“Oh, you’re completely right. I’m glad I didn’t have to be the one to say that…” Kenna pauses before continuing. “The thing is, modelling isn’t about ‘being you’. It’s about getting to not be you for a little bit. That’s the beauty of it. For a second you get to be that girl. The one everyone’s looking at… the one everyone wants.” She sighs thoughtfully. “And you make hella bank if you’re good. I mean, I’m not really in it for the money – obviously – but it helps. It’s nice to get free clothes and be invited to cool parties and get flown to Paris and meet celebrities… You can be all high and mighty and shit about it, but it’s a limited time offer, sweetie. You’re not young and beautiful forever. You’re modeling career isn’t supposed to be some grand expression of your soul. You can say no, but my aunt can find a million other girls. You’re not special. I can tell you from experience that modeling will remind you that again and again and again.” Kenna stares off into the distance for a moment, lost in her thoughts. “But it’s worth it. There’s nothing in the world like it.” She shrugs surveying the dismal downtown area around them. “I mean, unless you have something better to do.”

Milo did her best to forgo about the nasty remarks floating out of Kenna’s mouth. She probably didn’t mean them; Kenna was just a tease. Once she had finished her little speech, Milo gave her a curt nod and started in to the grocery store. Kenna was just confirming everything Milo had thought about modeling. She needed the money -- horribly, actually -- but she didn’t know if she would be able to take everything that came with it. She was so sick of thinking about it though, so instead she chose to talk (and think) about anything else. “So, do you really never shop for yourself?”

while in the midst of a major study session, kiley realized that she was out of coffee. with a huge upcoming test the following monday, she knew that she would need all the caffeine that she could get. so, she decided to make a quick trip to her favorite coffee shop to stock up on supplies. the whole city was crowded that day as the final rush of tourists flooded the beaches before the weather got too cold. yet, kiley managed to get in and out of the store within half an hour, leaving her to find her car in the full parking lot. as her eyes scanned the area, she noticed a familiar face pass by.”hey, milo!” she called out, yet no response availed from the girl. “oh, sorry. you dropped this.” she said after milo spun around, offering the item out towards her.

her eyes scanned kiley with intensity, only noting the wallet that must have fallen out of her back pocket a moment later. she could barely control herself from the heavy breathing or the increased heart rate -- milo was just absolutley horrible at keeping track of herself in those instaces. however, sooner or later she was able to calm herself down and force out a smile. “oh, thanks kiley. you’re a life-saver.”

Kenna frowns as Milo backs away. Why would Milo back away? Did Kenna look or smell terrible? Had Kenna’s popularity fell to such lows that even Milo Vega didn’t want to be seen in public with her? It’s not like this was abnormal - Milo always seemed to prefer keeping physical distance – but it was impossible for Kenna to see it as anything but an attack on her personhood. Kenna smiles – it was kind of cute to see Milo wearing overall non-ironically. “I guess overall can be hip, in that, like, 90s tumblr sort of way.” Kenna twirls her hair around her finger – maybe she needed to be more like Milo. Maybe that would make her more “relatable” and “interesting”.

“Grocery store? I haven’t heard” – Kenna stops herself mid-sentence, realizing that “the grocery store” wasn’t going to be the hip name of some pop-up club hosting a daytime rave. “Oh. Like grocery store, grocery store? Like to buy food?” Kenna shifts the five different shopping bags she was holding. She had never been grocery shopping. Usually the help took care of those things. “Oh, that’s such good timing then!” She claps excitedly. “I’ll come and help you! We can buy some healthy food so you can lose that baby fat before you sign!” Kenna giggles. “Have you thought about that, by the way? About signing, I mean.”

For a minute or two, Milo could have been fooled. She really figured that Kenna might actually want to spend time with her. But the more she talked, the more it seemed as though snakes slithered from her mouth. She peered down at herself, as if to look for the baby fat that Kenna was talking about. Baby fat was good -- wasn’t it? Unable to take much time to think, she looked back up and sighed. “I’ve thought about it.” Not much, but she couldn’t say she hadn’t. “I just don’t know if it’s really me.” Never really being a fan of the spotlight, she couldn’t imagine herself being the center of attention. And she definitely couldn’t imagine being stripped down. That was a no-go.

sleep headcanon -- 

she had a routine. lock the door. check the windows. check to make sure the door is locked again. brush teeth. go into room and lock door. sleep. and even then, she’s laying as far away from the door as she can. her older problems really fucked her up, and she fell into a pattern right after it happened. 

cooking headcanon -- 

milo isn’t much of a chef. she likes watching cooking shows, but doing any of the recipes off of said shows is a big no-go. it’s not like she can’t cook. she just prefers to stick to the simpler things for the sake of time. plus, then she knows what she’s eating. 

hobbies headcanon -- 

the last one was more of an example, and this is more of an explanation, i think. milo really likes to do things that calm her down: mind, body, and spirit. so really anything you can think of to do that would calm down somebody -- she’s done. among her other favorites: listening to rain outside, playing a round of golf, and having late night conversations with zak.

⊕ hobbies headcanon -- 

there’s something about watching the sun set that relaxes milo to no avail. maybe it’s the reminder that a day is ending, meaning that a new one is coming soon. or maybe it’s that she can always be left alone when she’s watching the waves lap up in to the horizon. completely in her own element, milo is given time to reflect on her day without starting to panic that someone is getting too close. 

ϡ mental state headcanon -- 

not only are her hinges loose -- the door is gone. she likes to think of herself as levelheaded, but one wrong bump into a stranger and milo can shut herself down for hours. the entire incident that caused this is something she refuses to accept some days. other days, she spends hours and hours researching what to do. no one ever told her. no one ever helped her. so, she pushed it inside. milo doesn’t like to admit that though, so often times she’ll just pretend she gets tired and needs to go home to be alone if something goes wrong.  

† religion headcanon -- 

in almost every foster family she was in, she had to church with the family every sunday. through all the different services she had to go to, she found the mormon one the most entertaining. maybe it was that the stories were so absurd, but they made the hour long service go by faster. and when that family pushed her away, she still kept her book of mormon around to giver a few kicks every now and then.

“ you’re kidding, right? ” she laughed while her cheeks blossomed into a vibrant red. of course there was someone, but her lips were sealed – and so were her thoughts. she refused to even think their name in fear that someone could read minds. “ i would prefer not to say. it could get back to them. ” it probably would. “ you can ask me anything else, but don’t make me talk about them. i’ll just end up gushing too much. ”

What’s an essential childhood experience that you missed out on?

“ i never learned how to ride a bike. ” milo confessed. “ and none of my foster parents thought i should learn. but seeing all these people on boardwalk riding them makes me want to learn still. ”

“ i always thought my mom was a trapeze artist and my dad was a ring leader at one of the last big circuses in the nation. and they’re loving. they just couldn’t keep me because they didn’t want me to live on the road but they loved their careers too much. ”

typically, zakariah didn’t go out of his way to approach people. almost every time he had ended in a fake smile plastered across his face by the mention of his family name, or an eye roll that damn near left him blind by its swift motion because of a poor suggestion. either way, people weren’t exactly zak’s forte and he wasn’t ever one for throwing himself in situations where he knew he would fail. despite the square footage of the summer home, the walls felt constricting and zak needed some space to breathe. he’d been walking aimlessly when he spotted a familiar face, and it was only instinct for him to reach out for her, his hand moving a split second faster than his head had been to stop it. “sorry.” the word’s almost stuttered out and it’s soon followed by more. “i didn’t mean to scare you. i just saw you and— first reaction, you know? sorry.”

her heartbeat was too fast for her liking, and milo wasn’t really sure whether or not she could forgive whoever had touched her. while she frantically tried to get herself back together, she let her eyes glance up to the assailent. “oh,” milo breathed out after seeing zak. “it’s -- it’s alright.” it wasn’t, but she wouldn’t be rude and let him know that. he only did it on accident. touching wasn’t on milo’s ‘list of likes’, but she hadn’t gotten to share that with him yet. he didn’t know. a quick sweep of herself, milo noted the shaking hands and tucked them into her shorts to avoid any stares or questions. “you’re fine.” a little smile was forced in his direction, “i’m just always a little jumpy -- i guess that means with you too.” milo preffered not to have to touch anyone ( and vise-versa) if she didn’t have to, and whenever she was hanging out with zak, their arrangments always seemed to work out where she was a good three or four feet across from him. even now, she was trying to figure a way to give a little more space between them without making it obvious.

Bored as hell, Kenna had taken upon herself to go shopping, which usually resulted in her getting even more depressed because it was Seaport, Maine – not exactly the fashion hub of the world. She was about to call it a day and cab back home in time to fit in a midday work-out when she saw Milo amidst a throng of people. Kenna had to give it up to her aunt, she definitely had an eye; Milo was gorgeous and she stood out. Kenna strides over in her Prada kitten heels, pushing through the crowd with her shopping bags. “Milo!” Kenna shouts. “What are you going here? I haven’t heard from you all day!” Kenna leans in to kiss her friend on either cheek. “You look amazing, but the outfit you chose is fucking terrible. Let’s go shopping. I can buy you something that doesn’t look like it came off the sale rack at K-Mart.”

The kisses on the cheeks were not welcomed. She felt like her bubble of personal space was being popped. Not even Rowan was allowed to get this close to her, so of course she made sure to take a few steps back. When Milo peered down at her attire -- a pair of overalls she had cut the legs off of -- she pondered whether or not she should tell Kenna that she actually did get these from K-Mart’s clearance rack. “That’s very generous of you, Kenna.” Milo replied, tucking her hands into her pockets. Ever since being offered the modeling job (which she wasn’t quite sure she was ready to take), Kenna had been around her a lot. They weren’t exactly friends. Milo wasn’t quite sure what they could be called, though. “I was just heading towards the grocery store-”
