it’s just so insane how Jesse breaking bad is simultaneously a student abused by a teacher/a child abused by a parent/a wife abused by her husband. Like he is all of these things and also none of them. Walt accidentally calls his actual son by Jesse’s name while high. Walt constantly calls Jesse ‘son’ but only when he’s trying to patronize him or when he wants something. Then, on the other hand, Walt tries to shame his wife for her rejection of him by showing off how loyal Jesse is, comparing them explicitly, and when Skyler and Jesse have their final scene together they recognize very sadly that they are The Same. Then there’s also that scene where Jesse is telling Walt about the little kid who’s selling drugs and he says something along the lines “get ‘em while they’re young and they’re yours forever” which in the context of his own relationship with Walt, who he met initially while a young student, is super revealing. Coincidentally that’s the same episode where Mike recounts that story about a man who beat his wife to Walt. It’s just a lot!!!!!!!!
AND ANOTHER THING. Re: mikes story about the man who beat his wife…he concludes that the moral of story is that one shouldn’t take half measures - if Mike had killed the man instead of just threatening him, the man’s wife wouldn’t have died. It’s funny that When he told the story he was talking about getting rid of Jesse which Walt was refusing to do, because as the show goes on it’s clear that ACTUALLY Mike has once again found himself in a similar situation, where he makes the same exact mistake. He knows the relationship is abusive and that Walt won’t let Jesse go, but he takes a half-measure - tying Walt to a radiator when he probably should have just killed him instead for both Jesse’s sake and his own
