i worked at a natural history-type store for a while and one time this mom came in with her sweet little boy and he was asking intelligent questions and she was giving zero-information answers and i was able to not pipe up in my shrill hectoring voice until she confidently informed him that "snakes dont have bones". she was standing next to a shoulder-high specimen of this:
I've a friend who worked at a zoo. She (or a coworker, I don't remember) was once asked:
"So this may be a stupid question, but lions are the male ones and tigers the females, right?"

Tumblr is an apartment complex with thin walls and every so often you just have to listen to your neighbors say the most deranged shit imaginable
One time this man approached me in a bar talking in Spanish. So I assumed he was Spanish and we started speaking, we had a whole ass conversation and at some point he was like. So what part of Spain are you from? And I said well I’m Italian actually. What part of Spain are you from? And he was like. I’m Greek.
One time I was in Argentina and I was so tired of trying to speak Spanish because I’m not very good at it lmao so I broke into exasperated English and the retail seller girl quickly understood me and engaged me in conversation. We talked for a while, she introduced me to a makeup brand, and then I decided to buy it. While she was packaging the purchase, she asked me if I were from the US or perhaps the UK and I just said “oh no I’m Brazilian hahah” and she looked me straight in the eyes and said, in clear Portuguese, “I’m Brazilian too”
When my dad went to China on a work trip, his Mandarin speaking wasn’t great but his listening was fine (his first language is Cantonese) and he encountered a German guy who had moved to China to work. My dad knew how to speak German because he studied it in university (but wasn’t great when it came to listening to new vocab he hadn’t studied before), and the German guy knew Mandarin because he lived and worked in China, so they had a conversation where my dad spoke to the German guy in German and the guy responded in Mandarin. I’m sure it confused a lot of their coworkers who just saw the Asian guy speaking German and the white guy speaking Mandarin.
Some years ago, I worked for a manufacturing company that had a service depot in China. One of the engineers from the main office here in the US spent most of his time at the depot. The problem was that he didn’t speak *any* of the various Chinese languages, and no one at the depot spoke any English. They all, however, spoke Spanish.

Well you see. The ingredience for wine are:
-yeast
-sugar
-time
And it turns out the yeast aren't really that picky about what kind of sugar you give them, as long as there's enough of it

It ended up tasting kinda like a very mild, sweet white wine, with a faint but unmistakable aftertaste of marshmallow
The 100% true and honest answer is someone said the phrase "fermented peeps" around me at exactly the right time and I went "ohhh that's a sin I simply must commit"
The stars have aligned. It's time for another experiment
This is what four pounds of raspberry and blackberry candy looks like. If you care
Honestly we could stop here and say it's wine and I think we could convince some people. But we won't be doing that
And we're off! The yeasts are doing their thing chowing down on the sugars in the candy. My only concern is, I don't know if they can get into the gelatin gumdrop part of the berry, and I'm not sure how much of the promised sugar content is locked inside there. But we'll see what happens! It already smells amazing
Update time!
I noticed the airlock had normalized out and went whoops, because I intended to take my next step before the yeast stopped being active, but it's fine, I'll explain in a bit. I racked it into a new bottle to get it off the yeast-and-food-coloring gunk, and the volume I got was kind of disappointing because so much of the volume was taken up with the gumdrops and the liquid level was much lower than I'd like
So after that, I rinsed the remaining volume to get the dead yeast and other unwanted stuff off, then mashed it into a fine paste between my fingers to make it more digestible to any yeasts that might remain. Racking can sometimes restart a ferment, so I'm cautiously optimistic, and if not? Well, I'm just gonna dump another packet of yeast and another bag or two of candy in. It's not something I've done before but I don't think there's any rule against it!
And finally, I got to taste some of it. Holy shit y'all this is AMAZING
It tastes almost like this stupid expensive raspberry dessert wine I got back when I used to work at a bougie grocery store. Also, it didn't lose any color at all and I can't decide if that's delightful or terrifying. But I'm really happy with how it's coming along!

Well okay let's do this
The flavor is indescribable. It's like if you wanted to make lemon preserves but your only knowledge of lemons came from Saturday morning cartoon advertising. This is lemon as seen through the lens of Dr. Wondertainment of SCP fame and I'm pretty sure it fell through a rip in spacetime from their employee cafeteria. It's !!LEMON!! (with a strong aftertaste of artificial coloring and plastic from the edible glitter bits)
The texture is exactly how I always imagined it would be to eat aloe vera gel out of the brightly-colored bottle in my mom's bathroom
Overall 6/10, I'm gonna finish the waffle but fuck knows what I'm gonna do with the rest of the bottle
