Time for another Albether week snippet! The setting is the "post-corruption AU", the same as the first one.

Aether dabbed the damp cloth across Albedo's brow, and Albedo's eyes fluttered open. The unfocused look in his eyes suggested he still wasn't fully present.

A knot formed in Aether's throat. He forced a smile and said a quick, gentle "hey".

Albedo leaned into Aether's hand as his eyes drifted closed again. "Thank you, starlight," he mumbled.

Aether froze.

He knew he shouldn't read too much into anything Albedo said right now. Corruption had strange effects on the mind, after all…though usually in a way that made the afflicted bitter and angry, not affectionate.

Aether set the cloth aside and looked at Albedo's face.

Starlight. The word, and the way Albedo said it, echoed in Aether's mind. It reminded him of something Albedo had said to him once, about him carrying the aura of the stars. With Albedo, Aether was never sure what was a fanciful metaphor for strictly scientific interest, a genuine expression of friendship, or something more flirtatious. He wasn't sure whether Albedo himself knew.

One thing Aether did know: he wanted to hear Albedo say it again.
