It was the most peaceful sleep Sinbad experienced in weeks… which was terribly ironic, considering how he had a child assassin pressed against his side. Truth be told, he expected to wake up an aching, bloody mess but the other remained strangely compliant throughout the night. If Sinbad didn’t know any better, he would say the child was exhausted beyond belief.

Alas, it was indeed a new day and work was waiting.

The innovator got out of bed as gently and quietly as he could before checking the door locks. Satisfied, he then heads to the bathroom for a quick shower.

Something was wrong. So utterly and terribly wrong. What Ja'far intended to last only a short moment turned into minutes and eventually hours. The embrace was oddly calming, warm, and somehow not even the moist of his breath and wet cheeks against the chest of the object of his assassination mission bothered Ja'far for once. There was a heartbeat and pulse, even, strong and grounding, soft breathes, the warmth of another human, a faint smell that he could describe only as "more" than affliction, death and decay. Stronger than any poison he ever tasted before, this mix paralyzed the assassin's mind and body, rendered him dazed and finally forced him to sleep.

In the back of Ja'far's head a part stayed awake through all of the night, as always. Weakly this part called out to use this chance, to just slip out of the embrace and get done with the task, but the boy's body simply didn't listen and didn't move, regardless of how much Ja'far wanted and tried to.

When he finally did startle up, it was after noticing something, or rather someone, moving around him. However, as the child sat straight like a stick in the bed, he was all alone. There was no more warmth, no pulse lulling the beast, no feathery breathes ghosting over his cheek and neck and no faint smell. He'd delayed everything too long. What should have been only a few moments, were hours.

Ja'far's expression turned into a heavy scowl and he jumped up. Where had Sinbad put his darts again …? The cabinet that he saw last night swallowing up this part of the young assassin's body was locked. He felt naked without them. Breaking the cabinet right then would be too loud though; he better did the task without them and got them once Sinbad's head on the ground tinted the carpet crimson.

What could he use, though … The room was big, bigger than Ja'far noticed last night, and Sinbad was obviously too full of himself. Swiftly Ja'far picked up a paper knife from the desk, secured it in his waistband and pushed a chair to stand beside the only door from behind which he heard sounds. Holding a heavy vase he waited there, ready to smash it against the head of the first person coming through.

“Looks like you lost your voice, chief. You shouldn’t strain yourself. If it isn’t too much, just nod or shake on your head, alright?” Letting out a small sigh he filled the glass with water, moving it towards his lips, not letting go of the glass even though Ja’far too held onto it. If he spilled onto himself, he would have to change clothes. There was no way he was going to sleep with wet clothes, or in a wet bed !!

It worried him senseless that the young boy seemed so weak, as if the sickness were eating him away. Not many recovered from illness, they didn’t live in the best conditions there. There were times when one could go days without eating, sleeping or filling the needs, neither did they have any medicines against illnesses. Wouldn’t that mean…? Gasping he grabbed Ja’far into a tight grip: “Chief!” He was not going to die, no? “Chief, can you hear me?”

It was clear he needed some medicine, if he could only get his hands on some, then perhaps he could save him. But right now Vittel didn’t dare to leave his side. “Just try stay with us for a little longer, I will find a way to help you. I promise.” He swallowed hard at the last part.

"Can't," Ja'far rasped in reply to the proposal of only nodding and shaking his head. Moving made him dizzy and he rather dealt with the pain of speaking a few words than losing orientation like that.

Painful was drinking, too. Still the boy hastily drank as much as he could right now. He only had time for one deep breath after putting the vase down with Vittel's help, when his shoulders were already grasped. Ja'far startled, stared up bewildered at Vittel, frowned and blinked slowly, torn between anger for being grabbed so suddenly with such cold hands and confusion. What did he mean by staying longer? And then comprehension and fear set in again.

He whimpered and curled slowly up, shifted the slightest bit closer. "I don't wanna die," he rasped, hiccupped and whimpered even louder with the pain."

Damn, she dodged! Feigning another attack Ja’far jumps and throws the rope of his darts around her to capture her at least.

Someone else? Someone with the same face, as she was that close tho him? “... What’s their name?” The assassin had to get rid of this imposter. Too dangerous.

Sinbad’s eyes bore into the child’s own, his hold unfaltering as he tried to get his point across.

“There is no future for a failed assassin… but if that’s the case, then you should let that part of you perish here. Die and be reborn. I can give you new life, a new purpose. No more killing for the sake of survival. You can be anyone you want to be, do anything you want to do.”

The violet-haired man’s touch turns unexpectedly gentle as he pulls the younger into his arms, keeping him in a hug.

“… It’s lonely trying to make it out there on your own. And if you can’t live for your sake then live for mine.”

“Please keep me company for at least a short while.”

Just what the fuck was wrong with this man? Whether it was courageous or not, Ja'far didn't care. It was as if they were holding each their conversations on their own and not with each other. Well, Ja'far had to admit that he didn't really understand what Sinbad said, either. The only that made its way to the child's consciousness was no more killing for the sake of survival. With what Sinbad had said before then he'd be allowed to live as long as he just stopped killing? Oh, it was tempting, but the assassin wasn't sure whether he was able to do it in the end.

Ja'far had just called Sinbad a pedo and there he was already pulled into his arms and asked to live for him. That was just- Of course the child struggled at first, but the embrace was also warm and almost tender. He shuddered hard when his limbs and body were warmed up by another human, and gasped as he couldn't help that his muscles relaxed.

Before Ja'far even really noticed what happened, tears streamed down his cheeks and he leaned into the embrace. Maybe only for a short while, like Sinbad said. Maybe for just a short while he could live just like that.

Sinbad eased his intense gaze, a small pout tugging at his lips as his entire demeanor shifted.

“Goodness, you’d think I promised to hold you by your ankles everyday for the rest of your life. Calm yourself, child. I mean you no harm.”

To prove his words, the innovator slowly eases off the assassin albeit he keeps those wrists in a firm grip. He might be foolish enough to give the other a second chance but he wasn’t so far gone to think that he won’t be pounced on at the slightest provocation. Despite his inexperience, this child was definitely sent by someone to end his life. And although succumbing to the attempt would be one large thorn removed from his side, Sinbad decided that he was not to die here at this moment.

Besides, he now found something… someone to distract his mind from work.

“Now then, I suppose we can start laying down some ground rules if you’re staying here. Rule one - no killing anyone. That includes me, of course. And if possible, please don’t pull out those knives when we’re in public. I don’t think people are daft enough to think they’re toys especially when you hold them with such a malicious look on your face.”

There were more faces to this man than Ja'far had guessed so far. He didn't even know if there was not maybe even more and which of them were true and which only an act of the moment. There was the young adventurer from the books, arrogant but also cheerful and having a bright view into the world. Then the man who pushed through during the last years the strongest and fastest revolution in history. While he was here with the child in this room, he also showed a cruel side that promised despair, and now even how much value he apparently really held to lives of people such as Ja'far. Well, they said that power and money changed people's views.

Ja'far had made a mistake to accept this job, but now it was already too late. As soon as his body was allowed to move, he rolled to the side and pushed up to sit on his knees as far away as possible and face Sinbad, his arms twisted in the hold. "Don't fucking kid with me!" he spat out, "Are you deaf or what? Mentally deficient?! I said I don't wanna stay here! Not with a disgusting pedo who tackles me to the bed 'n talks bullshit 'bout things between livin' 'n dyin' and-! That is meaning harm you brainless idiot! I don't fuckin' care 'bout not killing anyone! I'd rather kill myself than just accept my freedom and life being stolen like that by a cunt as you!"
