Millie Tolliver was just a kid in a small Arkansa town, just on the cusp of graduating high school when her life changed. In the woods behind a friend's barn party, she and three other kids from Jasper came under attack by a werewolf, and while they managed to kill it, all four of them had their lives changed by its snapping jaws. Their own transformations drew the ire of hunters, and just as the four were about to get answers, their wolf-sire was killed, and their faces marked by the congregated hunters. Four wolves escaped Jasper Arkansas that night, covered in blood and scattered to the wind. Millie's been a drifter for the past twelve years, moving from small town to small town, living out of motels or her car when she has to. Everywhere she's tried to set down roots, she winds up bringing down too much attention when the wolf strikes too fiercely, and she makes a bloody mess of things. Maybe Port Leiry will be different - she's not the only wolf in town now. In fact, far from it; a chance meeting with Arte Ryan lands her a day job at Palmers, and further interaction teaches the two that they have more than work in common, and so she joins Eventide, finding a pack for the first time in her life as a werewolf.

Jeanette's family owned a big ranch on the edge of town that was the site of frequent parties in the Summer and Fall. It's not being scared that keeps her awake on the way out of town. Bruises fade, traumas scab over into ticks and bad memories. It's prospect. It's the thought that she's got a second chance, that Aurelia's not gonna follow her, at least for now. That Jasper, and what happened there, can die. It's a big world, and there can be plenty of space between them. She ain't ever gonna tell that bitch thanks, but she is a little thankful, all the same, because she could be dead, and she isn't.

Millie looks to the dash, where lil' Jeanette wobbles back and forth, the scars where ceramic's been glued together making her look a bit more like a lil' Millie than a lil' Jeanette.

Tolliver's eyes cross the dash, then, to the actual Jeanette, sleeping curled up in the passenger seat; she'd hoped to finish rebuilding the truck with Palmer and the others, but they've moved on, too. Hopefully to better things. She picks up a two liter of Baja Blast resting in the passenger's side footwell and unlids it, taking a big swig - clearing half the bottle before replacing it, tuning the old radio in on something that might pick her mood up.

She looks at where her phone rests in a cupholder, wedged in, and thinks about the text from Berto on Jeanette's phone.

"At least I extend a mercy to you that your victims never received" The ghost of charlie hanging heavy in the back of Aurelias mind, the gurgle that left his throat as he tried to breath after his encounter with the Jasper pack. The childish insult of 'Doofus' bounced off Aurelia with all the power of a fly buzzing through the air. There was a task at hand, retribution to be had, and a job that needed to be finished after years hanging in failure. A single minded focus consumed the hunters mind, finish the hunt. Spill the blood that was denied all those years ago.

It was instinct that drove Aurelia's movements. Years of training making each action automatic and fluid. The hunter kicked the knife that Millie had dropped down the hallway out of arms reach. Declawing the animal. Aurelias teeth clenched as the small wolf continued to chatter on.

"You think that washes the blood from your hands? A man is still dead by your hands By your very nature you will be driven to kill again, and again, and again. In that truth I feel sorry for you. However you will spill blood and continue to do so each time the full moon crests into the sky.It is the nature of the beast that resides in your skin. How many people people are you willing to murder out of your own selfish desire to keep walking through the world. How many people have paid in their own blood for you to keep living this messy, futile life?"

The monologue was enough time for Aurelia to remove her own knife from the wall, fleck of drywall scattered to the floor from the force in which Aurelia yanked the blade. The Damascus steal glinting under the florescent light of the malls back corridors. Aurelia set upon Millie with all the force her height, training and tattoos afforded her.

The thing about hunting werewolves there was always a choice to be made. If you hunted away from the full moon the level of danger they posed dropped significantly, however in the light of day it became much easier to mistake a wolf for a human. Aurelia could see it in Millies eyes. The fear. The Pain. The imitation of humanity. It was enough to cause Aurelia to falter just enough.

The knife slide into Millie lower than Aurelia had intended it. Moving from the heart into the side. A deadly blow diverted into something more painful, but something that would leave Millie breathing.

It's a lot you know. It's a whole lot to have the past come knocking - no, chasing. And she can see it like it was yesterday, twelve years ago just a few seconds ago. All of them, twisting and turning, less and less people and more monsters.

The hunters hadn't been ready because they hadn't been ready, and by the time anyone knew which way was up? Lot of dead motherfuckers, lot of angry living motherfuckers, and four scared kids, scattered into the wind.

Millie backs away, thinks maybe she can go for the knife, but Kennedy kicks it behind her, starts squawking, all gnashing teeth and vitriol that makes the diminutive werewolf wonder which one of 'em is the big scary monster here.

"I didn't fuckin, mean it!" She says. "I didn't do it on purpose, none of us did!"

She's cornered, and she's cornered here and she's gonna fuckin' die here maybe. She doesn't wanna die here because when you die you shit and piss yourself and she had a really big lunch and she ain't about that level of embarrassment if there's an afterlife. She thinks like that because the potty humor, its funny, and it usually makes her feel better, laughing in the face of danger, but this feels different. This feels like ain't nothing gonna make it funny.

She starts to protest again, because what the fuck is she supposed to do, kill herself because she drew a bad hand? But any sort of question's cut short when the Hunter lunges, and Millie feels her legs crumble out from under her, feels something punch inside of her, and at first it's just a knife. She's been stabbed into before - antlers, claws, teeth, hell, knives too. But then she feels that caustic hellfire and she knows its folded silver sticking in her guts.

Millie's small though, real small, and she doesn't wanna die, and she's pawing at the woman, even while her eyes burn gold behind tears welling up out of the sting while she feels blood start running out of her along with the fight.

"I didn' mean to kill your friend, man." she says, and it's a small, whiney voice, all the brave and all the feral plum-used up. "We didn't. We were kids, man... please don't kill me," She coughs, because it hurts real bad. "Or do, or do and leave the resta my friends alone, man."

It's hard to swallow that last thing, and she uses what little strength she's got of the wolf in her, burned by silver now, to throw Aurelia off as she scrambles back, clutching at her bleeding gut. "I... I-I'on't wanna die... man, not here."

Codie stares because she knows magic is real, but she's never heard of transmo-- transfo-- shapeshifting being real before. She's almost too stunned to say anything to it, but she believes Millie, and that's the crazy part. She hopes she's not gonna get her hand stuck in something that turns her into a worm. The idea makes her frown.

"Like the fairy tale." She laughs, hoping for Millie's sake that it was true. Cause, at the very least, everyone deserves a little chance at true love.

She snickers a little at the 'Al' thing, but at the same time makes a mental not to note do that to the guy if she ever meets him. She leans over and looks at the scar and nods, while shoving food into her mouth. "How'd you get stuck up like that?" Another bite of food down the hatch, "Oh - I moved over to Harford. Yeah, I mostly cuz I met this guy Lucas at the gala who's also from 'round where I am and the girl I like's real close to the Alpha. It's been chill. Otherwise just workin' at Doughfellas and doing errands for Ma."

"Iono, just... got me. Sometimes shit just gets ya, you know?"

Millie's been got as good as she's gotten by wildlife in her time as a werewolf - it's just kind of how it happens sometimes.

She nods a little lightly as the decision Codie's made; Eventide's a little loose-knit, especially without a guiding hand to pull it along, people drift in and out of it; it's half of why she'd fallen in with them to begin with; not much commitment, just wolves helping each other when and while they need it. She hopes Codie finds what she needs in the new group, and if not, that she doesn't root herself where she ain't gotta be.

"Yeah, work work work, amirite. I gotta do a double tomorrow, gonna be an eighteen hour day." She shrinks at the notion.

She bumps a shoulder into Codie's. "Either way, don't be a stranger, yeah?"

“It’ll definitely be a battle scar.” He grins, pushing calm lightheartedness into his voice as a way to comfort her.

The injection is quick and he allows time for the numbing agent to take effect. It will help a lot but this process will still be uncomfortable. The real pain would come after. In the healing.

As soon as the site is numb he gets to work. He settles into a cycle. Open, drain, rinse. Open, drain, rise. He has to make sure all the infection is out before he can apply new stitches, but the days old wound is full of the pockets of pus.

It takes time, and Millie is fidgety, as anyone is want to be. He tries to joke throughout the process, but he is focused. When the wound is clean and pus free he then starts applying medicine and beginning the stitch up. Again a weird process. By the time the bandages and re applied, its been almost 45 minutes.

“Hey Millie, I thiinnkk we are almost done here. How are you feeling?”

"Hell yeah," she says - putting on her best big brave dog face.

She thinks about cool shit while he gets to work, gripping onto something and chewing down on her lip. She thinks about... the books she's gotta get read, the way she found JB or JB found her and now there's this whole big new possibility that they can see Berto and Z again. How that deer that jabbed her probably tasted real good but she doesn't remember it because wolf brain's always fuzzy on the in-between.

"Man fuck that deer, man, for real." She grits her teeth at a painful bit of tug and pinch.

Still, Al is cool. He makes jokes - and Millie loves a guy who's got jokes even when shits a bit messy.

"Feel like I just got a bunch of stuff snipped and stitched my man," She says as she tries to bend to look before realizing how stupid that was, hissing a bit. "But better... ish."

She stands up, wincing a bit before she offers her off-hand for a fist bump. "Thanks a load."

Jasper has been the first hunt Aurelia had ever been apart of, grief still fresh and the marching orders of the military still ran in her brain. She had hesitated, the young faces pulled on everything she had promised to protect. The mercy had only been paid in blood. The dying gasps leaving Charlie's mouth as Aurelia desperately trying to stop the bleeding from his missing throat was permanently ingrained into her nightmares. Death was all that would come from trying to connect with the beasts.

It had been a pure coincidence Aurelia had spotted the little wolf at all. She had been at the mall to get her new boots, something completely mundane to the point she had very little of her normal hunting tools on her. That wouldn't stop the hunter however. Mildred had escaped Aurelia all those years ago and she was not about to let it happen again, tools be damned. The hunter walked with purpose through the mall, stalking her prey with lazer focus. She couldn't make a move when surrounded by people, so when the little wolf ducked into the service hallway it was perfect.

Aurelia followed shortly after the younger women broke through the door. Calmly turning to lock it behind her. It would be best if they were not interrupted, she would not loose this prey, not again. Aurelia pulled her knife out from its holster on her belt. "if you come out I will make it quick." It was the one mercy she was willing to give, no reason to draw it out even after all these years

Aurelia moved silently down the hall, approaching the corner. When she was within arms lengths she struck out like a snake, blindly slamming the knife into the wall around the corner where she suspected Mildred head to be. The knife sinking into the plaster close to the hilt. Aurelia growled deep in her throat as she went to yank it free, her empty hand reaching out to grab the scrappy werewolf.

"Now why the fuck would I come out then, be for real, doofus!"

She holds her own knife up, close in, flat to her chest, and tries to open her ears, to gauge how close the hunter is. She's moving - she might be a soft step, but Millie can smell her, hear her breath.

She waits just a beat too long though, to get the drop, and her stinkin' phone lights up with a text message, giving Aurelia the giveaway. Millie ducks under the knife and scrambles, almost on all fours in a roadie-run as she tries to put space, but she feels fingers clutch and wrap around her jacket as she clambers, her arm getting yanked back with a force that only a hunter could have on a werewolf.

"Ack!"

Her own knife clatters to the floor and Millie rips her hand free and turns, hands out defensively.

"Bro, just leave me alone! We didn't even do it on purpose!"

Codie lets Millie grab what she wants - leaves the rest for others to grab as they want, and makes sure she has enough to get going before she plops down right across the from the scrappy wolf. She's got a pile of chili cheese fries and a foot long that she immediate starts to chow on while Millie starts in on the conversation.

She has to forcibly swallow half a bite down to get a word in.

"Alcide?" She don't know him, really. But she makes a note to see if she can run into him and see what about him Millie thinks is jerky - but then the idea of this girl getting turned into a frog makes her stop mid chew and stare at her.

"Sorry - you - hol' up." She sets the hot dog down, "Frog?"

"Fuck yeah, a frog! I tried to pinch this little hair-clip for Jeanette, lesbian that I am, and poof! Woosh! I'm a fuckin' frog, naked as a... well a frog."

She shakes her head, and her expression sinks like somebody seeing a war flashback. "Legit got chased around but a crazy priest guy, and then some huge woman kissed me and I fell down her friend's shirt and he threw me out a window, and then when I got back in another person scooped me up and put me in a bathroom, and then I had ta find my way to Jeannie and then Idono, at some point it just wore off - I like to think it was 'cus she kissed me y'know. Like the fairy tail."

"Anyways. Yeah. Alcide. I call him Al. I don't think he likes it so I'ma keep doing it 'til he does like it. Like a science experiement, for real. He ain't all bad - I got stuck on by a dear the other night and he fixed me up. She shows the scar on her shoulder to Codie; the stitches are healed but the marks still fading. "Still, kinda jerky though. What you up to lately?"

He does not like being called Al.

But in the short time he’s known Millie, he’s found that his annoyance at the nickname was outweighed by his fear that Millie would try to fight God and then heal her wounds by rolling down in the dirt somewhere. And while it would not technically be his fault if she did that…he would know. So. The quarrel over the nickname had now become a quarrel over what an emergency was.

He still wasn’t comfortable being part of the pack but he had taken to spending some time each week at the Alley so members, like Millie, might actually seek the medical attention they needed.

He did not think he was succeeding but…tant pis.

“I know its hard but try and hold still.” A deer would make sense but as he felt along the wound he could feel the pockets of pus that had embedded themselves underneath the gash that should’ve had stitches. But this is Millie they were talking about. But right now the main priority was the infection.

“So, bad news and good news. The good news,” and he reached into his bag to pull out a syringe and a bottle of a topical numbing agent, “you get to do drugs. Bad news,” and he let the little bit of joy he had injected into his tone turn a little more serious, “I am going to have to reopen and completely flush the wound.”

He searched her face for any signs that she would run from the treatment trying to silence the barely breathing optimistic part of himself that was hoping she’d say yes, “You game?”

"Man I'm tryin!" She says, more whine than yell. His touching at it makes her face twitch and grit her teeth at the hot and tight soreness. She doesn't feel gross, and really, werewolfism would probably chase it off eventually, but not before it got worse.

She's not saying Jeanette made her ask him, but she's not not saying Jeanette made her ask. Even if JB didn't, she probably would have eventually, so here she sits, and her head turns. "Oh Drugs? Like good shit? Hell yea Al, hook me up."

"Oh-" follows with the bad news part. "Well, gotta do it, right?"

Millie's back is a mess of cross-hatched scars, a bunch of little stories of narrow escapes and poorly-managed curiosity. All of her is, really. Shit hurts, but really, she's a werewolf - somethin' is always hurting, so whats a little slice and dice at this point.

"If it's gonna get stitched up is it at least gonna look cool?"

29. What kind of activities, interests, and hobbies do they have? What significance and impact do these have in their lives, both positive and negative?

Millie's a tinkerer. She likes making things, kitbashing stuff together. Little makeshift sculptures or tools or fixing things up like cars or the stuff like that. She learned a lot of the skills that go into this after she went on the run, because before that she was just sort of a local yokel without any real defining talents. Fixing things makes her feel good, and gives her a bit of a sense of control over things even if they're broken.

38. Is there anything they wish they could change about their worldview or thought processes? What, and why?

Millie wishes she could get herself to a place where she doesn't constantly feel like she has to be ready to pick up and leave at the drop of a hat. She's been running around the country for twelve years and no matter how much she grows to like the people somewhere or how settled in she seems to get, she's always afraid and always ready to pull up stakes and high-tail it to the next place.

The amount of bags in her hands was almost comical, towering up and over her head - filled with piles and piles of take out plates filled with burgers and fries and hot dogs and whatever else she could find that was still open. When she makes it over to where Millie is, she practically has to maneuver to set them down like a damn tetris puzzle.

"Hey! Wanted to stop by before heading out over to the park, grab a bite with ya." She hasn't had a chance to talk to Millie much, but she thinks she's a good time regardless.

"Figured we could talk shit while we grub?"

Millie says with vigor, bouncing forward from where she'd been reading some bit of smutty paperback, book forgotten as she tries to direct Codie in setting down the piles, but she doesn't wait to fish out an armful of grub that she carries back to her seat in a slung, bent elbow like it's a newborn.

"Talk shit on who? You know that guy Alcide? He's kinda jerky, we could talk shit on him. Or like, this guy at the fuckin'... the fucking Gala thing who saw me get turnt into a frog and then was like yea lemme eat that. Talk shit on that guy all day. Fuckin' vampires, man, fuck off, for real, f'real."

The heavy door into the service hallways of the mall burst open and she eats shit as she turns the corner, slipping and sliding along the smooth stone surface before scrambling, her boots squeaking as she recovers - barely - before breaking out into a full sprint, swinging around another corner and smashing her back against the wall to catch her breath, peering around the corner to see if she's got a second.

Aurelia Kennedy. Millie ain't got a sleep paralysis demon, per se, but if she did it'd be that psycho hose-beast.

Jasper was 12 years ago, and now it's fuckin' spotted her and chasing her through the mall. Oh god, oh god.

She's not sure what it is, that makes her search out stupid shit when she's wolf-mode, but damn if it ain't always embarassing. She's used to patching herself up when she needs to, too - whatever wolf-juice can't handle anyways.

Millie's body is a story, a patchwork of digs and divots and punctures and scratches from close calls with animals and hunters and any number of other things earned over twelve years of rough living and wingin' it. Reckless is a good word.

It's a big old cut down her back that's healed funny though, and it hurts. "I think a deer got me, iono feels bad though. Aaaaaaah Hahaha." the laugh isn't a funny laugh its a if I don't laugh I'll cry kinda laugh while Al - she calls him Al and whether he likes that or not it's kinda stickin' in her brain - works on it. Her hands grip at the back of the chair, making the wood groan in her grip.

Whatever, beats being a frog.

He was taking his sweet time, again. As if kicking him in the shin the first had little to no affect on that himbo. What was taking him so long? It was pathetic, really — the slowest she had ever seen a vampire move in all her centuries of fabulous existence.

Frankie’s fingers snapped — once, twice, thrice! —like a diva, sharp enough to draw looks from half the room. Her lips pursed into a perfect little pout of disdain. "Oh, mon vieux, is that arthritis catching up with you already?" a dangerous little singsong. "Hurrryy up!"

Her dark gaze remained riveted to the slimy little thing clutched in her hand, as though she was cradling a crown jewel and not some unfortunate amphibian. If she even blinked, the vampire was convinced this slippery little creature would seize its chance to wriggle free and ribbit ribbit its way straight into obscurity, robbing her of her moment.

And Frankie was nothing if not a woman of moments.

Fingers tightened just a little more, a little possessive squeeze that made its tiny heart drum even louder and a pitiful squeak croak out of it. "This could be a prince, or a princess, or — oh, imagine, like a marquis of the underworld, wouldn't that be exciting, babes?" if a single peck of her blood red lips on that poor green froggy mouth turned it into a two-legged meat stick with a crown, then she better damn well get to keep it.

"Hush now," almost offhand, a velvet command to Garrick without even looking at him. He wasn’t allowed an opinion tonight. He’d forfeited it when he showed up late and not in pink.

Then she dipped her head and pressed her lips to the slick, cold skin of the frog’s little crown. For a heartbeat, nothing happened. That pretty pout, the one Garrick knew too damn well, turned full force on him, disappointment curling her mouth downward. So she tried again. And again. And again, each kiss more insistent than the last, her little noises of irritation growing louder and more absurd until at last, the squishy little beast gave a mighty, desperate wiggle and popped right out of her hands.

It landed with a wet little flump straight into Garrick’s shirt.

Frankie doubled over, laughter spilling out of her, while she clutched her stomach and gasped for breath. The way its soft little belly had slapped his nose was chef’s kiss.

"Garrick—" she cried, between fits of cackling. "Froggy chose you! You’ve been chosen, babes! You gotta kiss it now! It must be true love! Come on, mon cœur, don’t leave your little frog hanging — kiss it!"

Garrick rolls his eyes at her shrieking, but there's a smile that doesn't match his disbelief. Even time apart, little has changed about her; she's still hungering for attention and fulfilment. A woman who craves and desires the spotlight. Garrick's always been fine handing that over to her; he's better in the shadows of a city. She wants to celebrate the victory at the end of the strip, he wants to vanish yet leave the memory of who he is. But he doesn't know what torturous thing she might do to the frog, and he should have expected the New Orleans deja vu as he nears her. A marquis of the underworld. If only they'd be so damn lucky.

There's been enough instances of amphibians in his life, he ain't too shocked to know that Frank's disappointment in lip locking with a frog comes as a given. No laughter, or mocking of her excitement. Merely a look that reads how her excitement is misplaced. He can't taste the magic in the air, like he can the blood. But he knows the room is filled with folk who would play every kind of trick on those who ain't paying attention.

He grimaces when the wet thing slaps his face, then drops to grip his shirt. He closes his eyes and wipes once at the slippery residue left behind.

"Ain't that lovely." It's a drivel of sarcasm. He's at least grateful the slimy bugger hadn't landed in his rum. It might've gotten itself stuck.
