or you, know being terrified about the other person's safety (which I find romantic, though not domestic.)

If the question is just whether Kit and Ty ever do anything romantic, I do not know what terrible person would promise a romance between two characters and then never let them do anything romantic. Kit and Ty must reconnect after a bad split, but that in itself is a romantic process. Also, they are quite a bit older than they were in TDA so "I don't know, do I maybe want to kiss this person?" is more like "I desperately do want to kiss this person, but maybe they do not return the feeling."

But even then, desperate kissing is just part of a whole, and ideally only works if the two people can also just have a nice time together when things are slightly less desperate. Like trying to make pancakes together. Which might happen. I'm just saying.

For those wondering about the fox. Grace has a subtle motif with this animal throughout the movie, but especially this shot where they pack this toy fox with his belongings on the Hail Mary. seeing the bus scene in a new light after my rewatch because ohh my god ryan was actually just so ridiculously giddy about naim liking him back. they go and talk to this girl who tells them that the entity looks like who you're most into, and ryan's shifting awkwardly from foot to foot bc welp. guess the truth abt his crush is out there now. what can you do. but then he looks to his left and naim is just as awkward, eyes flicking to him and then away. and wait, hang on a minute. ryan's entity looking like naim is a given, but naim's entity looks like him too. when jessica yells at naim he puts a protective hand on his back because that's something he feels suddenly allowed to do now, knowing what it means that naim's entity looks like him. and when they're on the bus, naim still reeling from the near miss, ryan talks him down, holds his hand, refusing to let fear ruin this. bc he's had a crush on the new kid since he came to town, and he had to work up a shit ton of courage to lead him to the mill and take that first leap of faith. he hadn't lied, when he told naim it was his first time. what he had with hunter was nothing like this. and now he's there on the bus with naim, and even after all the insane shit that's happened and is still happening, he can't help but be stupidly excited by the fact that naim likes him back. yeah this evil demonic entity might never leave them alone, but ryan's just found out naim likes him to the point that it takes his form to tempt him and as fucked up as that is it's kind of validating too. naim likes him, and he kisses ryan back when he leans in, shifts in his seat to give him more room, and you know what? fuck it. ryan's gonna give him the best hand job of his life on this bus right fucking now

An AU ending perhaps everyone can enjoy. Sadly there was no gay marriage in Victorian England but I enjoy Cassandra Jean’s depiction of a same-sex Shadowhunter wedding, and Charlotte attempting to bop Will and Jem with the bouquet. And how she solved the wedding attire problem (one of you gets to wear black with gold, and the other one gets to wear gold with black!)

there’s something so gutwrenching about the fact that the female characters in obsession have real dreams and wishes but never get the chance to see them realized, while both male characters waste their wishes on short-term selfish satisfaction. they were complex, free-spirited young women who just wanted to create art, and they were destroyed by a man determined to confine them to his superficial perception of them. nikki wanted to be a writer, sarah wanted to be an tattoo artist and now neither of them will get to be anything at all
