maybe you don’t know, but i used to be a tattoo artist. it kind of stopped when covid came along, the long break had a negative effect on my confidence and i started to get a bit paranoid about working with needles.

sometimes i miss it, the time spent designing tattoo flash and thinking up different projects, it could be really fun. it was always a real privilege to tattoo people too, i still think about everyone who has a piece of my art on their skin, it’s like we’re linked through time forever, even if we might never see each other again. spending time with each person and learning about their lives was a really cool experience, manipulating someone’s skin for a few hours can be a pretty intimate process!

anyhow, i come back to designs i still have a soft spot for from time to time, so that they can live again in another form. these stickers packs are a part of that, a piece of my personal art history that i got to share with so many others, that taught me a lot and that i might pick up again one day, who knows?

My birthday this year was rainy and grey, and I went for a hike in the forests of Fontainebleau. Not long after arriving, whilst making my way up a rocky hill, I saw a large dog bounding up through the bushes towards me. It was a great big German Shepherd, who was barking and making a fuss over nothing. He started snapping at my legs and wrapped his teeth around one. I think I should’ve been more panicked, but I was very calm in the moment. Without too much thought, I opened my umbrella and started pushing him back with it, until he eventually left and went back down the hill.

Next thing, I can hear a voice shouting things in German. Turns out the shepherd really was German! His owner arrives and tells us that his dog thought I was a horse, and wanted me to get off the rocks. He didn’t seem too worried that he had my leg in his mouth. Ok.

Then he led me to a strange bush he found in a tree.

Pretty good birthday really.
