how do you understand creativity?

I feel like after taking this class I have a better understanding of creativity because of our workflow this semester. There isn't a formula for creativity that leaves things open to interpretation. Everyone is going to have a different definition of creativity. This means that everyone will have a different understanding of creativity. I feel like I understand it from my perspective because of my own creative process but then I feel like I am constantly learning because I see other things from other people. Similar to collaboration I feel like the more exposure you have the better you will understand it.

I agree that there is no formula for creativity and that everyone's definition will be different depending on how we view it. I think all of us are constantly learning in our own way depending on what we are exposed to but also how we process ideas.

What is Learning?

Learning is a really complicated subject to try and define. Learning is something we do all the time without even thinking about it.

Think about the phrase "you learn something new every day". This sounds like an exaggeration but its true. Every time you open social media you "learn" about the people you follow. You learn about the state of the world. So learning extends further than just academic things.

Speaking of literal academic learning I think this is best defined as someone's comprehension of a given subject being taught. Grades are supposed to be a metric of how well someone is learning but this is hardly the case. Exams are something people study for then forget a week later. That's not learning. Learning is really being able to comprehend and gain value from what it is you're being taught.

I completely agree. We are always learning even without realizing it. I think that now that we along with many others, learn a lot through social media just because we are consistently on it. However, as phones have advanced, we learn even more when upgrading, updating, etc. I think including an academic definition helps to understand the two types of learning. Academically, we have to learn to pass and that we do more knowingly but when we are just going about our every day, we don't notice it.

What is learning?

Unlike the previous post, I haven't really thought much about what learning is. I would say that learning is something that you can obtain by using your senses. For example, I could just be using my sight and scrolling on TikTok and come across a recipe. I am then learning that recipe. Going off of that, I also think that learning is anything that you can gain knowledge on that you do know about or that you didn't know about. Similar to content, you can learn from anything at any time and all the time. We may not think about it but we are always learning whether it be what foods we do or don't like, how to play a game, or even just the conversations that we have with others. Learning is the result of our actions as we go through each day but it can also be the result after reading or in-taking of the content we view daily.

What is content?

This was an ongoing question throughout this semester and my answer has continued to change and change. Currently, I think content is anything that you can deliver to an audience in your own personal way. Content is a way to express ourselves and be creative, to bring our ideas to life. It is a way to connect with others that have similar interests, hobbies, studies, etc. Content gives us endless possibilities and it can be anything that we as people and individuals would like. This class has really helped me to better understand my personal opinion of what content is but also how I define my type of content.

How do you understand communication?

Another important area that I wanted to better understand due to the workflow and style of this course was communication. Better understanding not just the communication of my peers but also my professor was something I needed to better understand. If I have learned anything to understand the communication of others, my professors and how they communicate with their students becomes very important, especially within courses that are fully online. I have also learned that I need to better understand how communicating can better our relationships with others and lead us in the right direction.

How do you understand creativity?

As we are wrapping up this semester and finishing with this course, I have a better understanding not just of creativity but the creativity that comes with writing. From a young age, we are taught how we have to write or what the right way to write is when in reality there is no correct way. I think that creativity has no right or wrong way but instead gives us as people, the chance to use our imagination for ideas to come to life. All of us define and understand creativity differently but also how we bring that creativity forward. Over this semester I have learned more about my creative process but as time goes on it will change and I will learn more and more. I don't think there is a complete answer to understanding creativity but at this moment I feel that I understand my creativity from the point that I try to let my imagination and ideas run wild in a way that isn't boring but that I can understand within writing while also showing others my style of writing.

Advice #2: Too Analytical?

Part of my research from the content analysis project brought up and confirmed the research question that the audio/sound use of a video can alter the like/view count. In lieu of this, I brought up the vital tip that the audio a content creator uses is a unit to pay attention to. My question is if this slide is too analytical? Should I involve the chart which highlights the differences in audio interactions or should I maybe delete the entire slide and start over fresh? Does this slide look too much like a slide from the content analysis project or is it just casual enough that it could appeal to content creators? I wanted to add this slide in as a way to establish trust especially when I had written the guide for the creators I analyzed.

Ultimately, the goal is to create a slide that not only conveys the analytical findings but also resonates with your audience. Does the Intro explain too much/ too little?

I had about three separate introductions that I've tried and this is the one I eventually landed on. I think it explains the HTWG pretty well and shows the function of why it's made, who it's made for, and the platform and community the content will be shared. Something I am a bit unsure of is if the intro explains TOO much for an existing content creator, that they may feel like they know more than the guide, or that the guide is for new creators. I feel like sometimes when I explain I go into so much detail that it turns into rambling, and I want to really avoid that, especially in the beginning.

Content creation has been a struggle recently with classes wrapping up and being on vacation without wifi. However, I have gotten some today and I at least want to get 3-4 content examples done to submit my final How to Write Guide. This way I can continue to focus on it once I am back at home and school.

My second choice was the example I created. It has the basic steps on how to plan out how to want to create and grow your TikTok. Currently, the page feels a little empty so should I add some image examples to help the viewer better understand what is being talked about? One of the first areas that I wanted to add to my guide is the different types of content there is. I mostly included it to better help with my How to Write Guide since there are so many different areas that a person can venture into when first starting their content creation journey. Personally, I think so but others may vary with their answer. I focused on the main ones that I have seen throughout TikTok so keep the list down to the main three I have been seeing. With my chosen creators, they are within the Entertaining area and this has helped me thus far. The question I would like feedback on is, would you say this is useful?

One piece that I included in my guide is that when you are first starting out, yes the content does matter but if you want to reach an audience or create your own you need to start off with using hashtags and common ones that people will be searching when looking for content that is similar to yours or that is related directly to yours. In my guide I directly say...

Research trending and niche-specific hashtags for broader reach.

For example, the creators I am researching and collecting data from use hashtags that include #grwm, #fyp, and #relatable.

Incorporation of Created Content

The content I'm creating for my HTWG serves to provide my audience with visual examples of what content should look like, illustrating the fact that aesthetic measures should be taken to showcase just how much one cares about their content strategy, audience, and goals as a content creator. My inclusion both of a model for a filming setup as well as a thumbnail is an effective way to literally illustrate concepts that would be a bit hard to follow without any visual instructions. Yes, I could painstakingly define the parameters of what makes for a visually cohesive thumbnail and set, but the limited time of the audience I'm catering to would make this a bit of a tone-deaf inclusion. Beyond this, this content will solidify my audience's understanding of me as someone who knows what she's talking about.

What Did I Learn?

Regarding content strategy on Youtube, I mainly learned about the importance of a few key aspects of content creation: consistency, relevance, and awareness. The three creators I analyzed had a firm understanding of the proclivities of their audiences, maintaining a parasocial dynamic in the fact that they and their audiences shared some interests, beliefs, and participation in certain discourse communities (outside of Youtube). With this awareness came an understanding of what was considered to be relevant in these circles, circles they shared with their audiences. These channels mainly cover film, TV, and media through a progressive lens, so any topics that were considered to be "hot" when they were drafting their videos were taken into consideration when designing the content, drafting the content, and presenting the content. Beyond topics, entire structures of video and media properties covered were chosen according to relevance, cementing the fact that ANYTHING trending in any capacity would lead to higher viewership and engagement.
