artie paused in his speech when their teacher bid them goodbye. when she left the room, he burst into his own set of giggles. “oh yeah, she absolutely adores you,” he joked as he slung his arm through the strap of his mat and then followed her out the door. artie mulled over mina’s suggestion for coffee for a moment. he wasn’t exactly uncomfortable around her – he had known this girl practically his entire life and while he did feel the occassional sting of hurt when he thought about everything that had transpired between them, he didn’t exactly feel weird. or maybe he did and he didn’t know how to put it into the right words. either way, he could handle some coffee with mina. “coffee sounds good. you’re buying,” he grinned, trying to remain light-hearted. it stung to see how unsure and hesitant she was with him. it was good in a way that she hadn’t forgotten how lucky she was that he was willing to forgive her, but it also hung over them like an unaddressed rain cloud.
mina’s smile widened as artie accepted her suggestion, and felt the anxiety lessen somewhat. “great,” she exclaimed, and tugged at his sleeve to get him to follow. “and of course i’m buying, it was my suggestion.” there was a lot she wanted to talk about, but mostly she wanted them to get some sort of normalcy back in their every day life. it would take time, but mina was willing to work for it, and she felt like she could without crumbling like she would’ve done in the past. if anyone had pushed back even the slightest mina would’ve completely fallen apart. slightest criticism would’ve made her unable to sleep and it would’ve been added to a long list of things she would avoid to do again. a small, read; huge, part of her was surprised she wasn’t deep into the depressive state she had been in so many times before. maybe it was because she had finally started to get help, and had people around her that genuinely wanted her to succeed. maybe it was because she knew artie was truly good for her and nothing would hurt as much as losing him permanently. while trying to ease up the tension in her own body, mina grinned widely as she continued to talk. “i can already tell this will be hell tomorrow. this is what i get for being healthy. if i can’t move will you come save me?”
