Cold Virus: barely gives me a sore throat

Imagine being that guy who fired 412 cannon balls at a city and only managed to kill one chicken.

I have a query consult in 15 minutes and I’ve lost my voice.

I get told so often to just “self pub”.

I probably would, but I don’t have a cool $5k available to fund edits, have a cover designed, maps, endpapers, and book designed to creat a top notch product and a beautiful package reader enjoy displaying on their shelves.

Then there’s distribution to think of. Hardcover, paperback, ebook, audiobook, translations, etc.

I just don’t have the resources to publish my book the way I want and the way I feel it deserves.

However….I did hear from an agent that self-pub books are becoming a new slush pile. I.e. if they can do well on book tok, then they’ll make trad pub offers.

I should be sleeping, but I can’t stop thinking about how someone in the industry compared my WIP to a Victoria Aveyard novel. I’m told I should be proud.

I had no idea I could make something so beautiful or even that I would.

This vase is illustrated with themes based on my novel being workshopped for Futurescapes 200 pg writing workshop this fall, Stars of Betrayal in which two princesses get fake married in order to stop a generations long war between their two kingdoms and a dragon riding prince decides to intervene and demand one of them be his bride. I find out next week what other publishing professionals thought about my work. 😬

If the novel isn’t great this piece is blowing my mind.

The book is Immortal Remains. It’s a story about a girl who just wanted a vacation, but now she’ll have to topple an empire.

Includes the following:

* moody fosterlings who just reached their majority and now have access to magical trust funds

* soul eating parasites that exchange soul for magical abilities

* a pirate centaur

* a mermaid queen

* a man who survived swimming in an active volcano

* a man who didn’t and is making it everyone’s problem (dude it was a volcano)

* various lesbians

* a queen b lesbian with some serious wingspan

* (Seriously)

* thirteen gods (deceased)

* a gay prince in a secret relationship with a satyr (alive…for now)
