bro i LOVE indigenous fusion music i love it when indigenous people take traditional practices and language and apply them in new cool ways i love the slow decay and decolonisation of the modern music industry
I WILL !!! I WILL DO THAT
some of my favourite indigenous artists, in no particular order:
Inuit artists:
the jerry cans (esp their album Inuusiq)
beatrice deer
twin flames
MÄori artists:
jordyn with a why
Indigenous australian artists:
tilly tjala thomas (i particularly love ngai yurlku nhiina)
kardajala kirridarra (srlsly check out ngajabu (Grandmother's Song))
i've also heard good things abt Baker Boy, but i haven't checked out his stuff yet
Another one for Inuit artists is Piqsiq! Two sisters whoāve been doing traditional throat singing since they were kids. They make some really gorgeous, eerie, atmospheric stuff. Highly recommend watching this video of them performing live a cappella using a looping machine, because they might be the coolest people on the planet actually
(Jo March nearly in tears voice) women,,,,
For anyone into North Asian and Central Asian folk music, there's this incredible Siberian folk-pop band called Otyken! The group is mostly women and they're from multiple indigenous groups in Siberia, with songs being sung in their range of different languages. They're so much fun and their music videos are amazing!
i'll go ahead and recommend The Halluci Nation (formerly known as A Tribe Called Red), an EDM group from First Nations Ontario that do really cool fusions of First Nations music with dubstep, moombahton, and hip hop.
I really really really appreciate people who share videos on posts like these, because almost without a doubt every time I love the music but Iāve never got the spoons to click on links and look through a bunch of music or worse google the artist I always end up too overwhelmed to start and I hate that
Haven't seen Belle Sisoski here yet so here we go: she's the current Artist of Year for BURO impact Awards. She's from Malaysia and knows how to play an insane amount of ethnic instruments and mixes them with her own voice. She does covers and her own songs, mixes ethnic instruments with Techno and shows the process. And she's also a live DJ at 19!
And one of her own:
Oh and of course there's also the HU and Bloodywood for people who like more rock and metal mixed in:
1876 is a Pow Wow punk rock band from Portland, Oregon
Supaman, an ApsƔalooke rapper who's really popular in Montana music circles. He samples and loops traditional music and performs in full regalia!
https://youtu.be/Yjd8dKZbQJc?si=hr7nluJlbCYS6Rzv
King Stingray with a sound self-described as "YolÅu surf rock", the band perform songs with lyrics in both English and YolÅu Matha.
Finally settled on an outfit and color pallet I like for her. yay!
That sonic post got me thinking a lot, because im glad im not the only who notices people being fine with shadow or knuckles being Black (especially darker skinned) but sonic's blackness is either denied or he is always explicitly light skin. Now, there's nothing wrong with sonic being light skinned, the problem is a lot of people ONLY ever draw sonic light skinned whereas shadow and knuckles are more often than not, dark-skinned, i rarely ever see sonic depicted with a deeper skin tone.
Now its not just sonic fans (primarily nonblack ones) i see this with, its really common in the mlp community too, specifically with how a lot of people defult rarity to white, what beacuse she's prissy, high class and has a white color scheme? Its always been werid to me. It happens with Celestia and Luna too, Luna always being depicted as darker skinned while Celestia is always fairer skinned.
People are doing this with deltarune characters too in a sense "Noelle and birdly cant be black beacuse of x reason!"
Its really werid and racist and idk if some of yall know how yall sound but, newsflash, black people are people, therefore diverse in looks and personality among other things. Crazy i know right? Who would have thought..
oh yeah yeah the kees YAY the kees
been stewing on an analytical approach to fiction which I call "is this book afraid of me?" and in order to answer this question you determine how hard the book is trying to make sure you don't come after the writer on twitter
the fucked-up part is that I specifically notice this in like, BIPOC or queer romances because their authors a) are more likely to be harassed online b) tend to care about writing inclusive and intersectional books more, both of which are totally valid reasons, but unfortunately a book that is scared to be misunderstood is also scared to challenge the reader or allow for too much nuance or grey areas or character flaws and I am sorry to say that it often makes for less compelling stories because it means shying away from ambiguities and complexities in an effort to reassure me, the reader, that everyone here is a Good Person engaging in Healthy Behaviours and Relationships
swinging at the bees nest here but a criticism of trans women i've never really understood is that they just "take the idea of womanhood and co opt it and run with it based on their own whims." like ummm yeah? that's kinda what i did too. i wasn't handed some objective universal definition of womanhood that i faithfully carried out at every turn with no objection. i built my own understanding of what being a woman meant based on the women around me and the women i admire and the things that felt authentic to me and the things i rejected or embraced. like we all inherit ideas about womanhood and then negotiate with them. otherwise we'd all genuinely think the only "real women" left were those fucking trad wives
hi! i'm a disabled, indigenous trans woman who's been homeless for years. my polycule and i are in pretty desperate need for money as soon as we can get it.
there are four of us total, two of whom only became homeless last month. since then we've been living in an extended stay hotel and trying to get through all of the bureaucracy we need to in order to get things like ssi and food stamps. we've run out of money to stay in the hotel and need some help to keep paying for it.
we're living in the american southwest, and a heatwave is currently hitting our area. several of us have problems with body temperature regulation, and being out in 40°c/100°f+ weather will be very detrimental to our health, if not potentially deadly. the hotel is about $330 for a week, which is what i'm asking for here.
if you can, please, please help. i'm applying for work and trying to find other ways of making money in the meantime, but currently we don't have any means of keeping ourselves in air conditioning. thank you for reading and reblogging this post

July 22, 2026 - People around the USA are taking down Flock AI surveillance cameras. [video]
Find license plate readers (LPRs) near you.
direct action works!!
physically interfering with the cameras is highly effective but obviously it's not a type of activism that's accessible to everyone ā so if like me you think warrentless surveillance is never ever ever a reasonable thing for a government to do, but you're also like me and can't personally climb camera poles to dismantle that shit:
check out the August 16-22 week of action!
Mass surveillance doesn't equal safety. Join the movement to dismantle automated license plate readers in our communities.
big and small cities all over the US (and one so far in Canada!) are holding events like education sessions, marches, and public lobbying meetings with the local governments and police departments that decide whether to spend taxpayer money on warrantless surveillance. maybe my city and yours can join the nearly 100 places that have already rejected or ended contracts for mass privacy violation cameras.
This is a reminder for those who handmake Christmas presents that now is not too early to start. It may in fact be a good time to start if you have a lot to make/your craft takes a long time. You should maybe start it now, whether that's brainstorming or actually doing the crafts!

What would you do if you were a queer Black teen girl in the 2010s midwest that suddenly became a witch after reading from an ancient tome?
Now you've got to fight monsters , face off against an evil that's after you ... and also two vampires have feelings for you ( and they dig each other a bit too) . Check out this Black Queer YA Coming of age Magical Girl Witch in the midwest story! The Three Tomes. Live on Kickstarter Card Captor Sakura and Sailor Moon x Twilight and The Vampire Diaries ( minus the racism).
Too often in media, Black women and femmes are seen as disposable. They're stepping stones on the path to the " true relationship". They're the side best friend, they're killed off for the narrative.. Too often in media Black people period are questioned for why they're in fantasy, or supernatural stories. " Why is a mermaid Black?" " Why is that dwarf Black?" " Why is that knight Black?" There's rampant biphobia and questioning of people's queer idenity as nonbinary or fear of being open about your Black queerness period... Too often in media our stories as Black people are only accepted if it centers our pain. Very rarely are we given opportunity in mainstream media to have our whimsical and fun coming of age stories without black trauma at it's core. Our history is part of us, but we can have our " Juno's " , our " Twilights" , our " Hunger Games" ...etc.. too. We are able to be and should be present in all genres and tell all kinds of stories. The Three Tomes aims to dismantle all of this. It's a Queer YA coming of age story about Tammy Harris, age 17. She lives in the Chicago Suburbs and is having her own adventure and dealing with grief and change through the magical lens of witches and vampires. The story centers on her, and a host of queer black and brown characters taking the lead. A Lesbian Witch, A gay Vampire priest, a gay Vampire villian, two bi, and pan vampire boys ( tammy's love interests) and Tammy's best friend who is nonbinary and black/indian mixed. Character Bios here Black people can be whimsical, magical and we deserve to be in fantasy stories.
Support The Three Tomes on Kickstarter as we push towards our stretch goals for full animation of scenes and episode 3. To check out episode one and learn more about the world of The Three Tomes. Check out THE MASTER POST here.
