for digital artists, what do you primarily draw on

pen tablet (you are not drawing directly on a screen)

screen tablet (you draw directly on the screen. this includes ipads and phones)

I used to use a pen tablet but now I use a screen tablet

I feel like there’s been a BIG shift in usage of pen tablets to screen tablets in the past 5 years. Pen tablets were the norm for both beginning and professional artists for a very very long time, but now it seems like if you’ve started drawing digitally within the past 5-8 years you’re way more likely to have a screen tablet.

Anyway, here's the prologue if anyone's interested (its 441 words):

All of Nessa's problems could be traced back to her great grandfather King Nolan Hargrove III. His penchant for frivolous things had incenvtivised the mistreatment of his people. Taxes and apathy had put the leuti nation of Nortland into poverty and disrepair. Outside castle walls, citizens died penniless in the streets. Even those with something to offer the royal family had been paid far under the agreed upon price. Any unhappy few were executed for ungratefulness.

That was, until is son, Nolan IV, had been ambushed on an excursion across the province and was rescued by a group of passing villagers. With his means of travel gone, he was forced to face the reality that the people had been living with. A two month trip became a five year enlightenment expedition. He lived side by side with the people that his father had disregarded as unworthy of respect. He was welcomed into their homes. He ate at their tables. He slept under their roofs. He saw and lived their struggles. He saw what his father's greed had done to the rest of the country. To his friends. In the end, he made his way home and told his father what he had seen.

But Nolan III was stuck in his ways, and so Nolan IV rallied the people against his father. When all was said and done, Nolan IV assumed the throne and made a promise that he would put the people first.

Plans were drawn. Money was distributed and towns were rebuilt. The castle, in all of its opulence, was gutted and transformed into the capital building. It's doors were opened to all and what little money was left over went into the construction of a modest family home for King Nolan IV and his new wife, Elena, a common woman that he had met on his five year journey. To ensure no other monarch after him would fall into the same pit of greed, he ruled that all his predecessors would take the same journey he had before they could assume the crown.

Not all was well, however. The scars were set deep into the countrysides. Scars that mere funds could not fix.

Laverne, the human country to the south, had increased military operations in the borderlands. Tensions began to rise as Nolan IV's son, Edmund assumed the throne. Fearing an invasion, King Edmund focused on building the Nortland military. The few leuti who ventured into Laverne were met with hostility. Some who ventured too far never returned home.

By the time King Edmund decided to pass on the throne, the two countries were on the verge of war.
