The thing about knitting is itâs much harder to fear the existential futility of all your actions while youâre doing it.
Like ok, sure, sometimes itâs hard to believe youâve made any positive impact on the world. But itâs pretty easy to believe youâve made a sock. Look at it. There it is. Put it on, now your footâs warm.
Checkmate, nihilism.
This is a powerful positive message..
For everyoneâs information:
The plan for the 17th, when the adult content ban comes in, is to protest.
To do that, we are making as much noise either side of the 17th as possible, and using the site as normal.
On the 17th, dead silence.
People are saying log off but what they really mean is donât open the site or the app.
But, on the 17th make as much noise as possible on every other platform. Tweet about it and post on facebook and instagram and everywhere else.
What this does is causes a massive dip in ad revenue for one single day. That does not make staff think âoh everyoneâs gone letâs shut down.â What it actually makes them think is âoh shit people arenât happy and if people donât keep using our site weâre out of money and out of jobs.â
A boycott reminds a company that the users (consumers) have the power to make their site (business) worthless with one single coordinated decision.
If you want to join in, hereâs what to do:
Do:
Close all open instances of the app and site on all your devices before the 17th
Make posts before and after the 17th on tumblr and other platforms, talking about why this ban is bad
Make posts on other sites during the 17th. Flood the official tumblr staff twitter and facebook with your anger and your opinion
Come back on the 18th and check in
Donât:
Delete the app from your phone (this doesnât affect their revenue and since itâs off the store at the moment itâll be hard to get back)
Delete your account. I mean you can if you want to, but if you keep your account and donât use it youâre saying to staff that thereâs still time to save it. If you delete itâs hard work to come back.
Open the app or website (including specific blogs)
Make any posts (turn down/off your queue and make sure nothing is scheduled)
Go quiet elsewhere. Make it clear that this is just about tumblr, not a mass move away from all social media.
Remember: the execs donât care about anything but money. Shutting down the site means thereâs $0 further income from it. Thatâs their last possible course of action. If we make it clear weâre not happy, theyâll have to do something or we can do more and more until it becomes too expensive.
Protests take commitment. Theyâre a defiant action against a business that is doing something wrong. They will try to scare you into not participating, because theyâre scared. We hold all the power here, sometimes the execs just need to be reminded of that.

a fools guide to not wanting to die anymore
by me, a fool who doesnt wanna die anymoreÂ
never make a suicide joke again. yes this includes âi wanna dieâ as a figure of speech. swear off of it. actually make an effort to change how you think about things.
find something to compliment someone for at least 4 times a day. notice the little things about the world that make you happy, and use that to make other people happy.
talk to people. initiate conversation as often as you possibly can. keep your mind busy and you wont have to worry anymore
picture the bad intrusive thoughts in youe head as an edgy 13 year old and tell them to go be emo somewhere else
if someone makes you feel bad most of the time, stop talking to them. making yourself hang out with people who drain you is self harm. stop it.

Thatâs some pretty good advice. I donât know whatâs left of my humor after âguess Iâll just dieâ jokes but itâs worth a shot.
Personally i went from âguess Iâll dieâ jokes to âIF I HAVE TO BE HERE FOR 5 MORE MINUTES I PROMISE YOU I WILL BUY JUST, AN ARRAY OF CLOTHES.â and other wild hyperbolic stuff. Just replace the death part with something ridiculous and off topic. Its very entertaining
This also works with calling myself things like stupid, worthless, trash, etc. Even if you do this jokingly to yourself, your brain still believes it, and keeps up the cycle. Seriously, I found that when I stopped saying these things about myself, even jokingly, it made a massive difference.
Hereâs a tip I picked up from a friend thatâs helped me a lot â replace self deprecating jokes with ironically self aggrandizing jokes
Like every time I trip and fall, instead of saying âlâm just a disaster humanâ I say âIâm the epitome of grace and beautyâ
Or like, when I draw a picture Iâm not 100% happy with, instead of saying âmy art is trashâ I say something like âyou know I think itâs time we replaced the Mona Lisaâ
When you do that you get to make a joke, but youâre ALSO getting practice building yourself up, yâknow?
And eventually it becomes a reflex and you get so used to it that you can say nice stuff about yourself even when you ARENâT joking
kirby has a very special message for you!

Drag me if you want but I feel like a major problem with liberal/Western gender ideology is that itâs so focused on aesthetics. Like âLook at me, Iâm defying gender norms by wearing a dress/suit/makeup/whatever.â Like okay but what about defying gender norms via the breakdown of behaviour? What about acknowledging things like male entitlement, aggression, perceived weakness and submissiveness, the expectation of women to perform emotional labour etc. If we donât actively work to break down oppressive and dangerous gender stereotypes, what is the point? Defying gender norms and identities canât just be limited to clothing, hair, and makeup
