Timelapse of Shelly 004 taken 03/04/2025
Ok finally almost cracked the code for my timelapse footage of Shelly. I found a light, a dimmer, and some diffusion paper that I've folded over a couple times, and I think I finally have achieved the light box effect that I've been looking for.
The wind was crazy last night and I didn't properly secure the light so there is some shakiness that you can see get picked up on camera, since I literally just have her set on top of a plastic container on top of the light itself.
I'm also seeing that there is some flickering going on, so for the timelapse I'm recording tonight I'm going to make sure that whatever I have the light intensity set to it's not doing that.
It's not perfect yet but this is definitely the cleanest, most well-lit timelapse that I've managed to capture of Shelly so far, so I feel pretty good about nailing my final setup tonight and moving from test timelapses onto recording the actual footage I need of her.
Sidenote: I also am attempting to make most of Shelly into sclerotia, but I don't have any petri dish filter paper, so I'm trying with some coffee filter paper that I cut to fit the size of the dish. I've given her plenty of oats and gotten the paper evenly hydrated, and put her inside of the darkest container that I can find. I'm hopeful that it goes well and I can cut her into smaller pieces to use, so I'm not managing an overwhelming amount of active cultures, but I've seen mixed reviews about how easy this will be / whether or not the coffee filter paper will actually work. Worth a try though!
