Synopsis: Fate doesn’t care about your plans. Everything happens when it’s supposed to, whether or not you have control of it. You knew he was dangerous. You saw it from the very moment your paths crossed — the way he carries himself, how heads turn as he appears, and the way fear shows in the eyes of those who know him. He lives in a world surrounded by destruction and sin. He had even warned you about the darkness. The dangers. The violence. If only you had realized he was speaking of his own.
“No, babe, don’t worry about it. I can walk home,” you softly said as your heels clicked with each step down the cobblestone street. You could hear the defeat in your boyfriend’s voice as he let you have your way. It was now 10:45 pm and he was working the late shift. He just started his new job, and it was unfair for you to depend on him all the time. “Yes, the welcome party was terrific. I can’t wait to start on Monday,” you beamed thinking of how you finally landed your internship.
It had been your dream to become a police officer ever since you were a child. Your father, a well-known officer, was the best in the field. He saved many lives and put down many criminals during his time. Growing up, it was only the two of you, but he wasn’t around much because of the long hours he spent on cases. Despite that, he still tried his best to make time for you. You and your father were very close. The day you found out he had died on the field was the day your world shattered. It took you months to collect yourself and finally convince yourself that life was worth living.
“Y/N are you there?” You hear your boyfriend whisper through the phone. You pull yourself out of your thoughts, replying “yes.”
“I have to go now. Text me when you make it home. And stay out of the alleyways,” your boyfriend hurriedly says before ending the call. Tucking your phone back into your purse your eyes find something stuck against the bottom of your heel. Bending your leg, you try to pull the piece of paper off your heel only to end up losing your balance and falling into a bush on the side of the street. “Ow fuck,” you shout, pushing yourself out of the branches and leaves before you burst into a fit of giggles.
“I just fell into a bush,” you whisper to yourself still not able to contain your laughter. Dusting yourself off you reach down, grabbing the piece of paper that almost made you break your neck. Squinting you realize it’s a photo that’s torn down the middle with numbers and a letter written on the bottom.
What could that mean? The picture showed the beautiful Trevi Fountain from Rome, Italy in the background. A frown fell onto your face as you wondered why someone would rip the image.
“I believe that’s mine,” a deep gravelly voice mutters behind your ear. A chill runs down your spine as you stand there frozen.
