✔️ Haji Lane ✔️ Arab Street ✔️ Chinatown ✔️ Little India I wasn't kidding when I said I will do a historical and cultural tour for my first trip to Singapore. I've always thought it was just another city until I went out my way to visit these places. It's interesting to see how very different cultures thrived in one small country, and how Singapore attracts even more people from many different countries up to the present, like it has always done so in the past (Sir Raffles would be so happy to know this rofl). Aside from visiting these sites, we also joined two museum tours: Battlebox (SG's surrender in WWII) and the National Museum for the History of Singapore. Would have squeezed in a tour about SG's constitutional documents but my local friend had enough 😅 (we were super drained from all the walking and the information overload). The tours were super worth it and for the NMS ticket I'm lucky to have saved S$15 because I'm a pretty overseas student charot. Going through the entire history of Singapore in ~1h30m helped me understand their past and how it somehow shaped their future policies (plus there's some juicy drama about their colonizers KEK). I can't say I'm an expert on this now and IG isn't really the best place to discuss this but hnngh I'll surely talk about this a lot with friends who can endure my history trivias lel. I've never seen a more accurate depiction of the role of public libraries in lifelong learning until I visited the National Library of Singapore. It's open to the public, including foreign visitors. People from all ages, including kids, students, and even the elderly visit the library to use its facilities.
