Capri-Revolution (2018, dir. Mario Martone): set just before WW1 in the island of Capri;
Il giovane favoloso (2014, dir Mario Martone): a biography of poet Giacomo Leopardi, therefore set in the first half of the 1800s;
Noi credevamo (2010, dir. Mario Martone): set during the Risorgimento (Italian Unification);
N - Io e Napoleone (2006, dir. Paolo Virzì): set during Napoleon’s exile on the Elba island;
Il primo re (2019, dir. Matteo Rovere): about Romulus and Remus and the events leading to the (mythological) founding of Rome;
Martin Eden (2019, dir. Pietro Marcello): based on the novel by Jack London, set in the first years of the XX century;
Una questione privata (2017, dir. Paolo&Vittorio Taviani): bosed on Beppe Fenoglio’s novel, it’s set during WW2;

Il Gattopardo (1963, dir. Luchino Visconti): based on the novel by Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa, it’s set in Sicily during the Risorgimento;
Morte a Venezia (1971, dir. Luchino Visconti): adaptation of Thomas Mann’s novel Death in Venice;
Ludwig (1972, dir. Luchino Visconti): based on the life of king Ludwig II of Bavaria;
I Viceré (2007, dir. Roberto Faenza): based on the novel by Federico di Roberto, it’s set in Sicily during the Risorgimento as the Bourbons start to lose power;
L’amica geniale (2018–, dir. Saverio Costanzo): it’s actually a tv series but it’s really good, i highly recommend it. the second season will start airing in february i think, it’s set in Naples in the 50s and it’s based on Elena Ferrante’s books.
