Some highlights of the event
Week 13 // Food Event
The Food Event ran from 12-2pm on Monday the 16th. We had done lots of planning leading up to the event in order for it to be a success. My class (Shayna’s group) decided to set up our laptops in the middle of a long table so that they could each easily be viewed by an audience. Sound was an issue for some, however we overcame this by using headphones or keeping all sound low so as to be respectful to other films. I loved seeing all the other classes works and how their projects vastly differed from ours. The soft serve machine was definitely a highlight also.
Tacit Taste Film // Reflection
For this task I decided to merge a combination of stop motion and normal footage. I felt as though this was the best way to approach this as to me, the repetitive abruptness of stop motion reflected the process of creating my tacit taste (lots of chopping involved), while the footage of the boy eating the salad and the slow moving shots of the summer landscape reflect the feelings that I experience when eating fruit salad. The boy is representative of childhood, and how when experiencing my tacit taste, I am also taken back to that time. I was unable to post my video because it was too large, however I have posted some previews.
WEEK 13 FOOD EVENT
At the food event we finally assembled everyone’s recipes into the binder ‘recipe books’. Everyone got a yellow binder and Andy had made some stickers which we used to decorate our binder covers. After everyone had completed their binder covers we went around and put our recipes in each other binders.
It was really cool to see the recipe books come to life and to see everyone’s final projects!
I was really happy with classes outcome and it turned out to be much cooler than I originally thought.
After I had completed my recipe book I went around and looked at the other studios classes. The work was so amazing and the experiences that some studios provided were really good.
The soft serve ice-cream was a highlight as well.
Week 12 // Studio
This was our last studio session of the semester. Although I was unable to make it to the class, I heard that everyone showed their fantastic films in class. This was also the week that our final ‘Tacit Taste’ video was due, and so I spent the week editing and finalising my film.
Week 12 // Lecture
This was our final lecture Andy and so he discussed the Studio 1 project deadline and explained how the project will be assessed.
We also had an incursion from Tania, who explained her research on permaculture, systems Design, and co-design in her studio. I thoroughly enjoyed Tania’s talk and was surprised when she brought to my attention that yes, everything on earth that is sustainable is a cycle. I started thinking about how being a consumer and a part of a throwaway society is causing landfill to become ridiculously huge and rubbish to pollute the oceans. I knew this was a fact however it had never occurred to me that this was because it was not an effective cycle, where the outputs are subsequently another cycle’s inputs. It made me think back to Year 12 where I learnt about photosynthesis and cellular respiration and how these are some of Earth’s first cycles of sustainability and using one cycle’s outputs as another cycle’s inputs. Global warming and landfill are real problems and they need to be solved by designing new solutions and cycles.

Twenty-Fifty
‘Twenty-Fifty is a visual exploration of the global food crisis predicted for the year two thousand and fifty – a result of the inability of the earth’s natural resources to meet future demand. The project presents a series of eight data visualisation posters, each exposing one primary issue responsible for this future crisis. It looks closely at population growth, urbanisation, food production, food waste, genetic modification, climate change, consumption trends and agrobiodiverty as the main influential factors.
Through sourcing and photographing food that is representational of my own data visualisations, the project intends to both challenge and educate consumers about how the future may unfold.’

Week 11 // Studio
This week I filmed my video. I originally found it difficult to shoot the stop motion, however after a bit of adjusting, I managed to use sticky tape to suspend my camera from a light fitting. This allowed me to capture my stop motion from a birds eye view perspective, which was what my story board outlined.

Week 10 // Studio
In this studio we further refined how exactly we would shoot our films, taking into consideration any props and actors that we may require.
Week 10 // Lecture
This week we started by discussing the Week 13 Food Event. Andy spoke about all the different classes coming together on the day and how we needed to organise exactly how the day would run.
Week 9 // Lecture
This week’s lecture was spent discussing traditional copyright laws vs Open Source and Open Design initiatives. We explored the challenges of implementing sharing licences such as the Creative Commons. We also looked at a practical application of a Creative Commons licence in our 100 Questions project. We the spent the remainder of the lecture planning our year level’s 100 Questions book. The book ended up costing $7 and required everybody’s permission to include their question.
