goodnight/good morning to everyone, except this bitch
So, I have a tendency to get emotional over sentient magical items in fiction, so prepare yourselves for me pouring out my heart over Book. Ahem!
Can we just talk about how much Book loved the Sandersons?!?! Like, he went to all the trouble of teaching Gilbert how to create a new black flame candle so that he could bring his witches back. Then, when they return, the first thing the decide to do is the very spell that would spell doom for Mary and Sarah. Book tries to stop them, even when Winnie zaps him, and flips to the warning in a desperate attempt to make them reconsider.
He even changes loyalties in order to try and stop the spell from happening! And then, when Winnie begs for help, he hesitates because he doesn’t want to lose her too, but he still gives the spell that will allow her to reunite with her sisters. And then he SHEDS A TEAR as the last Sanderson fades to dust!
Like, I know that the Sandersons are evil witches who kill children. I know that Book is a device made by the devil and bound with human skin. But I’m still feeling a lot of emotions right now!
Cobweb the cat minding his own business while watching Gilbert come up with a plan to bring back the Sanderson Sisters and then get cursed for his efforts
Is it just me or does it seem like Hocus Pocus 2 was aimed at very specific sort of fan?
Just finished Hocus Pocus 2 and all I can say is that I miss Thackeray Binx.
absolutely loved hocus pocus 2 but i gotta say i thought it was kinda hilarious that the three teenage girls adopted book like it was a dog and not a living tome of evil magic bound in flayed human skin
I watched Hocus Pocus 2 last night and I’m surprised I haven’t seen anyone mention how the three new girls seem to mirror the Sanderson sisters.
Becca - main girl who wears a green hoodie and when she has her hair up it’s reminiscent of Winnie’s hairstyle.
Izzy - wears a dark red cardigan (duster?) and has her hair up in a half ponytail that at times looked similar to Mary’s hair.
Cassie - hair down like Sarah and wears a purpley tie-dye shirt.
It makes sense considering the three girls are shown to be the “new” coven.

Book:
was hocus pocus 2 a good movie? no. was it enjoyable? yes. did it make sense? no. did they retcon a lot? yes. was it fun for the whole family? yes. was it cringe at times? yes. did the actors look like they had fun? yes. is it better than the first film? no. was it a messy plot? yes. did it have a lot of product placement? god yes. did bette, sarah and kathy look amazing? yes. did it make me confront my own mortality and the passage of time by saying the events of the first film happened 29 years ago? also yes. all and all, a good tv movie.
Listen, I am the first to say stop giving villains tragic back stories and just let them be villains because it's fun, but I do not know what movie you were watching if you're complaining that the new hocus pocus sequel did that. The whole concept is that Gilbert brought the Sanderson sisters back thinking they were just misunderstood for their time and very quickly learned he was mistaken. Just because Winifred loves her sisters doesn't mean she wasn't ready to torture a teenager and slaughter a town. It's depth, not redemption.
Thackery Binx in heaven watching how Gilbert made another black candle and had a whole plan for a virgin to light it
“Where is thy coven?” “Long gone I’m afraid”
Her pain showing through her eyes and every muscle and microexpression on her face. This is simply a out of the world acting masterclass by the phenomenal Hannah Waddingham because she had one scene, little time, not many lines and yet she stole she whole show. All she had, she put it in this performance and it shows, loud and clear. The Mother Witch has a story, possibly a tragic one, and Hannah gave us the privilege of a glimpse of that with just so so so little. She’s incredible and I hope Hocus Pocus gives her another, bigger chance. She deserves it and she definitely won’t disappoint. Just look at how much she’s done with so little screen time. I am in awe and I love and support her with my whole heart and in this case, soul 💜🔮

one of my favourite things about loid and yor’s relationship is the way they’re both able to communicate so well to one another.
when loid was doubting his ability to be a good parent, yor was right there to tell him that he should be more confident with himself— to remind him that anya scored them the perfect 100 points and he was being a wonderful father to her. the moment loid started doubting, yor knew exactly what to say.
and when yor apologies for butting in, how it’s not her place to tell him what to do. loid tells her no, that this is her place, this isn’t just someone else’s family, it’s hers, it’s their family. and loid needs her to be everything that he is lacking, he relies on yor to be everything that he isn’t.
neither of them got the chance to grow up in normal typical household with paternal figures to look up to due to their hardships growing up and their lines of work but they’re being the perfect parents to anya and partners to one another without realising it. they’re not your average family but it’s theirs and that’s all the matters.
anyways—loid and yor’s words of affirmation for each other may seem like such a little thing but you can really tell it brings them both a lot of comfort and reassurance knowing they’re doing just fine as they are and i just adore that. communication is very important in a relationship whether or not it’s fake or real and they have that down and done well.
Anya's suckerpunch gives me the most Kirby vibes from a non-Kirby entity I have every seen
Kind of obsessed with how Loid and Yor accidentally con themselves into being the perfect parents. Neither of them grew up with stable parental figures, and both of them probably consider normal family life as out of reach for them due to their jobs. But they also are both convinced that the other one IS normal and knows what normal family life is.
So you have this adorable dynamic where Loid constantly seeks Yor’s advice and approval that he’s doing ok as a dad, because surely if civilian mom thinks so, he can’t be ruining the mission. And Yor is constantly seeking Loid’s advice and approval that she’s doing ok as a mom, because this guy has had a “real” wife and everything, she must be doing something right if he’s keeping her around. Neither of them know what the hell they’re doing, but out of pure respect and love for each other, AS CIVILIANS, they actually end up giving really good advice and supporting each other so well, and accidentally forge a true family unit. It’s just…it’s so cute yall
