*✧ min areum.
the court was stuffy, the air thick with gossip of the deceased institute leader. areum wore a bored expression as the staff chattered with her, or rather around her, occasionally asking her for her opinion on the matter. she only answered with soft hums and shakes of her head. did she have to have an opinion? a leader was dead and a war was inevitable. her opinion didn’t matter. “pardon me,” she offered the staffers a tight smile. “i believe i have work to do.” it wasn’t a lie; she did have work to attend to. was she going to, though? obviously not.
the ravenette found herself just outside of the court, at one of her favorite parks. the park was always beautiful at the time of night, the moonlight shone directly onto the water and the sounds of frogs chirping followed by the occasional car passing echoed throughout the way. and it was peaceful. perhaps too peaceful, she thought. areum stopped at a patch of flowers, narrowing her eyes at the ones that had been picked and scattered. by children, she assumed. she leaned down with arched knees and inspected the scene. there was really no saving them, but perhaps she could create a flower crown? she gathered all of the stray flowers, threading the stems carefully together. “isn’t it all so silly?” she smiled, shooting a glance towards the other. she had noticed their presence a while ago. “this war, i mean.” areum paused, pushing herself up as she continued twisting the flowers between her forefinger. “do you think the flora start wars with each other? roses versus chrysanthemums, perhaps?”
sora had been keeping areum company for the last twenty minutes and one thing that stood out from the t i m e spent there is the fact that she’d never understand her love towards flowers. it wasn’t as if she felt averseness towards them but their SHORT life spans reminded her of the mundanes. ❛ such ephemeral beauty should only be stared from afar. ❜ she mumbled to herself loud enough for the other party to hear. ❛ or suffer the same fate as these flowers. trampled all over and left to wither in the wild. ❜
a sigh escaped from her rosy lips when she saw areum gather the f l o w e r s relentlessly. shaking her head she was about to utter a complain, but in the end opted not to. she knew better than to tell someone how to spend their time. ❛ i wouldn’t use the word silly ... maybe pointless. but yes i do think so. ❜ sora knew the current position areum had in the seelie high court yet she didn’t pay much attention to the connotation behind her words. ❛ i don’t know. never thought of it that way. ❜ she replied sincerely. leaning down she picked up one the scattered flowers, it’s beauty long lost. pinching it between her fingers she destroyed what little was left of it. ❛ but what i do know is that such war would be quick to end. ❜ she said implying to how easy it was to kill a flower.

a friendly smile formed on his face when he heard her familiar voice, his head quickly snapping up to look in the direction of the sound. he couldn’t see her but he was accustomed to her so much that her voice could make him feel better whenever she wanted. “the nephilim were targeted, that means we will be next,” he muttered, leaning back on the bench and tipping his head up so he was looking up. he knew that quite a few downworlders had already been targeted, he expected the weaker downworlders to be picked off first. but now that the murderer had decided to kill one of the most influential people in seoul, none of them were safe - that much he knew.
seung shuffled a little bit away, allowing her some room to sit down next to him if she wanted to. “it would do you well to be afraid to, i don’t want anything to happen to you.” seung was usually closed off when it came to his feelings, he cared a lot about people but he didn’t express it much. he was simply someone you could talk to and get along with, there was no need for anything else to be said. “i don’t think i could take it if something happened to one of my friends, even if you are much stronger than me.”
❛ details. ❜ she waved her hand at the air dismissing the importance of the subject. ❛ i mean sure the one who died this time was the former head of the institute but ? so what ? ❜ she asked stiffling a y a w n. albeit the dread and dismay this event had evoqued she’d managed to remain calm. she wasn’t sure if it was due to the importance of the matter being unable to sink in or if she frankly didn’t care. she was aware that the weaker downworlders were being prayed on as of late, but for now she didn’t get the feeling of impending doom that seemed to had taken over m a n y of her peers. she wasn’t even sure if she’d get involved in the scuffle unless, of course, they’d do something that left her no choice but to join the fight. if someone DARED to mess with her loved ones there would be hell to pay. ❛ if they are going after the infuential people then i’d say we are s a f e. for now at least. ❜ she said leaning against the benchs. ❛ though the same can’t be said for our high warlock. now they better be watching their back. ❜
looking at the sky she smiled a little hearing the concern that clouded his words. she knew she could take care of herself, or at least she thought so, but it was nice to know someone would mourn her if she’d d i e d. ❛ i don’t want anything to happen to you either. i won’t let anything happen to you. ❜ she amended quickly. it wasn’t like her to pronounce such words but once in a while she felt like it wouldn’t be too bad to let others know she had feelings. or something along those lines.

sowon knew she was forgetful, considered that to even be a cute personality trait of hers, but this was a little too much. the young vamping had gone off to a cafe early in the morning when the sun was still down. she couldn’t stomach much more than flavored water, but she just liked being able to be out with other people. she hadn’t kept track of the time, and by the time she realized hours had passed the rising sun was already burning her arm. now she was stuck. two years of being a vampire and she still hadn’t learned that the safest method was to set an alarm to warn her about the sun. she should have known better than to just trust her own inner clock to warn her. she had taken up a chair in the corner of the shop where light couldn’t touch, and was holding a cup of ice against her arm as subtly as possible. hearing someone nearby her head shot up, before offering someone a big grin. “is this your regular seat or something?” she paused, rubbing her hand behind her neck with an awkward grin. “sorry i can’t really find a new seat right now. we can totally share the seat if you want though.”
turning the page of her book, sora sighed content at the atmosphere the cafe provided her. it was a recluse location and not many knew of its existance — a fact she loved to delight in. it was liberating to be on her own. some people needed the company of other, craved it even, but not her. she felt completly apathetic towards the others. except for a select few she couldn’t be bothered to raise a finger for the rest. she had a whimsical air to her, acting only according to her caprice. sometimes on a w h i m she’d help someone but other times she’d step on them and keep walking.
although she’d come to the cafe to enjoy one of the many masterpieces by albert camus, something at the corner of her eye caught her attention. carefully closing her first edition, she tucked it inside of her purse and laughed. ❛ vampires. ❜ she thought rolling her eyes. it was obvious that this one had just been recently turned otherwise they wouldn’t have been caught in such predicament. but then again they could just be scatter brained. either way it’d been long since a true laugh had escaped her lips. she didn’t mean to catch their attention for they’d had no plans on engaging with them but a l a s things didn’t work out as planned. ignoring her first question she stood up and made way towards the dark corner of the cafe and sat in front of her. ❛ how’s the burn holding up ? ❜ she asked bemused.

the warmth of the coffee cup spread from his fingers and up his arms. he didn’t know when he’d started to appreciate the taste of coffee, it probably had to be when he entered seoul all those many years ago. he’d spent quite a while wandering around china and thailand where he’d been exposed to all kinds of tea; coffee was much better in his opinion. with a small sigh, the warlock placed his coffee cup slowly to his lips and gulped down the bitter liquid. things were surprisingly quiet today, peaceful even, but he knew not to trust the quietness. what was it that people in this generation said? oh yeah, the quiet before the storm. the recent deaths had left everyone shaken; seung had created a few more protection spells around his apartment to prevent anyone sneaking up on him and discarding his body in a dark alleyway or in the river - his death would be much more epid than that. plus, no one wanted to kill a blind guy.
“i’m perfectly more than capable of keeping myself safe,” he muttered to himself, once again reminding himself that he was not at a disadvantage compared to the other warlocks. the fingers around the coffee cup tightened as he pushed himself out of the dark thoughts that threatened him whenever he had a moment alone and instead, he sat back against the bench and allowed the cool, seoul breeze to run through his mop of black hair.
the recent conflicts had done little to stir her up. albeit she knew that danger lurked in every corner, sora couldn’t care less. that’s the thing about being immortal, as time goes by you become more n u m b to certain events. this being one of them. sora prided herself on being more powerful than the average warlock so she didn’t feel the need to fear the killer. there was no point in cowering in the dark, dreading the time for death to come. ❛ that’s what the weak ones do. ❜ she muttered under her breath disdain dripping off her every word. it wasn’t the f i r s t time someone had been murdered — it just happened that this time the institute’s leader had perish. people would get over it ... eventually.
sighing she continued to walk around when suddenly she spotted a familiar silhouette. had it been anyone else she’d just turned around and walk away but it was him. the number of people sora considered a friend could be counted with one hand and although she didn’t wanna admit it, from time to time, it was nice to have some company. ❛ oh i don’t doubt that ❜ she said taking a seat next to him. ❛ but please don’t tell me you’re worried. ❜ she said pinching the bridge of her nose.
