"Mineralism"
i coined this by accident/as a joke on a music website. i now use it as a vague term to describe a lot of music that is coming out in a specific sphere these days. Concentrated in Kansas City, New York, Berlin, and adjacent to the labels:
west mineral - motion ward - 3 x l - c minus (dead)
I love it truly. Here are some just-as-unhelpful words on it from me and a few others.
primordial dub / protozoan synthesis amniotic electronic / mineral ambient - -
.
The quasi-ambient and ambient-adjacent sounds of artists clustered around West Mineral Ltd., 3XL (Experiences Ltd.), and Motion Ward.
Mineral ambient is characterized by looping or loop-like compositions, evocative and texture-rich sound design, and often dub-influenced bass. [~Meal_Drift] ---
from the pseudonyms, track titles, cover art, and the sound of the music itself, it oozes ambiguity. nobody knows what the fuck is really going on with these tunes, they’re ambient, but there’s too much going on for it to be just ambient, there’s a lot of very unique sound staging, there’s strange crossovers, a lot of it does resemble ambient dub and i’m sure it’s all very basic channel inspired but at the same time it’s more than ambient dub, it’s more vague, it’s not strictly aquatic or aerial, the setting is never immediate. it’s very strange, it’s truly alien music in the sense that it creates these stages for a place that doesn’t actually exist yet, very curious.
